<strong><strong>BLADE RUNNER: The Unauthorized OFF-WORLD Box Set</strong></strong> (Released)
Time
Have you thought about putting Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here as another isolated music score for the Director's Cut? It obviously wasn't anything intentional (none of those "syncrosities" are), but if you start Wish You Were Here right as the Ladd Company logo appears (or rather a half a second before the tree begins to appear) and continue the album on loop through the whole movie (fading in the dialogue in certain scenes to keep it from being boring) it's actually quite a trip. On a coincidence scale I'd give it an astounding 10 out of 10 for some of the things that go on emotionally and lyrically while you watch it.

Anyway as long as we're talking about a big hulking box set of all things Blade Runner--I thought I'd bring it up.

Info: HEY! You Fan Editors are all mini George Lucases!!
Time
Did anyone note ([edit] they did and I can't figure out how to delete my post) that the reason we keep rereleasing our own edits is because we are attempting to create perfect preservation of ot?--which is a never-ending process as time goes on and technology and resources get better and better? Lucas is attempting to perfect his art, not perfect its preservation--that's the difference.

Allright, you guys win--I just need to know a few things--as I'm sort of Mac-illiterate (sans my experience with the bigass set of mac minis my school recently bought for the library)

I can just plug my old dell monitor, pc speakers, and keyboard/mouse straight into a mac, can't i? or is there some compatibility thing going on? (you can laugh if you want--whichever the obvious answer might be--I'm not really knowledgable when it comes to these sorts of things)

In your experience, how much space is needed to comfortably fit your project files for preservation/fan edits on your hard drive?--I hear from everybody here it's a buttload of a load on your hard drive, but that could mean a lot of things. 12-15 gbs of video?...100 to 200 gbs of video...? (uncompressed video is a bitch!)

Help: looking for... Unusual request - for the 50th Oscar Annual (1977)
Time
That totaly sucks though, cause they let the 3 year old kids with computers and an ants-in-the-pants ideal of what a film should look like that did the special fx for Star Wars Episode 1 give an acceptance speech, why not the STAN-MAN!?

Okay off topic. Yeah I'd like to see the original Star Wars oscar sweep--maybe the Academy has them all on record and we could just politely ask to "borrow" a copy? For educational purposes of course...I mean--it's surprising what you can get when go right to the source.

So you think you (generic 'you' I mean) could cut the slap-in-the-face sith knighting (Darth..uhh..hmm..how about Darth...Tyrranus? no no, I already used that one, damn that was the best one...hmmm...Darth...I should do the whole 'in' prefix trick with sith names for him...Let's see, Dium? Well INdium is a rare earth metal...hmm...wait a minute! 'in'vader? invader! vader!!!, yes! Darth...VADER!) and just bring it in on the security tape?

So I was around newegg...
Time
So I was thinking about getting a new computer and--being a moron--I need all the help I can get. I'll mostly be using it for video editing, video viewing (preservation projects!!!), audio whatever, a little graphics I guess--but nothing professional (or else I'd get that bigass expensive AMD processor for like 1.5 grand) I'm actually not too much interested in games, but I do want to keep my options open.

Here's what I've put together so far:

---------------------------------------------
Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811133154 - 150 (what's it mean by "power supply - no" under specs? I know it doesn't mean included, cause that's the one above it)

Harddrive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144160 - 150

Motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813186055 - 200

Videocard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814195003 - 650

Soundcard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829102191 - 400

Power Supply - (I'm completely lost here)

Processor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103573 - 1400

Cooling - (need something better than what's on newegg) - straight from "kollance" website

Drive - I'm just not gonna go there yet, I'm not sure if I should get two for burning, or just get one really good one and have image files on the comp, dual layer of course, litescribe for a certain "90s retro" dvd look sometimes...God I don't know...

------------------------------------------
Total (excluding powersupply and cooling and drives)
3000

In terms of cash, I think the conditions I'd even attempt to do this under are ideally around 4000 dollars. I definitely need to do a new computer cause all I have is a Dell, so not a lot of room for updates.

Everything should be compatible with everything from what I've checked, but if you want to double check for me that'd be great. I'm also not sure if any one part is not up to speed with another part, thereby making the faster part a sort of waste of money. But maybe not, I don't know. I'm sure I'll be upgrading for a few years, but with what I got here I probably won't be upgrading for awhile. If I'm missing any computer part just let me know. Remember I'm an idiot.

Anyway I'm up for critique in any way I'm being stupid - technically, economically, anything--I just wanna never have to upgrade for a few years.

Oh, and if you're not familiar with newegg, you should get aquainted, or at let me know why newegg is actually stupid and I just don't realize there's an even better website out there. Thanks.

Star Wars: Classic Edition by Ocpmovie (Released)
Time
Fair enough, who can I talk to then? PCers anyone?

I guess I could still ask what I would need though--in generic terms I mean--Okay well obviously you've got:

DVD ripper
A video editing program
A dvd making program
a good codec (?)
an mpeg converter (?) (I tried making a dvd on some freeware and it only worked with mpegs)

please add or subtract to the list so I can lay things out in my head here (anybody at all who wants to add can *wink*)

It is clear what we must do! (prepares barely audible omnicent version of Star Wars theme) Ocpmovie, teach us the ways of the force! Tell us every program you used to rip, edit, burn, convert hither and thither, etc! Guide us! And then tell us all (by which I mean me) the PC equivalents of all the things you used! And don't say there is no equivalent cause dammit PC is better and I'll host an entire forum argument over that! We'll take over!

Then you can stick to your policy of being "done" with a project when you've finished it and we can all pick up where you left off!

Seriously though, I have some projects I wanna try and I need to know the best dvd ripper, best converter to mpeg or mp4 or whatever, best dvd maker (most powerful I mean), etc...

I also need to know the best codec for compressing, cause a lot of my projects (just student films since I don't know what to use to rip dvds) get screwed up cause I've got like 50 codecs and only--like--one of them actually puts out decent quality files and I never write it down

Anyway somewhere in there was a question, thank you!

Speaking of this one, how's the video quality? I heard it was a vhs rip, is quality descent, or at least is the sound descent?

You know...(mumbles incoherently) cause if you needed something to upload...that or magfan's version might just be...needing of a...my...spleen...seeding...wink wink...wink
