Idea: STAR WARS REVISITED - The Ultrapurist edition (Tentatively Titled) (Not an Official Adywan production)

I think that crawl was different from the Empire of Dreams one. Which makes the whole thing even lamer since they obviously found something that was in decent shape.

Man this sounds difficult, good luck (maybe a "semi-purist" editon would be easier, creating "the cut" of the original version but just pick your top ten old-school shots that need to come back. )

that might just be what I do....

You can't start with an unaltered GOUT, because the GOUT is too low in quality. The 04 SE is excellent quality, but have added CG, and screwed up colors. Adywan's SW Revisited fixed the color problems, so it would make sense to use it, since a lot of work has already been done.

since the final product wasn't said to be in HD,

it wouldn't really matter what the quality/resolution started off as (DVD),

since you wouldn't be able to tell..

later

-1

Even at DVD res the GOUT has far less detail. The main point of the project is to bring the image detail and excellent colour from Ady's edit to something close enough to the original version of Star Wars. I'm not doing HD because A: it would be harder to work with and B: I think the GOUT elements would stand out too much, even upscaled. I may just cut the HD SE to sync up to the original monomix and go from there (IE trim the extra establishing shots and whatnot) (I'm not exactly sure if I'll use any of Ady's fixes or not yet but I know I will be keeping a few Lucas fixes like the real people in the throne room scene)

I'm not sure if I want to keep continuity fixes that change the shot composition (IE adding or moving a character in a shot) because

A: shot composition and editing is an art form and B: I'd like to keep it close to the original film and only really anal people notice these things...

I love Adywan’s Star Wars Revisited. It’s a monumental achievement and it is one of the best, if not THE BEST, Star Wars alternative edit out there. However, its not the original. Star Wars Revisited, like Lucas’s Special Edition before it, is not a simple FX cleanup job. They both feature bold new sequences and additions which either enhance or detract from, but ultimately change, the movie. I’m not sure If I’m going to go through with this yet but I’ll at least experiement with it a little. Also, I may not upload this just because I’m a little paranoid about being Hunted Down by Lucas’s goons…either way  this is what I may attempt to do.

Create an alternative edit of Star Wars that plays it very close to the original theatrical release but retains many of the FX fixes and continuity fixes instated by Adywan and Lucas. This is basically like a CG free SE

Sources:

Ady’s color-corrected SE

Star Wars Revisited

Star wars Revisited- The Purist Edition

The GOUT- cleaned up using G-Force’s GOUT Stabilization script

Enhancements I’ll probably keep

re rotoscoped Lasers and Sabers (I may need to work on these though to make them less prequely) actually I may not keep these if it saves a lot of time

matte removal

FX gaffe fixes IE R2s Blue Dome ect.

colour correction

Things Ill probably revert

Any re-edited sequences or flipped shots

new music, I know little about audio editing but I’ll try to edit the 5.1 mix to keep elements as close as possible to the monomix, I’ll also probably include the theatrical mono and stereo as well as an isolated score track

All BIG FX Enhancements- ie planet under death star, alien faces ect ect ect

I’ll also revert all Lucasian CG added in the SEs

Software I have:

for Mac:

Final Cut Studio Suite

Photoshop and Illustrator CS2

MPEG Streamclip, VLC ect.

for Windows:

AVISYNTH

VLC ect.

Again, I’m not sure about this, so don’t get your hopes up guys

UPDATE:

Probably not doing this for now, maybe later.

The animation quality of this show sucks.  It is pretty much on par with the Cartoon Networks other lower budget animation crap shows.  It looks wooden and their is no realism or fluidity to the animation.  The characters look like they are carved out of wood.  Wow you would think a billionaire like Lucas could afford to do an expensively animated and cool star wars show with good writing and such instead you get this waste of time.

The guy never gets that you need to hire competant writers and animators, and a couple years back he claimed they would give Pixar a run for their money and compared it to the best of adult japanese animation.  It is none of these things.  Pixar is still king and Lucas is still a lame joke after the prequels and indy 4.

John Lassiter is a genius, Hayao Miyazaki is a genius, George Lucas is a hack.

Bring back Genddy and jettison this crap series or lose lots of fans Lucas will.

Dave Filoni is too much of a Lucas worshipping fanboy, and Will not grow the balls to steer this ship in his own creative direction and tell Lucas his ideas are shit and to fuck off. Very Much in the same way Spielberg Tolerated Lucas constant interference in making indy 4 a good movie and backseat directing that goes all the way back to Return of the Jedi when he rode Marquand on the whole production to get things his way to get even with Kersh.

What retard thought it would be a good idea to have a whole series based around the "roger, roger" robots from episode 1?  WTF.  Might as well make a whole series about JAR JAR and his journey to different planets and he steps in poop on each one and the animals all fart and he says pee-yousa.

That last episode was a complete wankfest and they could not even show padme and anakin kiss because it is too much a kids show.

I kinda agree. But then again it's just a cartoon...on cartoon network. It's sad that I loved Avatar: The Last Airbender and the Genddy Clone Wars but I'm not too keen on this Clone Wars.

A lightsaber is the same from all sides. A face is not. To replace a face as it turns, you need the replacement face from all the same angles. Plus, as humans we are trained to see faces; this would have to be seamless for it to work.

hmmm....I guess using all the video clips available from ESB, combined with the ability to slow down and speed up the footage, as well as morph and tweak the perspective, would provide enough. It would have to be approached on a scene by scene basis. It doesn't help that the puppet Yoda in ROTJ looks off too. I think the CG Yoda was modeled more after that one, looks more like a chipmunk...

Indeed.  But who's up to the challenge of fixing the whole movie?

Well, maybe when Ady eventually starts working on the prequels in a few decades or so...or I could attempt it because I have Final Cut Pro and Motion but no After Effects. I could probably at least come up with a proof of concept even if it doesn't look perfect...again Ady's already doing this with the ESB emperor hologram. Of course, Yoda in all three prequels is a much larger endeavor but It wouldn't be impossible.

EDIT: ahh...stupid double posts....

Here's something that Johnny Ringo suggested, just editing the more static eyes and nose area of Yoda's face. This way, nobody has to tamper with mouth movement or anything else tricky. Adywan is already doing something like this with the Emperor Hologram in ESB. I think this still looks amazingly better. Of course, the mandatory grain, darkening and desaturation...

Anyone else find it funny that that Republic Admiral in the 2nd episode looked EXACTLY like an imperial admiral. I half expected to see Anakin force choke him...

I think it's supposed to be the same guy.

yeah but I mean the drab uniform and everything. I figured that the Republic would have something a little more colorful. It's like they picked him right out of the OT and planted him in Clone Wars

Yeah, its just a mockup. I basically plastered the puppet face on cg Yoda and darkened, desaturated and added grain to the scene to make it look more realistic. Anyway, people like Adywan have really worked magic, especially with his cg morphing on the alien faces in the cantina. If someone like him could rotoscope video of Yoda from ESB and ROTJ onto prequel Yoda's face seamlessly and use that CG style "morphing" to align his facial and mouth movements correctly it would be really cool. A lot of work, but really cool. I'll make more mockups.

EDIT:sorry for the double post
