Return of the Jedi: the worst OT film?

CO said:What ROTJ lacks is that great scene that gives you goosebumps.

SW goosebump moments:
-Luke looking at the charred remains of Owen & Beru and realizing his destiny

-Luke looking at the Binary Sunset

-Luke & Leia swinging across the Death Star to that great John Williams score

-Obiwan smiling at Luke as Vader cuts him down and Luke screaming, "NOO!"

-Han telling Luke, "You're all clear kid!" and Luke blowing up the deathstar.

ESB:

-Yoda lifting the X-Wing to that great John Williams score

-Han telling Leia, "I know." then being frozen in carbonite while Leia stares Darth Vader.

-Vader telling Luke, "No, I am your father!"

-The ending of ESB as Lando/Chewy fly away and Luke,Leia, C3PO and R2 stare out at the galaxy.

I honestly can't think of any scene in ROTJ that gives me goosebumps, there are great scenes like the Throne Room scene, but nothing that gets me like SW & ESB, that is the difference as to why I think ROTJ is the worst.

When Luke rages and lunges after Vader and the music kicks in always gets me tingly. And when Vader is watching his son getting tortured by the Emperor and he finally grabs him. that's all for me.

the speeder bike chase was pretty much the only positively memorable fight scene other than Luke & Vader's duel. everything else was just going through the motions and you saw it before. well we hadn't seen Luke kill a small army of bad guys with his light saber but it was ruined by the whiffle bat effect.

I will say that the one thing that really loses me as a SW fan is having the audience sympathize with Darth Vader, which later continued on as the story of the PT. Sorry, but I just could never do it, as that story never resonated with me, as I rooted and cared about Luke, Leia, and Han, and once Lucas made that left turn shifting the story towards Anakin Skywalker, that is where he lost me as a fan.

The change with Vader really was too soon. Like originally there was going to be 4 more sequels. the last one of that trilogy and then 3 more to help flesh it out. it would have been more gradual. there probably wouldn't have been that dumb Leia is Luke's brother subplot either. someone not even introduced yet. oh if only...

ROTJ was half-assed but nowhere near as bad as the prequels. and i like the Ewoks except i have issues with how easily they pwned the Stormtroopers and how dumb the Stormtroopers got even worse than on the first Death Star. and even then they were allowing them to get away.

i'm still fond of the Ewok movies lol. Gorax was awesome. i believe in some ROTJ Ewok tree village concept painting there was a Gorax peeking at some Ewoks. i like to think that somewhere on the Endor moon there was another Gorax that battled with a traveling AT-AT or something

this ladder business is crazy. how did R2 get back in?

in ANH you see all these technicians and engineers helping pilots and droids get in and it's like this whole big event on it's own. whereas in the prequels all the Jedi have ultra compact ships they can just hop into and not even have to warm it up.

but i think the A-wings were a little smaller than the Jedi fighters seen in ROTS

Granted, the idea of the sphere on Tarkin's desk projecting a hologram I think is a good idea (again, to give it purpose) and would make sense that the officer sent to investigate would contact Tarkin from Dantooine.

Yeah nowadays that scene would be a Stormtrooper communicating directly to Tarkin by hologram. Holograms all over the place in the prequels. Even the Clonetroopers have special hand held hologram communications. it's ridiculous...

Jedi seems to be riddled with cock-ups like this.

It's certainly the contractual obligation album of the OT.

I'd remove the "indeed you are powerful as the Emperor has foreseen." bit from that scene.

I know the EU has made a big thing of Lightsabre construction but it does reduce Jedi Knighthood to the level of home improvement.

The skills bit can stay as building a laser sword from scratch takes skill but the end of the line sounds silly.

Luke is powerful for making somehow turning his light saber green because before then there was only blue wielded by the Jedi and red by the Dark Jedi. by Adywan's reasoning anyway if i remember correctly. look at it that way it works
