I never liked the idea of turning Ajan Kloss into Naboo because it just seems crazy that they would be hiding out from Palpatine on…Palpatine’s home planet. Rebel/Resistance bases have always been on unpopulated planets and I’d prefer to keep it that way.

I was just wondering why do you guys think Ben’s ghost should apear at the end. In my perspective he should have lived, but since he became one with the force I find interesting why they chose not to put him with Luke and Leia. My best guess is that they wanted to leave some doors open, for example, maybe he is part of Rey now? I don’t know… Maybe some dyad thing. Anyway, I personally would prefer him not appearing (actually, I would prefer him alive), but that’s just me.
Going back to my cave now, you guys are amazing!
I mean, this is (as far as we know) the end of the saga. Not really sure why they would need to “leave doors open” in the final film. If they wanted to imply he was part of Rey they should have done more to make that clear imo.

Imo the new shots need to linger longer. I would nix Corellia.
I wouldn’t want to lose Jakku. A.) because it’s Rey’s home planet and B.) because it’s where this trilogy started and C.) Because there’s sort of poetry to the destroyers of this war becoming relics on Jakku, just like the war before. I’d also very much prefer Naboo to Corellia because I think anyone who didn’t watch Solo (which is a lot of people judging by its box office performance) would be lost.
I’d say no to Tatooine, one because it’s visually similar to Jakku, and two because we actually see it like ten minutes later in the movie.
I’d pick somewhere populated. Naboo, Canto Bight or Kijimi come to mind.
If we want to go outside the movies, there’s Lothal (from Rebels), Onderon (from the EU and then Clone Wars), Corellia (from EU and then Solo), Jedha (from Rogue One) and Batuu (from the Galaxy’s Edge theme park)
Personally I’d probably go with Naboo, even if it means two prequel planets. If we look at the movie as a whole, the OT has three planets represented: Endor, Bespin and Tatooine.
I’ve been thumbing through the latest workprint, and I’m loving most of the changes. The only thing I’m not so keen on is how the Knights of Ren on Passana is moved up to break up the underground sequence. I wonder if it would be better to just move the little Leia/Rose/Snap scene there instead? I think it would be fine to cut straight from the quicksand to to everyone falling through on the bottom, since I don’t think there’s any doubt that our heroes are going to survive, and they’re still in a relative state of peril, so I don’t think it would take away from the Leia scene either.
I still like the idea of Rey representing a “vergence in the Force” like Anakin was. It gives Kylo something impactful to say in the hangar scene (although you’d need to create new dialogue wholecloth) and keeps her from being actually related to anybody.
Something like this:
Rey: Why did the Emperor come for me? Why did he want to kill a child? Tell me.
Ren: Because he saw what you would become. You don’t just have power. You’re a vergence in the Force Rey. The most powerful nexus of Force energy since my grandfather. I didn’t want to accept it, but it’s the truth.
For years, I’ve been chasing his power, and all this time it’s been right in front of me. In you. Palpatine fears your power, Rey. We’ll kill him, together, and take the throne.

Minor thought, but I feel like it might make sense to add Luke’s line from TLJ “You went straight to the dark” somewhere in Rey’s vision. I think anything that plays up Rey’s struggle with the dark side/her power will help sell the removal of Rey Palpatine.
Yeah, I like the version with just the new TIE shot. I feel like it adds a needed buffer between the two shots and looks seamless.
Could you just cut to the chase and tell us what the lines are?

I recently extracted all the audio from The LEGO Star Wars Force Awakens video game, looking for Kylo stuff that could be useful in a “Rey nobody” edit. Unfortunately it seems like either the extraction went wrong or all the files are just mislabeled, because stuff labeled Kylo Ren is clearly not. Here’s an intended-as-final Mustafar sequence.
I like it, but I still feel like the color grading and foliage in the Battlefront shots don’t quite match up (along with the in-atmosphere Star Destroyer being a bit weird). These are definitely nitpicks though so I’d be okay with this being the final version.
This is definitely a nit-pick but in the transporter shot you can see the star destroyer in the sky and you don’t see it in any other shots in the atmosphere.
I wonder if it would be possible to add the shadow of the star destroyer over the landscape in the TIE shot.
Also I’m not totally sure how I feel about the new clip. I think the cut from the troopers to Kylo is too abrupt.
Id probably need to listen to them a bunch of times but off the top of my head

Watching it again, I noticed that the foliage in the Battlefront shots is quite different, with big ferns and other things we don’t see in the original film footage. I’m not sure if that could be addressed. Otherwise it might be best to play it safe and just use the flyover.
EDIT: It’s really just the one shot of the transports landing, and in hindsight maybe it’s not that bad.
I disagree. I think the Battlefront trailer footage and the lava river are too obviously computer animated<
Compared to pretty much every shot of the clones in Attack of the Clones I think it looks far better. I mean, it does look like CGI, but many shots in these films are mostly or entirely CGI. I just don’t think it looks noticeably worse than other effects shots in the film. Maybe if they were actually shooting it for the film they would have used actors in suits but unfortunately we don’t live in that universe.
