That is effing amazing. When is that going to be available in a consumer application, probably not for a long time and it would probably cost tens of thousands. Your ESB film restoration woud sure be a lot easier if you only had to clean up a few frames from each scene and apply them to the GOUT.

The issue is? This mono mix's quality is embarassing. There's hissing in the background through the whole thing; it sounds like it was a really early vinyl-to-CD transfer, with a bad noise filter. The strange part is, this new mono remaster is from 2006 while the stereo tracks date to 2000. However, the stereo tracks are supposedly HDCD, so... I don't know what to say.

Well, the album was actually released in stereo, it pioneered stereo sound, it was always intended to be listened to in stereo, that's the novelty of it

Octorox, Don't worry, he has gotten to many of your points, maybe if he were to reiderate what he is changing maybe you would get a good idea! Or you could read 76 pages!

Yeah, I read the first few pages but idk If I have the patience to read all 76. One thing I'd like to know is if Trooperman still plans to use music from other series like 2001 and Star Trek. That would not be a good thing IMO since Star Wars music is Star Wars and if you can recognize music from elsewhere it sort of takes you out of the Star Wars universe IMO. Idk if Trooperman already answered this.

I've really been thinking about this, and something I'd like to see is a lot more tie-ins with ESB. ESB was the darkest movie of the OT, and I think AOTC, considering it's subject matter should be  very dark film as well. I'd like to see a lot of ESB musical cues get more play in AOTC. The asteroid theme, the Imperial March, Yoda's theme (I loved that little bit of Yoda's theme in the Dooku fight) In many ways, AOTC parallels ESB. The "worm scene" parallels the Wampa scene. there is a proid droid towards the beginning of the movie. Jango Fett is introduced like Boba in the OT. Anakin gets his hand cut off like Luke. AOTC should be like a dark and twisted ESB where the Empire are actually the good guys and the rebels are the bad guys. The problem is that it feels far too upbeat and campy. Dooku currently seems like a pure baddie when he should seem like a conflicted and ultimately right character. Maybe misguided in his motives, his seperatists are the precursor of the rebllion. I'd love to see some rebel themes mixed in with the seperatist themes in a dark and unusual way. It would be great juxtaposition. I'd also like to see Dooku with a yellow or green lightsaber and more talk about his grand ideas from deleted scenes as well as no references to his master I'd order to make the Sidious revelation at the end a complete surprise. Also, no federation themes with the clones! Imperial march! Having the same themes for the seperatist and republican armies really confusing things. Giving the Republic Imperial themes and the Seperatists a few hinted rebel themes would make the whole thing feel more like the twisted and cold work of Sidious that it is. He's the master puppeteer and he's got everyone fooled. I'd also like to see something done with the worm scene that is more suspenseful. I like the close up you added but I'd also like it if the worms are heard and not seen before the Jedi sense them, like the Wampa in ESB. I think more things need to revealed by surprise. The audience doesn't need to know everything before the character's do. It ruins the shock. There needs to be more "oh sh*t!" moments like Vader at dinner in Bespin, the Wampa, I am your father ect. Jango should be introduced by the dart scene instead the pointless little exchange, what the probe is carrying (the worms) needs to be a surprise. Palps heading the seperatists needs to be a surprise. The audience needs to be kept on their feet not bored to death. I also think something should be done about Yoda's voice and appearance. he looks or sounds nothing like ESB and has some really stupid backwards lines. his lightsaber skittles need to preserved for ROTS. It would be awesome if the first time we saw him whip out his saber was unexpectedly to cut down some traitorous clones.

I think TM wins when you comapre it with this Bantha Crap Original(Note Anakins Voice...)

Yeah, the voice works in that clip better than the original. the transformation to Vader is a lit more believeable with the deeper voice as well.

Trooperman, are you planning on doing the other prequels as well? I'd love to see this treatment given to Episode III especially.

I also have a question about the crawl in Youtube. Are you really using that music? I can't imagine Star Wars without the familiar title music, and I'd really hate to see music recognizably from other series or sources in Star Wars as well.

All right, here's my opinion.

I definetely liked it. It brought a much needed sense of speed and brevity to that scene, which I believe meandered on for way to long in the original. Also, the omissions as well as the more gritty color scheme definetely made things a lot more realistic. However, some things didn't work for me at all.

1.) The white flashes when the car crashed, the made the scene look a bit less fake by obscuring it but they were also very annoying.

2.) Anakin's voice dub, didn't work very well. Even though the line wasn't changed much I thought the performance wasn't very good and it wasn't mixed in very believably either. The cuts at the beginning, or maybe the lack of sound effects, made it feel odd.

3.) The color scheme, while definetely less unnaturally vibrant than the original, a definite improvement, was a little too dark.

I hope you omit the fact that Zam was a changeling (didn't go anywhere) and trim Jango and Boba's dialouge consideraby (a far cry from the tough, man of few words Boba of ESB)

However, I really liked it and am looking forward to seeing this project completed.

Second clip:

Awesome, I really like your fast cuts. The voiceover mixed in much better this time although the voice seems a bit to deep (although that's probably because I'm used to hearing Hayden's voice) The closeup of the insect was nice although it seemed to differ too much from the other shot's of the insect. It was obviously from a different source.

Another thing I'd like to see if possible, although someone with Adywan skills might be needed to do this, is have the alien's "thumb up" removed on that poster at the end. It always seemed a little silly to me.

I was thinking the exact opposite-  there seem to be a lot of conservatives here, so it follows that there must be a lot of smart people here! (which I already knew, of course. Star Wars fans are naturally smart).

;-)

For the record, I'm as disappointed about what's happened to the Republican party as anyone. I'm voting for John McCain, but he was not my #1 choice for nominee.

Your average american of the conservative persuasion is much more interested in the details of issues and the news than the other side for whatever reason. Yup, that's why conservative talk-radio is so successful, and liberal talk-radio is failing miserably.

And who actually listens to the radio?

How would you Remastered The OOT, If you had Lucas' Money and Power?

zombie84 said:

I'd go for a 5-disk Star Wars set, and then a 4-disk set of ESB and ROTJ, without any SE nonesense--save the SE stuff for the 6-film boxset, because the SE really is only relevant to the prequels.

Star Wars:

disk 1: Digitally restored version sourced from 8k scans of the O-neg (of course color-timed from the best surviving color source, the Technicolor masters). 1981 Crawl optional via seamless branching as a bonus. Audio options: original mono, stereo and a 5.1 mix from the 70mm.

disk 2: New 3-hour documentary just on the making of ANH.

disk 3: Featurettes and mini-documentaries on various topics, plus deleted scenes

disk 4: Archive: Vintage documentaries, interviews, trailers, commercials, etc

disk 5: The Lost Cut. A new 4K transfer of the black and white workprint cut, with commentary track by the editing team.

The set would come with a hardcover book of black and white photographs from the production, a reproduction of the lobby cards, a reproduction of the theatrical souvinir magazine, and a reproduction of a ticket to the premiere. A pared-down 2-disk set could be made for the average consumer.

The ESB/ROTJ sets would basically follow the same format but without the workprint disk. For the boxset I'd include a bonus disk with additional material and a remastered transfer of The Holiday Special.

With the Saga boxset, there would then be maybe additional documentary disks dealing with the 6-film series as a whole, and then each OT film would get an SE disk that would link up with the PT packaging (maybe in some kind of book-like design) with the latest incarnation of the SE, with the previous 2 versions available via seamless branching. A bonus disk would feature SE documentaries, including a feature-length one detailing the alteration of the saga starting in 1981, the origins of the anniversary theatrical re-release, the 1993-1995 restoration effort, the work that went into the 1997 SE, the media and fan reaction, and then the continued revision throughout 2004 and whenever the new one comes out. The prequels would all get new HD transfers from their digital masters, with selectable "bluescreen only" version on the BR release, and a 2-disk documentary set about the making of the trilogy.

I really like the idea of having a "bluescreen only" version of prequels. I'd like to see what the movie looked like without any compositing.

Ady, I know that you're dead-set on removing all of the SE Wampa shots.  I also know that there seems to be quite a few people that want (or, perhaps more precisely, don't mind) the SE Wampa shots to stay in.  It's up to you, of course, but perhaps a compromise could be reached: leave out all of the SE Wampa shots except the one after Luke slices his arm off.  This would keep the mystery of exactly what the Wampa looks like right up to the very end, where get get our first (and final) look at what is scaring the shit out of the characters (and us).  Jaws has been brought up a number of times as a fine example of "less is better," but even Jaws managed to reveal the entire shark towards the end, and IMHO served as an effective way of saying, "Okay, folks, we've been hinting around about this sucker, so here it is in all its glory.  Please try not to wet your pants."

Again, Ady, it's totally your decision, but perhaps this could serve as food for thought, particularly since you aren't even close to doing the actual editing yet.

I agree, as long as all the different "Wampas" are matched for consistency.

Why not fully remove the 2nd original Wampa shot (the one lunging at Luke), replace it with an SE Wampa shot (such as the one where it rises and faces Luke) and make the 1st original Wampa (the one who attacks the Tauntaun) look more like the SE Wampa? The 2nd original Wampa looks the worst anyway, and that shot is the one that should be fixed.

The first orginal Wampa "the puppet" is the best IMO and the others should be adjusted to look like it.

Sorry fro doble post, but adywan wahat do you think about this suggestions:

- Mynock in cave (maybe some small shots)

- Some At-ST at background in Hoth Battle, becausethere only 2 small shots.

- Star Destroyers bombard planet like here ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSSNonaBw-8  ) after destroying shealdor omething like this.

- Centinels Shutles from E4 (they re not EU) leaving hanger and going towards plaet, or something like this. Because there is no scene how Wader and snow trooper apeare on planet... They just entered the door :(

- Dagobah from E3 Deleted scene

I have to second the suggestion about Dagobah from the deleted scene. The E3 look as viewed from space was green and lush and gave the planet a character of it's own. The E5 look was pretty bland and actually pretty indistinguishable from Hoth.

Putting The Original-Original Trilogy's Prequel Story together
Time
Hunter6 said:

The more I think about it, the more it fits.
Anakin was a good man before his fall to the darkside.
Something happen to Anakin to made him turn to darkside.

After ROTJ was released, Lucas was asked about Luke and Leia's mother/Anakin's wife. Lucas said that he did not give her character much thought.

So, at the time of making the OOT, Luke and Leia's mother/Anakin's wife was more likely not the cause of Anakin's fall to the darkside like she was in Revenge of the Sith.

like I wrote before: Anakin was a good man before his fall to the darkside and Something happen to Anakin to made him turn to darkside.

I think that the fall into a nuclear reactor shaft in The second draft of The Empire Strikes Back screenplay was the Original cause of vader turning to darkside.

I think Darth Vader's OOT Origin is this:
After Anakin fell into a nuclear reactor shaft, Anakin found himself with mutations, radiation sickness and extensive cancer and Anakin turned to the darkside to save his own life. Years afterward, Obi-Wan saw what happened to Anakin and try to help Anakin, but it was too late. Obi-Wan and Anakin battled each other. The Battle ended with Anakin falling into a molten pit, inwhich the back of Anakin's body is burned which kills off the last remaining parts of Anakin Skywalker in his mind.

this Darth Vader's OOT Origin fits the OOT. In ESB, after battling vader, Luke jumps and falls into a shaft which may have been foreshadowing Anakin's fall into a nuclear reactor shaft. then, In ROTJ, luke is "on his back in pain" from the emperor's lightning may have been foreshadowing Anakin "on his back in pain" as his back was burned in the molten pit.

Also In ROTJ, the Dying vader throws the emperor into a reactor shaft which may have also been foreshadowing Anakin's fall into a nuclear reactor shaft or a type of Revenge for the falling into the nuclear reactor shaft which turned Anakin to darkside. The Original name for Return of the Jedi (the tittle is about Vader returning to good) was Revenge of the Jedi (this tittle fits the Revenge for the falling into a nuclear reactor shaft idea).

To tell you the truth, that sounds like something out of a comic book. Worse than what's there IMO.

Yeah but to fit on the dvd9 it already has to be compressed into a smaller size. I think 3 hours of HD footage would be more than 8 gigs...

3 hours? ESB is only just over 2 hours. Using the x264 codec and using the correct settings you can convert the 17GB original to 8GB and you'd be hard pressed to see any difference in quality. Don't forget that the Star Wars HD releases are all from TV broadcasts and are nowhere near as good as an original Blu-ray version would be. It just isn't worth doing a higher sized release for a very very slight difference in quality

3, 2 whatever. I guess I thought it was longer than it is.

I don't really like Anime if:

If a fight takes multiple episodes to complete

If the characters have long monolouges inside their heads

If the characters make stupid grunted sounds and battlecries

If there are like 20 main characters and tons of ridiculous plot twists

For example, I like Naruto for the first few episodes. As soon as it took him like an entire fricking season to pass some stupid test I stopped watching the show.

My experience with all anime has been like that so I don't bother to dig up obscure anime or anything like that.
