I guess I’m just weirdly in the minority of “regular posters” here that legitimately enjoy fanedits of the prequels. Octoroxs edits of the first two and Hals ROTS, while not the artistic masterpieces of ANH and ESB, are to me very enjoyable popcorn flicks. They are definitely prequels, so the ot is where the real magic is, but I can at least have fun and enjoy the ride getting to where the real magic is.

“This is where the fun begins”.

Although there are some moments in ROTS that actually resonate with me on an emotional level and actually feel very powerful and almost get me shook up. But to be fair these are mostly to the credit of John Williams. This one actual feels emotional to me. But then again I’m so used to edits I barely remember the original. Also while Obi-Wans character in the prequels leaves some to be desired, but as an actor Ewan McGregor did a great job.

TLDR I’ll give 2 lists, one including fanedits of the pt and one with the originals.

No fanedits:

  1. ANH
  2. ESB
  3. TFA
  4. ROTJ
  5. R1
  6. ROTS
  7. AOTC
  8. TPM

Including fanedits:

  1. ANH
  2. ESB
  3. TFA
  4. ROTS
  5. TPM
  6. ROTJ (although if I ever finish my conservative edit of ROTJ that just trims annoying things like a simple prequel edit this will be higher. I should have finished it years ago but I have a hard time staying dedicated to it and I always start over when I come back)
  7. R1
  8. AOTC which in Octorox edit I still legitimately enjoy.

Perhaps one of these days. I think to this day oot and mm has the smoothest play control of any that I’ve played so far. I’m playing through TP on the Wiiu (which is an hd port of the GameCube version not the wii version) and while I’m definitely really loving it I find myself missing the way link controlled in the 64 games. Swinging the sword felt so much more smooth yet impactful. And the bow/slingshot mechanics felt better to me too. Although I love the new sword moves you can do. Unrelated to gameplay though the n64 games had better sound. The synths used in the songs weren’t as good but the overall sound quality was better from the n64 I think. The sound effects had so much more kick and punch in the n64 games. Explosions actually caused a thud you can feel in your chest if you play in surround and noises jump out at you. TP has good music and sound effects but the way it’s presented is so bland and flat. There’s no dynamic range, everything sounds so smooth and the same volume. Even big explosions don’t sound powerful all. Even the the effects themselves are good it’s like they had all the life eq’d or compressed (dynamically not file size) out of them and they have mo impact. Less than the n64 games anyway.

They did definitely improve the camera though. And even though I just complained about a bunch of things I really am loving it. Comparing any game to OOT isn’t really a fair measurement 😉

Legitimate question. Is the original legend of Zelda game worth playing now? My first Zelda was a link to the past. And I love it to death play through it about once a year. But I feel like going back to the original would just be a less good version of that. This doesn’t apply between a link to the past and the 3D games because it’s a completely different kind of game whereas from what I’ve seen the original Zelda looks like a less amazing model of ALTTP. Obviously it gets an enormous amount of respect and credit for doing it first and starting it all, but does that make it worth actually playing?

I don’t feel this applies to the 3D games because yes the graphics advanced but as a whole things had developed to a point by ocarina of time that it doesn’t feel primitive compared to the later games it just doesn’t have as good of graphics. Although I’m a strong advocate of a good texture pack.

I will. I won’t call him names, but like Frink said, his presence was overwhelmingly and intentionally negative and the level of condescension in every post was so absurdly high that the only reasonable interpretation was that he was intentionally trolling you, because he was so much better than you that the idea of him stopping to the level of having a reasonable conversation with you is laughable. I am openly glad he is gone.

Quick! Somebody mention a good U2 song to balance the double whammy of meh!
I realize that a fanedit of ROTS is easily Even Better Than The Real Thing, but I can’t imagine it actually makes for a good movie.

I know I’m killing the joke and ruining the fun, but I disagree. But I have the advantage of fanedits basically being how I remember them since I got into fanedits in junior high. (10ish years ago). So I don’t remember how bad they originally were, so I actually enjoy it watching Hal’s or l8wrtrs and barely remember what’s cut.

Why ImpsCum hasn’t been banned is beyond me.

Unlike you (with this name-calling), I am not breaking forum rules.

Yeah, but you’ve been excessively annoying, since… well, when you first signed up here, from what I’ve heard.

Actually not really, I think it’s just a shtick he’s developed in recent years for “comedy.” I’ve also had a pm conversation with him that was perfectly pleasant. I think for some misguided reason he just finds it amusing to post that way.
