Yeah, I don’t like the idea of making Ajan Kloss Naboo either. The Rebellion/Resistance has never had a base on a highly populated planet. After they realize the emperor has returned, it should give them some pause that they’re literally hiding out on his homeworld.
I think the rearrangement of the Han scene would work better if there was some kind of visual filter or even background replacement to clearly indicate this is taking place in a different “internal realm”. I probably wouldn’t even be bothered by the lack of Ben’s scar if that were the case. If someone could add the scar, that would be even better, but probably quite difficult.
Yeah. I wonder if we can reconstruct Boba’s ESB lines with Temuera from other sources (Battlefront, maybe) to improve the performance?

Ben looks a little stiff but I like where this is going! I wish Ben could be put in the middle, but I imagine that would be a quite a bit harder to pull off. As it is, I like the he’s next to Leia rather than Luke.
Does anyone besides masked Kylo and Palptine refer to Rey as a scavenger? I wonder how feasible it may be to remove that, as she seemed to move past that in the eyes of all the characters.
I wouldn’t do that. He’s belittling Rey by referring back to her humble origins.
Maybe he takes after his grandmother and just likes to change outfits between each scene. 😂

I agree with this. Wasn’t going to say anything but the framing of the BTS shot is kind of underwhelming.

Pretty minor improvements, but still worth it. It will be good to see what AI enhancements can do to the footage.
Phantom Menace looks brighter and more contrasty but I don’t really see a difference in detail level.
AOTC probably looks the most improved. Better color and sharper.
ROTS looks sharper as well but I’m not sure that I really see more detail, just more noise.
Interesting poll! I’m sorry I missed out on it. Just curious, are you considering an option of undoing some of the female first order trooper voices/screams and making them male? I’m not sure if the shot from the TFA teaser will be useful without FX work. Kylo’s outfit in the teaser is pretty different, including the fact that he’s wearing a hood.
At this point I’m just not for any solution that decouples the Vader helmet touching scene from Kylo forging his new helmet. I might be swayed if someone does a really great test clip though.
This is a really cool project. I haven’t seen a fanedit of this movie that’s really appealed to me but I would definitely be onboard with a version that’s just the original cut except I can actually see it.
I’m curious to see what people might come up with putting the helmet scene at the start. The fact that he knows Palps is behind Vader’s voice is definitely an important question. In my edit I tried to solve this by having Kylo hear Palps’s voice when he touches the helmet, so basically it’s like Kylo was checking to see if what he said was true.

The mirroring of the Vader Castle does make it seem like its a new shot (along with the removal of Krennic’s ship)
What can also help sell that too is if you don’t use the “whole” clip.
Here is a quick and dirty rough idea if moving the Vader helmet scene towards the beginning. As for the middle of it, I didn’t do anything to it since I wanted to show just the “kylo” footage with Vader’s helmet. Obviously the idea would be to alter all that flashback/imagery/sounds/etc. to fit more on the lines of “Vader” guiding Kylo.

Interesting. I have to say though, for me personally, “why is Kylo reforging his mask for seemingly no reason?” was a bigger wtf moment in the theater than “why is he touching Vader’s helmet after knowing that it’s really Palpatine’s voice speaking to him?”. I wish we could add the mask to Kylo during the Mustafar sequence and have the reforging take place in between, but I think that would be pretty difficult.
I really like the way DominicCobb moved that sequence to just before Kylo reforges his helmet along with the new vision sequence he created. I wonder if there would be anyway to retain the benefits of his approach while also fixing the apparent continuity issue of him consulting the helmet after he realizes Palpatine is behind Vader “speaking to him”.
I just had an idea for a somewhat-major change that could be made to the ending.
One thing that bugs me about this movie’s finale is that the two battles happening (the one in the sky, and the one with Palpatine) don’t really line up in terms of tension. When Palpatine drains Ben and Rey, it seems like our heroes are at their lowest point, and this is reinforced by the cut back to Poe seeing his friend Wexley die. Then Lando & co. arrive, and the music switches to the main Star Wars theme, to indicate that we’re back on the light side of things, but then we cut back to Palpatine, who “kills” Ben and electrocutes the entire fleet, leaving Rey, seemingly alone, to hear the voices of Jedi past and gain the strength to face Palpatine.
Basically, the movie tries to give us two cathartic, portals-esque moments, the first of which is kind of invalidated by the second. The way I see it, the night should be darkest just before the dawn.
So what if the not-navy arrived AFTER Palpatine started zapping?Picture this: Palpatine drains Rey and Ben. Above, Wexley dies. How can this get any worse? Palpatine “kills” Ben and starts electrocuting the rest of the rebels. Rey sees this from below and sheds a single tear. Poe delivers his line about how he “thought we had a shot,” just as the Tantive IV, the very ship that appeared in the opening shot of SW77 as a symbol of the underdog rebellion, is destroyed. So is it the end? **** no, because that’s when Rey starts hearing the voices of all the Jedi that came before her. When she stands up and ignites her lightsaber, prompting Palpatine to stop zapping, a random voice over Poe’s radio says something along the lines of “The sky is clear, now is the time!” That’s when Poe looks up to see Lando, along with thousands of resistance sympathizers, having come to the help. Things proceed as normal from there, possibly with the addition of Jonh’s ghosts.
Most of this would just require color correction, as well as one or two additional lines of dialogue. The only trouble I’m running into is that a lot of the shots of ships falling include ships that came with Lando, so I would have to either remove those shots or find a way to remove those ships in particular from them.
Whaddya think?
I like this idea, reminds me of how many edits of The Phantom Menace have restructured the third act in that film to ramp up the tension.

I wonder if there’d be any way for Kylo to tell Rey that Palpatine sensed “a vergence” in the Force surrounding her. This could be a cool callback to Ep 1, since the last “vergence” ended up being the guy that killed him the first time.
When Yoda says “War” it sounds a bit overtly sentence-mixy. Not sure if there’s another take you could use.
I think the JAT line “Face up to what you’ve done” sticks out. Maybe you could pitch it down a bit or something?

Now that I think of it it would be nice if we could figure out some solution(s) to Mustafar. I do have a couple ideas in mind.
I’ve seen some other people post tests were they added more establishing shots culled from other sources. I think that’s probably your best bet. There is a canon reason why Mustafar looks the way it does in this movie but for someone only tuned into the films it’s a bit confusing.

So I am going to write this down one more time… It got over looked probably because I rarely offer any suggestions, but I thought this idea of mine was pretty solid regarding moving the chess scene.
The idea of moving the chess scene is awesome and its wonderfully executed! I do have an idea… I think it would be great if there is a way to add a clip with R2 and 3PO watching the game. They are the only constant in the saga so they should be there in the end with their friends. Below is a scene from AOTC where 3PO tells R2, “for a mechanic you do a excessive amount of thinking.” There is enough dialog from 3PO to make him say, “For a Wookie you do a excessive amount of thinking.” Then you can do a cut to R2 doing a silly chirping noise like the link below. In that way they’re all together and all four of them are giving Chewie a hard time. Just like a bunch of siblings.
My thoughts are you see Chewie thinking then it cuts to 3PO and he says his line, then cut to R2 making a silly chirp noise basically agreeing with 3PO, then we cut to Poe and Fin, then the finally scene with Rey and BB-8 Thoughts?

I like this idea. I think the trick would be to get footage of R2 and 3PO that works for the scene. I have a feeling that footage from A New Hope wouldn’t blend very well.
I don’t have a problem with the “All the Jedi” line, but I would have preferred if she said “And I’m no one”. The other alternatives don’t really do anything for me.
