Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time
Hello.

I've never posted on this thread before, but I'd just like to say that this project looks fantastic. Shroud of the Dark Side was a very ambitious journey to embark on, and from what can I see, this journey is soon to be completed. Obviously there has been an immense amount of work put into SOTD. I want to congratulate Trooperman and anyone else who has contributed to this project.

Anyway, I do have a question. I noticed a thread from a while ago where you spoke of using footage from the bar in Blade Runner to substitute (or augment?) the bar scene on Coruscant. Is this idea still going to be used, or did it get left behind?

Also, glad to hear you like Attack of the Phantom. That was definitely a quality edit. If you haven't watched the commentary that comes with it I highly recommend it. Very insightful.

I have indeed listened to the comentary, and I too feel that it is quite insightful. However, I sort of know how musicaman means. Though I can see how someone might think the ship looks like a penis I.... just.. wha... No, just no.

Anyway, Tome, great stuff! I don't even miss the buzz droids, they were neat but totaly slowed down the sequence. The removal of many elements were close to seamless, well done.

Hello there Tome. It's nice to see someone praising Attack of the Phantom. Not that nobody else apreciates it, just that it doesn't seem to get as much coverage as the Phantom Edit (or maybe I just missed the whole phantom edits thing when they were new around here, I havn't been around here very long). Attack of the Phantom is one of my favourite edts because most of the cuts seemed so natural, what I particularly liked was the way the Anakin/Obi-Wan in the elevator scene was handled. It was just so natural, unlike edits where it seems people just cut out the bits they didn't like without much regard for paceing or phrasing.

But anyway, I have one question. Why does everyone hate Midichlorians so much, could someone maybe explain this? It seems to be very common for people to dislike them.

This all seems very intruiging. I hope you're able to upload some footage from your first draft soon, I can't wait to see it. I only wish I had the programs and the time to do an edit like this. Good luck.

I'm going on holiday for a while so I thought I'd just wish you, adywan, the best of luck with your edit. It's just fantastic that you did not loose as much of your progress as you did the last time. You're probably fixing it already, but I thought I'd mention how some of the green laser bolts in the death star battle have a strange blue glow around them, even though they are still green. Anyway, may the force be with you.

And to be honest, the DVD picture is so dark, and the shot is so short, I can't tell for sure whether Peter's got his Chewie head on or not.

It's not so much that you can actually see the back of his head, just that the head is black when it should be brown. I figured it might be more noticeable because Adywan has brighteneed the video slightly (I think he said that). Anyway, for the most part I agree with DE, it is not a glaring error, just something that kind of bothered me.

Something that bothers me now that I remember it is in the shot right after luke gets out of his x-wing and Leia, Han and Chewie congradulate him, after it cuts to another angle I don't belive Peter Mayhew is wearing Chewbacca's headpiece anymore. I think it was pointed out in Deleted Magic, it happens when he bends down to go under the x-wing. You can see the back of his head, maybe it could be collored brown?

Luckily restoring the crappy original mattes of the soldiers on the sides of the door was easy because it originally looked so bad anyway.
Do you absolutely have to restore the crappy original mattes of the soldiers on the sides of the door? I guess I see why a real purist would want them back, and there were a few CGI changes made that sort of ticked me off, but this shot really did look terrible, and it takes me straight out of the movie every time I see it. The SE shot was a real improvement. Anyway, just my thought. This project looks great by the way, keep up the good work.

There are standard resolution broadcasts of the 97 SE (from that time period up til before the DVD releases) that have been recorded, but the HD releases are the 2004 versions of the films.
Thanks for clearing that up. The thread was very misleading in this matter. I just read it, and no one ever said whether or not the "HDTV 1080p versions released on Usenet awhile back" were the 1997 versions. It really is too bad that no version exists in high enough resolution to restore the detail lost on the 2004 dvd.

Adywan, The transfer I was reffering to was from the
HDTV 1080p versions released on Usenet awhile back(German & English versions)

That quote is from another thread on this forum titled "1997 SE TB Digital Broadcasts". I have not read all the way through the thread, but you might want to look into it if you think it could help you with bits of detail that were lost on the 2004 transfers, like the sandcrawler shots.

Also, that shot of Chewbacca with a medal is very cool

Adywan, I was just watching the 2006 original unaltered dvd of episode IV (are they usually reffered to as GOUT?), and all the scenes inside the sandcrawler looked completely different to me. They seemed to be much lighter, and I could see much more of the detail. Are those scenes in your version as dark as the official dvds, they were in the first 8min video you posted (the one with the disco music) or is my computer screen way to dark. I think it would make the shot where you added a battle droid look much nicer because in the original you can actually see alot of the detail.
