Happy New Year everyone!
Happy New Year everyone!
I’d be a little sad to see those scenes in a Prequels go only because I’m a big fan of the book Catalyst, which does a good job of tying them together with Rogue One. What about altering the plans in AOTC:R to look more like the ANH plans, something like this:
When I first saw Revisited, I was a big fan of the updated displays but since seeing how Rogue One integrates the retro displays and graphics into a modern looking film, I’ve become less keen on them. Looking back, they do feel a bit flashy which contrasts with the cobbled-together used universe look of everything else in the film.
Honestly, I think the most dated looking thing in the film now isn’t any of the original effects, it’s the CG creatures like rontos, dewbacks and womp rats which don’t look as real as today’s CG and don’t have the tangible charm of classic practical creatures.
Merry Christmas everyone.
As for the Death Star plans, they are likely being changed back to the original for ANH:R HD ( Rogue One fixed the continuity error with the dish being on the equator in the one line about them being the “original plans”, so the dish placement was revised in the later schematics) and any mention of the death star removed from Ep 2
The creator has spoken.
Merry Christmas Ady!
Scarif is a little more teal but they look remarkably similar: http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/4/49/Shield_Gate-SW_Battlefront.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/499?cb=20161213043940
It’ll also be interesting to see the approach Ady takes with the displays in ANH:R HD, since he’s already said he’s not going to stay beholden to the Disney films but may incorporate ideas if he likes them (e.g. the Millennium Falcon bunk in The Force Awakens). Rogue One made a very conscious choice to stick the original 70s computer graphics whereas the original ANH:R gussied up most of the dated looking displays. Personally the continuity freak in me would like the displays to stay vintage now, as long as Ady is not going to touch Rogue One.
A weird request but is it possible to do a version of this without the digital/retailer-exclusive content that was later included on the Collector’s Edition bonus disc? I would just prefer not to have content duplicated in my set.
Hal9000’s Prequel Fanedit Care Package might be a useful resource for this project, as it includes all the Prequel DVD deleted scenes in 1080p upscaled quality.
If the point is to extend the movies as much as possible though, the DVD and blu-ray versions are the longest incarnations of the movies with additions like the Jabba scene and new FX sequences. I would think we’re not too concerned about artistic integrity as most of these scenes were cut for a reason in the first place.
Interesting! I’ll be following this project closely. Personally I think you should use the blu-rays as a primary source and splice in other versions when needed.
Out of curiosity, why switch to the Blu-Ray source?
Looking over your cutlist, this looks like it resolves a lot of the problems I had with your first cut. I would definitely be interesting in checking this out. I promise I’ll provide some useful feedback this time!
That’s not a bad idea. I also would be interested in seeing a “no kill” version of the movie, where nothing is changed except that Batman doesn’t kill anyone. Personally, I think that this movie (even the ultimate cut which is significantly better) has some major issues, but right now I can’t think of a way to edit around them that doesn’t feel forced or create other problems.
I know some people have had success with avisynth filters like this: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=96308
But I couldn’t begin to tell you how to do it. If you do end up doing this I’d be very interested in an unedited version of the Blu-Ray with the color correction applied.
I’d also encourage you to use the Blu-Ray of ROTS because I think it looks higher quality as well.
I would personally prefer the 50GB with all the docs, but that’s just me.
Awesome work Dahmage! If you add disc art for the Documentary discs it will be perfect.
Given my slow upload speeds and that i am currently seeding the 4 SW BDs, I’ll hold off on putting Empire on myspleen for a few days to give the current set a chance to seed strongly first.
So a little patience required for those who want those 2 spelling mistakes fixed.
If you decide not to wait, the MEGA links remain available.
I’m patient 😉
Did anybody else make any custom covers/disc art for these? I would really appreciate a two disc set of disc art for Star Wars.
Any specific music craps that stick out?
particular the cut from Han’s death to the starkiller base blowing everything up. I expected the track to continue seamlessly because those two scenes use essentially the same theme, but it actually felt kind of abrupt.
Still very interesting. The music cuts are pretty noticeable to me though. Not significantly moreso than in many prequel edits but for some reason it bothers me more here.
Yeah I’m missing fonts and artwork when I try to use the editable versions too, and I installed all the fonts included in the package.
Fantastic job on the BD50. Initially I had trouble playing it on my PS4 but I was able to get it playing right away on my PS3 and then it worked when I put it back in my PS4, so I think it must have just been a glitch with my PS4. Anxiously looking forward to the other films and the doc discs!
True, but they don’t lay out all the extras in this release 😉
I’m massively anticipating the BD50. Incredible work njvc.
