Yeah I’m not a fan of this, particularly as a proponent of the “Starkiller Base is Illum” theory.

I think having Snap’s line start before the shot changes is enough to buffer the transition. The wipe actually makes it feel more abrupt because it’s such a quick wipe.
No worries, I too do that all the time 😃
Last night I played around with Youtube rips of the deleted scenes trying to cobble together a usable mockup of Leia at the Resistance base: https://mega.nz/#!iY83FLZI!U5kMj4Efpv70sttWNIQL507rkKf19JgGn7MUJSmnBm4
It feels somewhat jarring the first time, but after a few watchthroughs I don’t feel the deletion of the Finn material nearly as much.
The wipes feel unnecessary, but this is a really strong proof of concept.

And, as much as I love the little moment with Leia in the deleted scene, I doubt I’ll use it. The scene, as presented on the BluRay, begins and ends extremely abruptly, with not even a split second of buffer. Given the one place in the movie it would need to go, I don’t think it would be seamless. It’s a shame these deleted scenes weren’t presented to us the way the prequels’ were on DVD: as spruced up finished sequences, for the most part, presented in the same quality as the main features themselves.
That’s a shame, I’ll probably try at least mocking it up but I wouldn’t want it there either if it doesn’t feel seamless.
A lot has changed since Star Wars Revisited was released 10 years ago. What is the plan for distribution?
It will be an 8gb(approx) 720p mkv file at first, most probably available through usenet and direct download links. Torrents will most likely crop up not long after. The 25GB bluray and DVD will follow later in the year once i have completed the special features, which i haven’t started yet because i have been concentrating on getting the edit out of the way first
why 25gb why not the full 50gb.
Because dual-layer discs are more expensive and not as readily available/accessible to most people. Also at 720p it’s not likely to make much of a difference in picture quality.
If the Kor Sella scene is reinserted, I do think we should keep the shots on Hosnian Prime, only to give that thread closure.
“Combat” sounds fine to me.
Here’s a new version with the lightsaber shot. 😃

I like this but has a Star Wars film ever completely cut out foley audio like this? Even the “musical montage” sequences usually have some sound effects, they’re just lowered in the mix.
Typo in the last paragraph, “discovered” is spelled incorrectly. Overall coloring looks really orange too, in a Phantom Menacey sort of way. Otherwise it looks good!
Weird probably impossible idea, could C-3PO replace both TC-14 and JarJar in the Phantom Menace?
3PO belongs to the trade federation and greets Qui-Gon and Obi on the ship in the beginning (re colored and redubbed with an Anthony Daniels soundalike or Daniels’ voice clips from cartoons/radio dramas etc.)
Then he somehow accidentally stumbles onto one of the federation drop ships and winds up on the surface, saved by Qui-Gon instead of JarJar (would have to rotoscope out JarJar frame by frame and composite in new footage of an actor in 3PO costume). He accompanies them from then on, and his meet cute with R2 is moved earlier to the scene when Padme is cleaning R2 (3PO again replacing JarJar)
Could lead to some fun exchanges:
Qui-Gon:
You almost got us killed! Are you brainless?
C-3PO:
I’ll have you know, I’m fluent in over six million forms of-
Qui-Gon:
The ability to speak doesn’t make you intelligent. Now get out of here.
Personally I think the shuttle looks great. A lot more convincing than the TIEs. It doesn’t look like an obvious cutout to me. I’d also like for the edit to keep the “Apocalypse Now” shot if possible…admittedly just because I think it’s a cool shot.
I’d be for a version without the recut if the music can still be changed and not repeated. I do agree that the ships seem to be very far out and then are right on top of Rey pretty quickly in this edit.
Things are moving forward! Here’s a new clip with all the good bits, from Rey leaving the castle and until her return.
Change list:
• Intercutting à la DominicCobb (new)
• Updated score without repeating parts (new)
• Better sound mix (new)
• “They’ve found us”
• No sunset TIEs
• My unnecessary wipe removed (new)
• Finn takes the lightsaber from Maz quicker
• “Those beasts” cut, “they’re here” left in
Wow! Well done!
Great work, that’s pretty close to seamless. The TIE sounds seem a little loud considering how far away they are but otherwise that clip is great.
So here’s my take on Finn’s line “They’ve done it”, redubbing it as “They’ve found us”, including animation on the mouth to make it bite together a bit on the “us” rather than the original open mouth “it”.
What do you think?
It’s noticeably an edit but it’s done pretty well. Not quite there but definitely a start.
I think adding Vader and Luke to Rey’s force vision could be quite cool if done right. I think that was their golden opportunity to actually have Luke and Vader in TFA… something to think about for your edit. Maybe something subtle like this:
An interesting idea for an edit but it feels out of scope for this one. Luke and Vader originally were in that scene and were cut to keep the focus on Rey and her experience.
since i am in the “no crawl for Rogue One” camp and i was disappointed in the hideous opening title card (Jason Ward of Making Star Wars said it looked like someone made it in MS Paint 5 minutes before the movie was released, and i have to agree with him) i decided to make my own title card. The following video is a mockup of the title card that was in the film and then i made 4 title cards of my own. i am trying to decide which one i like best for my inevitable edit of this film. let me know what you all think.
I really like the last two
The biggest thing that prevents this edit from working for me is the “It’s the First Order, they’ve done it” moment. Not just Finn’s dialogue but the music. It’s the tragic violin Starkiller Base music, where I think exciting action ramp-up music would now be more appropriate.
Happy New Year everyone!
I’d be a little sad to see those scenes in a Prequels go only because I’m a big fan of the book Catalyst, which does a good job of tying them together with Rogue One. What about altering the plans in AOTC:R to look more like the ANH plans, something like this:
When I first saw Revisited, I was a big fan of the updated displays but since seeing how Rogue One integrates the retro displays and graphics into a modern looking film, I’ve become less keen on them. Looking back, they do feel a bit flashy which contrasts with the cobbled-together used universe look of everything else in the film.
Honestly, I think the most dated looking thing in the film now isn’t any of the original effects, it’s the CG creatures like rontos, dewbacks and womp rats which don’t look as real as today’s CG and don’t have the tangible charm of classic practical creatures.
Merry Christmas everyone.
As for the Death Star plans, they are likely being changed back to the original for ANH:R HD ( Rogue One fixed the continuity error with the dish being on the equator in the one line about them being the “original plans”, so the dish placement was revised in the later schematics) and any mention of the death star removed from Ep 2
The creator has spoken.
Merry Christmas Ady!
Scarif is a little more teal but they look remarkably similar: http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/4/49/Shield_Gate-SW_Battlefront.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/499?cb=20161213043940
It’ll also be interesting to see the approach Ady takes with the displays in ANH:R HD, since he’s already said he’s not going to stay beholden to the Disney films but may incorporate ideas if he likes them (e.g. the Millennium Falcon bunk in The Force Awakens). Rogue One made a very conscious choice to stick the original 70s computer graphics whereas the original ANH:R gussied up most of the dated looking displays. Personally the continuity freak in me would like the displays to stay vintage now, as long as Ady is not going to touch Rogue One.
A weird request but is it possible to do a version of this without the digital/retailer-exclusive content that was later included on the Collector’s Edition bonus disc? I would just prefer not to have content duplicated in my set.
