I am interested in how these radical ideas turn out. The Luke vs Kylo fight especially.
It seems a lot of this edit is going to be using Ivan’s “Luke impersonator”. If the voice is believable, then this edit has a good chance to be among the greatest fanedits of all time. If it isn’t, it will all go up in flames.
I was thinking about creating a trilogy centered around Ashoka. Ep 1 would be Christophis and Holocron Heist, Ep 2 probably the citadel, and Ep 3 the wrong Jedi. I prefer not to think about rebel’s existence.

I like the idea of starting Solo at the heist. Everything before that was quite boring, now that I think about it.
It’s such a small change I probably wouldn’t notice it without the before and after. But wow, it makes such a difference!

Jason, I would reply to all of your queries but I feel you should ask them first to OutboundFlight, to whom I was replying to his “Kennedy could have said no to Lucas’s crazy ideas, but keep the good ones.” statement. Given the 4 SW movies created under Kennedy (where crazy weird ideas made their way into the final products in spite of Kennedy producing), I’ve got enough proof that this very statement is wrong. I’m wondering if it would be wise for other fan editors to report him for doing so somehow - as in, whether that would be a good “cover our ass” move, or if it would just put even more of a target on the community’s back…
I don’t think Disney is too aware of the fan editing community, best for them not to be alerted. If it gets worse the mods could lock the thread (so if Disney ever shuts him down OT.com will be unrelated and have proof of not supporting him).
Lucas was tired of fans criticizing everything he does. If the prequels had been well received, he would have made a ST (he had finished raising a family, the reason he quit after 1983). While I disagree with the special editions and the overall enjoyment of PT, I can imagine it must be annoying to have people complaining about changing something you created in the first place.
Lucas is an ideas man. I think Disney could have put him in control of the Lucasfilm along with Kathleen Kennedy. Kennedy could have said no to Lucas’s crazy ideas, but keep the good ones. Kasden would help with the dialogue. Each installment would have a new director who helps express Lucas’s vision while adding touches of their own.
I don’t think using other characters as VO would be a good as Luke. The whole idea is that Luke is training her, not the voices of the others.
Also, is it just me or is Ivan’s content becoming increasingly clickbaity? The training montage should of been just one video.
Something that’s always pestered me is that of the six original movies, there are 10 light saber duels and half of them as in ROTS. Most movie had one proper big “duel” towards the end, but ROTS has:
I wonder if this can be changed. Count Dokou is hard to fix because it is so instrumental to the plot. The only thing I can think of is cutting after Obi-Wan goes unconscious to when we wakes up in the elevator shaft. Not the best fix, but this duel really lacks stakes.
For Grevious- what if he wasn’t a Jedi Killer, but merely a tactician? When it comes to fighting he will always run and hide, and now without Count Dokou it is only a matter of time before the Jedi hunt him down. His only purpose would be to provide a reason for Obi-Wan to be away from Coruscant. The entire duel is cut and the focus is kept on Anakin and Palpatine.
The Mace duel could be cut entirely save the opening conversation and finale. We only see what Anakin sees: Mace holding Palpatine at saberpoint.
The only thing the Yoda duel does is diminish to great powerful characters into video game bosses, so it should be cut entirely.
The Mustafar duel is epic, but could be trimmed. After watching Duel of the Fates I noticed there was a 10 minute gap and when it returned the characters were all in different places. This created the allusion the battle had been going for hours, and as we all know they mind always does it better than when explicitly told. So what if there was a cut after the first couple minutes to the lava ocean towards the end?
The first time I’ve ever seen a TPM #1. The diversity of opinions never cease to amaze me.
Get rid of Starkiller Base entirely and make it a normal planet (this means painting out the big circle and cutting all references to the station). It could just be the place where they take Rey and the second part of the map is.

I even heard critics dismissed Empire upon release because it “had already been done before”. It seems every new movie nowadays is met by more hate than praise. Will there ever be a point when these Disney-haters are truly happy?
Unpopular opinion: Despite his unreasonable 0/10 ranking of Rogue One, I find Mala’s opinions to be interesting and fun to read.
I give it 2/10 now ! (don’t ask me why… maybe because I feel no SW should deserve 0… and I like the soundtrack, the visual, and even if it doesn’t make much sense at a story level, the Vader’s big scene is brillant).

While my ranking for RO is around 6/10, I agree that the plot doesn’t make much sense. I’ll explain my opinion so you can get an idea where the other side is coming from:
RO should have been an easy film to make. The very premise writes itself- the rebels need to steal the Death Star plans. Why they need to over complicate this is beyond me. The rebels are initially focused on the “pilot” but Bodhi doesn’t have the actual information only a hologram. So Jyn sees the hologram and we learn that he has implemented a weakness in the Death Star towards the end of the first act and the movie should be now over.
Are you seriously telling me Jyn and co sacrificed their lives not for the battle plans but so the rebels would ‘believe them’? The rebels could have their fleet that was deciminated at the end of the movie to the DS and while they would of lost (Luke wouldn’t be there) it would have made far more sense. And if the plans weren’t in the hologram, why? If Galen has access to them it would have been smart to share them with his allies rather than tell them without evidence.
Then they go to Eadu which could be interesting but with little character development falls on it’s face. It’s only at Scarif when things get good- they finnally get to stealing plans.
RO should have spent the entire film at Scariff. A long heist for the plans, the team (which could just be an established rebel special ops squad save Jyn) slowly picked off one by one. The real RO spends 2/3 its time stalling until the end.

Interesting, I thought that was funny (humor is subjective). I imagine the imperial march is real song in SW lore and they couldn’t use the intimidating one for recruitment.

Battle Droids dubbed with a scene from the TCW. It’s not perfect (a lightsaber goes on in the background and I was too lazy for now to add one in) but it gets the point across.
To work with other people for a higher goal, instead of hiding away all by herself. And that’s just the most superficial lesson and I haven’t seen the movie since it was in theaters. There is probably even more if you actually looked for it.
If that were the case, why does she effectively betray the rebellion? It would make more sense if the rebels were the ones who were going to sacrifice themselves regardless and it’s Jyn, not Ackbar ripoff, who comes last second and turns the tide.
With all the talk about how there’s no character development in Rogue One I have to laugh and say that there wasn’t any character development in the original Star Wars movie. Yep, that’s right, there was a lot of critics back in 1977 that said that the characters in Star Wars were boring and bland and that the movie moves along too quickly that you can’t really get to know the characters at all. You see boys and girls you can’t put these movies on a Shakespearean pedestal.
Luke learns to let go of his fear and believe in himself (the force).
Han learns to not be a selfish prick.

Bigger question is what happened to everyone’s faces during the clone wars.
That’s a representation due to animated constraints. I get why they needed a new actor for young Han, but it opens up some strange scenarios. Like there’re selling things with Alden-Han based around that time period. If a new book is set between Solo and ANH centered around Han, would it have Alden or Harrison?
