This is looking like an amazing project! š
This is looking like an amazing project! š
One quick question: I see you added turbines to the landspeederās engines. I thought that the original vehicle had a mesh grille there, not turbines?
Are the turbines your own unique addition?
This looks fantastic! š
This project sounds fantastic! š
The problem with the modshop scene as a whole was the massive, unfixable continuity error when they filmed it. This scene takes place in the middle of the night, supposedly right after we see Boba walk up to her in the Mandalorian episode. However, in that same Mandalorian episode, Din comes across Fennecās body in the morning-afternoon when the suns are bright and shining! So the timeline presented to the viewer is that either Boba waited over 24 hours until the following night to heal Fennec, leaving us with massive questions about why Boba waited so long & how Fennec survived that wound for over a full day bleeding out and cooking in the suns, or that Boba took her to the shop the same night and then placed her still unconscious body back in the sand during the daytime for Din to find in order to trick himā¦? Neither of those options make sense when you watch a chronological edit, and I truly think the director meant to film that scene as if it happened the same night of the original battle, but forgot about the scene in the Mandalorian where Din finds her body in the daytime.
Hey mate,
Can I make a suggestion? This continuity error could be fixed by changing the daytime scene into a night time scene, or vice-versa depending upon what you want to do. There are many presets available in editing software that allows you to change morning scenes to early evening, or even night time scenes.
This might solve it for you!
This project sounds really interesting, and Iām looking forward to seeing your edit! I have only watched the first season of The Bad Batch once, but had little interest in watching it again due to the repetitive parts you mentioned earlier (āNo, itās too dangerousā. āPlease, Hunta.ā āFine.ā), as well as the silly stuff with Omega, where the show becomes a Disney childrenās program.
I had wondered about the inclusion of the footage from TCW in an edit of TBB; it doesnāt seem that it would work very well though, once you remove the content with the Jedi.
For anyone interested, this video press kit has some great footage, including interviews with George Lucas!
This restoration looks fantastic!!
I just rendered my first full workprint with the new source video files, and oh boy. Even at 1080p itās a huge difference.
What is your new video source file? Sorry if I missed an earlier post on this! Is it a higher-quality video file?
Your V2 already looks fantastic!
Oh Iām not complaining about the edit at all! I apologise to Spence if it seemed that way; I will be doing a much shorter sequence for my own edit.
I mean, you could always make your own edit that removes more of the chase if you want, my dude.
Please donāt misunderstand ā I mean no disrespect! I really do think that your V2 is a great edit! I apologise if it sounded like a complaint ā thatās not what I meant at all!!
I was only thinking in terms of pacing; it could be cut so that after Flea says āYou!ā, Leia is instantly kidnapped: the bag / sack gets put over her head, thereby eliminating the ridiculous-looking āchaseā through the forest, where the adult actors were clearly running slowly.
Thereās only three shots from that scene in the edit, you still find that to be too much?
The small-file version of V2 I downloaded has most of the chase sequence intact, lasting around 50 seconds. Does the large-file version truncate that sequence?
She runs away from them for a couple of shots, then sees the guard and yells to him, guard gets shot, and then they catch her. Itās about as short as that scene can get while still existing. Iām not really sure what else you think could be removed from it?

I watched V1, and now V2.
V2 is really great, and I enjoyed it much more than V1!
The only odd thing I found was the inclusion of the forest chase sequence on Alderaan. It looks so comical and out of place.
Aside from that, itās a great edit!
Itās definitely possible to cut it in a way that removes the major problem with the ending of this episode. It can be edited to re-arrange the sequence of the duel, whereby the end is actually Obi-Wan underneath the pile of rocks, and Vader then walks off, leaving Obi-Wan for dead.
Iāll be doing that for my edit!
How did you address Vader staying alive after Ben has him dead to rights? Itād feel weird if boththis edit & RotS end roughly the same way.
I donāt think thereās anything you can really do in a fan edit to change that, short of reshooting the scene.
The Qui-Gon Jinn deepfake would be de-aging him in the last scene of the series. I also plan on de-aging Obi-Wan in the flashback, since people have already fixed Anakinās appearance.
That sounds great too!
With exporting your projects, Iāve not used Premier (I use and older version of Power Director), so I donāt know how your system works, however most codecs all serve the same purpose. What editing software systems do is to encode the file and place it into a container (such as MKV, MP4 etc.).
As for which type works best, it depends upon what level of quality youāre after. You can generate a file that is 50GB in size, or that same video can be produced as a 3GB file ā the choice is yours!
As for recreating a pan, I have found that finding information on this is extremely rareā¦It took me quite a while to get details on how to do this in Power Director.
Sorry I couldnāt be of more help!
I hope that your edits are going well!
I liked it, I just donāt know how you can make to show that Vader and Obi-Wan travelled to another place in Jabiim to have a duel. But I think itās a good concept.
Thanks mate! I was thinking about that today, while watching Anjohanās edit. I think that one way of doing it is to restructure some of the sequences on Jabiim to accommodate these changes; once Obi-Wan escapes from the Stormtroopers after surrendering, and runs down a tunnel, the following happens:
Vader āPrepare my shipā, followed by shots of Vaderās shuttle. Sequences of Obi-Wan speaking with Haja, Roken and Leia, then Vader arrives on the planet. He destroys one starship, the other ship departs, he duels with Reva, sheās left for dead, then Vader walks away.
Insert a transition wipe.
As Vaderās shuttle is flying towards the planet, you can see that itās becoming dark; this works well for a reasonable passage of time to have elapsed ā so that Obi-Wan is outside of the facility, and Vader has had time to find him.
This would require the removal of Vaderās shuttle landing, as well as painting out the stationary shuttle in the background.
Those two tests looks fantastic!! Iād love to use your footage if and when you finish it!
Also, is there any chance at all that you could do Vaderās TIE on Jabiim in episode 5, instead of his shuttle?
Cheers,
Hi everyone!
Since this is a general ideas thread, Iām posting here until I have something more to open my own.So yeah, Iām going to do my own take on Kenobi theatrical cut. Still writing down the ideas and doing smaller scale tests, but will probably start working on the edit itself sometimes at the end of July. And it will be the one of Adywanic proportions!
Now, given that I have academical background in editing, but decided very early on to chase the career in VFX, this sounds like a perfect side project for me. Not to mention that SW inspired me to do what I do, and that in fact I did some visual effects for the upcoming Andor series. And please donāt get your hopes up for my editing skills, theyāre a bit rusty after years of not doing anything on a larger scale.
For now I can present you with two tests:
- For some reason I expected Vader to fly his own TIE fighter into the final duel. Heās going there for personal reasons, not so much for the official Imperial business. Plus we didnāt see live action TIE Advanced since '77.
This is a single frame test, since Iām still working on the camera tracking (and that compression in the darkness doesnāt help at all!).
- I like Rupert Friendās performance as Grand Inquisitor, so much so I donāt mind that he doesnāt really look like Pauāan. But hey, why not fix it if we can, and bring it a bit closer to 2005 look of the species. I have a full video of it, and in motion in looks marvelous. Have to tweak the tracking on some frames, then Iāll upload it.
Ofc all of my footage will be uploaded for others to use if they please, in 4K.
Iād love to get other peopleās input on something Iād like to try in my edit, for the last few sequences:
What Iād like to do is for Obi-Wan to not leave Jabiim, so that the duel with Vader happens on the one planet, instead of what we see in the TV series, which originally was:
Go to Jabiim / leave Jabiim / go to another planet a few minutes later.
I was thinking along these lines:
Kenobi briefly speaks with Leia, Haja and Roken (scenes that were originally on the starship, whilst fleeing the Star Destroyer). This may require altering the view in the windows to match the hangar bay on Jabiim. Removing the audio of blaster bolts from the Star Destroyer is easy, however I have no experience with altering background images and colours! /
Kenobi surrenders, and converses with Reva /
Reva says āHeās on his wayā /
Vader says āBring my shipā (scene originally located much later) /
Kenobi kills off two Stormtroopers, and escapes /
Vader arrives, destroys one starship, and the second starship takes off /
Brief shot of the starship leaving the atmosphere /
Time permitting: use a shot of a starship entering hyperspace, if timewise it doesnāt conflict with the timeline of the story /
This means cutting out the ridiculous āchaseā by the Star Destroyer and starship. That was some poorly-written nonsense! No tractor beam used? No TIE Fighters, Interceptors or Bombers sent out? No simply blasting the starship into oblivion? Really?! Very ācreative writingā there, Disney⦠/
Reva immediately tries to strike Vader ā no footage of her slowly walking up to him. I want this scene to be much faster than what we saw in the TV series. Her slowly walking up was, well, too slow! /
Vader and Reva duel, and she is left for dead (no scene of her finding the communicator device) /
Vader walks off /
Vader goes to confront Obi-Wan /
This would require the Imperial Shuttle to be removed from the background, as it would conflict with the Imperial Shuttle seen in the background on Jabiim /
Obi-Wan leaving the planet after the duel: to a very slight reversal of footage, where he puts his robe on the seat of the starship. Now he finds L0LA after the duel, instead of beforehand.
What do you all think?
Cheers!
Hey mate,
Could I please get a link to your edit?
Cheers!
After some tinkering and training, Iāve officially given up on putting Samuel L. Jacksonās face onto the background fill-in. It would just be better to digitally map Jacksonās face onto him. Iām moving onto my planned Qui-Gon deepfake, which I may upload to my YouTube channel.
Iād be keen to see what you come up with! Could you please PM me a link to your You Tube channel?
Cheers!
I donāt know if someone already brought this up in the edits of this site, but I have an idea about making the imperial cruiser chasing the rebels ship less silly, right before the second Vader vs Kenobi fight.
You can just cut the supposed hyperdrive problem entirely, and make Obi-Wan wanting to confront Vader just because he wants to resolve this personal conflict with Anakin (this is somewhat confirmed by his conversation with Roken). To accomplish that, I think that would be necessary just to cut most of the chase sequence, and insert a shot of the rebels ship entering the light speed right after Obi-Wanās ship has launched. You could even relocate part of the drama with Obi-Wan and Leia about he being left behind for when they are leaving the planet, i.e. right after Reva being stabbed by Vader but before the beginning of the chase sequence in space.
This way, you make the Empire less incompetent for not sending tie fighters after the rebels ship, since they would have escaped too fast after they leave the orbit of the planet.
This sounds great to me!
Thereās ways to interpret that, though it would be better if there was a shot of an injured Vader walking back to his ship to really sell the point that he barely survived the encounter and needed to fix his suit, to the point of not even doing a confirm kill on Obi-Wan under the rubble (maybe you could add his hard breathing during shots of Vader walking to give the idea that heās struggling). Combine that with the escape on Jabiim, assuming thatās still going to be part of this edit (emphasized by the flashback sequence showing that he still is being taught by Kenobi even now), and thereās certainly enough there to give the impression that Vader considered himself a learner in this scenario.
It makes Obi-Wan being stuck under the rocks a move out of desperation rather than a true final pin on their confrontation. Because the alternative is what happens in the show where Vader just assumes he killed Obi-Wan and foolishly goes to leave the planet, making him look incompetent as he seems to consistently give Kenobi āoutsā to escape; once on Mapuzo and once here.
I 100% agree with you! If itās okay with you, can I use your idea of a shot of Vader walking back to his shuttle, with audio of him struggling to breathe?
Cheers,
I think it defeats the purpose of the line in EP IV. Therefore he wouldāve been the victor of the last encounter which defeats āā¦i was but the learnerā¦ā. So itās wether a question of canon or non-canon editing.
Iāve thought about that; Disney have thrown canon in the garbage simply by having Obi-Wan and Vader encounter each other in this series (but thatās a different complaint haha!).
During the second confrontation, Vader says āDid you truly think that you could defeat me? You have failed, Masterā.
He still refers to Obi-Wan as āMasterā, so Vaderās line in ANH about previously being a learner is still valid.
Ahhh weāre thinking along the same lines haha!! Well, itās good to know that there are other editors who have the same or similar ideas. š
Come to think of it, I believe you posted your ideas before I did. That being the case, I have sent you a PM to get your okay with me using parts of your ideas!
I posted this in NFBismās thread, but also wanted to get other peopleās thought on this:
I was thinking about the following:
During the second duel between Obi-Wan and Vader, instead of Obi-Wan walking away, getting into his starship and going to Tatooine, what if itās Vader leaving Obi-Wan for dead, and leaving the planet first?I pitched something VERY similar in another Kenobi Fan-Edit thread, I think maybe I thought it was this one, haha. Getting old sucks.
