I kinda like yellow because it's not quite Jedi and not quite Sith. It's ambiguous

My condolences to you and your family Ady. Sorry to hear of your loss.
Sorry to hear about it Ady. My thoughts are with your family
I'll side with Conan just because everything I've seen of him I thought was funny and everything I've seen of Leno I thought wasn't. Loved his recent interview with Ricky Gervais.

I always saw the Jedi as religious figures, like Priests or Monks, that lead a very specific lifestyle not everyone is cut out for.
And, of course, kids are locked into this lifestyle when they are far too young to make such decisions for themselves. Anakin, at nine years old, was considered “too old” to enter the lifestyle.
The more I think about it, the more Anakin’s “From my point of view, the Jedi are evil!” makes sense.
wow, never thought about that. But I can see how it might be easier if it's all you've ever known
I wonder if Vader talked to the younglings before killing them.
“If you become Jedi, you will live your whole lives without ever falling in love, without having children, without getting laid[*], and without any personal possessions other than your lightsaber. Trust me, this is better for you.”
[*] Note: Reportedly, Jedi are allowed to have sex, but not to conceive children. It is established that accidental pregnancies can happen, even to Jedi, so if Jedi are forbidden to conceive children then they clearly must not be told to rely on fallible birth control. Therefore we can only conclude that the sex that Jedi are permitted to have consists of pedophilia, necrophilia, bestiality, and homosexuality. (And no, I'm not drawing a moral equivalence between homosexuality and the others.)
How do you even define bestiality in a universe with multiple sentient species? Is getting it on with a Twilek bestiality or just getting it on with a Ronto?

You can't really kill of any of the major characters because the new emotional arcs and endings required for the other characters aren't there. You'd need to shoot a whole new movie. The again, I'm surprised Leia wasn't an emotional wreck for all of ANH after her entire family and planet was wiped away....seriously one minute her life is turned upside down, the next she's making witty banter...
I hope he listened very carefully to Scorsese's fantastic speech.

I don't think the jedi are supposed to get women pregnant. I think in some EU thing some jedi got disciplined by the order for getting a woman pregnant.
I'm still glad he let them have sex, despite the unpleasant implications. Otherwise you might get paedophile jedi knights preying on the padawans/younglings and Yoda trying to cover up the scandal.
I don't think Jedi should have sex because, again, they are supposed to be totally selfless, they ARE the light side of the force, sex is a loving bond between two people, Jedi are supposed to equally distribute their love to all life through the force. Again, my interpretation.
I think it's seriously unhealthy to ban people from having sex. Not to mention unnatural.
The Jedi way of life could be considered unnatural. Aren't priests not supposed to have sex either? (i.e. they can't get married and sex before marriage is supposedly bad. Sorry I know nothing about organized religion) I always saw the Jedi as religious figures, like Priests or Monks, that lead a very specific lifestyle not everyone is cut out for.
I'm sorry Ghost but I don't think Star Wars is THAT good. I think the first two Star Wars are some of the most entertaining and culturally impactful films ever made but certainly not the best...Avatar's plot isn't ALL that much weaker than Star Wars

I think that's about it. Emotional attachment is an evil, you know. We got that message loud and clear in ROTS, when Annie went evil and killed kids all because he was in love with Padme and thus wanted to save her. Attachment leads to the dark side. Love is evil and makes you kill kiddies.
Wtf has happened to Star Wars?
I think it was clear that Anakin's love of Padme was a bit selfish for a Jedi, he NEEDED her to function (I can't live without her), that's why he was willing to seek Palpy's help. Jedi aren't intended to be something that everyone should emulate, the are an elite force deeply committed to providing a certain service. Attachment is forbidden because Jedi must be able to put all of their passion into service (i.e. the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one). Remember that unconditional love is ok, Jedi must channel all of their love into the force, i.e. into all living things, equally. They are intended to be entirely selfless beings, with no "person" persay. Lucas is not saying romantic love is bad, he is saying it is bad for a Jedi. Being a Jedi isn't just getting to use the force and smack people around with a saber you know. This is just my interpretation. I'm not trying to defend the prequels, just saying I think this is the idea and I think it would have worked out well if Lucas had communicated it better.

I had one problem with Avatar, and that was that I thought the quick acceptance of Jake as the leader towards the end of the movie dumbed down the Navi culture. He didn't even have to apologize, all he had to do was tame this dragon and suddenly they were all over him, personally I don't really think Jake should be able to master that culture and become the leader just like that. Cameron wanted us to see the Navi as a complex culture with a different way of life than our own and I think that scene really made it seem as if Jake was "superior" to them. I thought they had reason to distrust Jake and he was, in many ways, using them. I think rather than the "this is our land" speech (is it really his land?) we should have seen some sort of apology and Jake should have been accepted into their culture and fought with them but not suddenly the leader of all the Navi. Just my two cents. Otherwise I really enjoyed the movie.
Yeah, that's an old racist stereotype that goes white-guys-are-superior-and-make-better-non-whites-than-the-non-whites-themselves.
Yeah that's kind of what I was getting at, but I was a bit hesitant to put it in racial terms. (I prefer to use cultural or ethnic groups rather than race, as I'm a bit hesitant to lump all people of a certain "race", including caucasians, into one cultural unit.) It probably didn't help that I read a similar article before seeing the movie which kind of skewed my mindset.
Or we could go with "Ani", "chosen one" (sarcastically) , or even "Pathetic lifeform" (Just kidding of course) :P

Any chance this is on Rapidshare? I lost the file of the Puggo Grande and would like to be PMed a link to either that or a torrent.
Didn't I send you a DVD? I certainly should have, since you were mentioned during the "making of" segment. Unless you were one of the folks who said you didn't need a hardcopy?
yeah I originally said that I didn't need a hardcopy because I didn't want you to go through the trouble

Does it matter? Wasn't it based on the negatives? Or was that just ANH?
Well the two versions were actually different cuts
^Question in title^
I'm more concerned with the video than the audio because the two versions had different transitions and shots and I'm too lazy to look through them individually but I'd be interested to know.

I've had noone telling me not to, under any circumstances, use prores422 (HQ) so I assume it's ok, though I'd really like the best one for my purposes.
Having said that, I'm toying with the idea of, using filters to give the film a colour depth/grain more like what you'd see if they were made in the 70s like the originals. Anyone got any ideas how this might be accomplished?
There is a grain filter in FCP but you could probably find a much better one somewhere on the internet, problem is, it might cost you
This might help:

Here's what I was able to get using similar techniques

I did some claymation back in Middle school and High School. It's not great but it's something.

I'd recommend getting some software like iStopMotion for Mac or Stop Motion Pro for PC as well as a video camera. Claymation is actually fairly easy as long as you have some patience. You can make the figures using wire frame "skeletons". The last video shows what a "skeleton" looks like. Finish your voice track first and then sync your animation, one frame at a time, to that. We used studio lights but any old desk lamp would probably be fine for lighting, just don't let it get to hot or the clay will get soft.

Ah I'd already done that. When checked, the video got ridiculously squashed in the preview window. When unchecked it was the right size, but had the regular black border instead of the light grey indicating anamorphic.
all right. At least the new project seems to look right :)
3D will not work until I don't have to wear glasses. I'm sorry, but sometimes I'd just rather watch films in 2D. And they are ALREADY finding another way to grab money from us after just releasing Blu-Ray? I thought 2D Blu-Ray had at least another decade on it. This is also another way to separate big blockbusters from lower budget films and make sure no one ever sees them...
Well you can clearly see in many hangar shots that the cockpits are made out of somewhat reflective material. Even a relatively matte surface would show some glare/gloss. It would even be cool to see scratches on the windows.
To me it's plainly a matter of realism. It actually takes me out of the movie sometimes.
