Unless your counting the clone wars cartoon none of that is explained including his coughing which 95% of those that saw the movie, were like, "what the hell is this crap!" To me it fills in the plot hole better than exists now. The plot holes in the entire saga are so innumerous that it actually, ironically works to the favor of GL by fandom coming up with wild theories to explain all of it. I had thought of doing a clone wars edit as well actually, though this would be last on my list. I am thinking of using some sound bites from it though early on. BTW, Commander Courage...sadly, and wonderfully, I had never seen those tome poems on theat 2nd page of the DVD, very pleasant suprise and a trove of good soundbites for my edit...THANK YOU! Including Maul Dialogue (clearer than whats in the duel of the fates video) I wish I could get someone to catalog movies such as closer with natalie potman or pulp fiction with samuel jackson and see if any audio could link up to the movies. There is a number of aforementioned holes that other drafts of the script really fill in, but is lost on the final movie. I could drive myself crazy doing all of this. I am too obsessive about this.

As far as the tone poems I must admit I am bit ignorant when it comes to those I know about them, but I need to view them all now that you mentioned it. if I will play with a quicker edit removing the silliness and giving it a darker tone. Darth Maul I know had a line dropped "I told you there was more to this...the Jedi are involved." I was thinking about cutting the scene where Maul get cuts in half (I don't know if I like it), but it does link the Greivous thing. You're right though I'd thought of which name to choose myself to bridge it. Greivous would be easier for coninuity and it'd give so much more depth to Anakin and Obi-wan wanting to seek him out so badly. I was thinking about crosscutting a scene where Qui-gon drops to his knees when Grievous falls after Obi-wan shoots him making vengeance (and yes this jedi wants revenge for his master) darker (he has qui-gon's defiance after all). Grievous would be redubbed, I have very high-end audio software and should be able to credibly achieve this (especially with nothing to sync up). That is a wonderful point about his guards having vibroblades. I would love to play with the fight in Episode three and give him 2 dual sabers instead of 4 sabers, but I'll have to look at that, that may not be possible (I've only seen ROTS twice). Give me the dialogue for maul you are talking about. I know there was another line I've heard of that maul says "this is the beginning of the end for the jedi." Looking on TFN I like this dropped line of "You seem more worried about the Jedi than you are of me..." to the nemodians. This was cut, but I need to look at this source

Maul Getting Anxious

Jon adds this cutscene: When Obi-Wan's by the final force field in the showdown, before he duels Maul, there was a cool part after Maul activates his saber. He spins and moves to the right, spinning his saber in the process, right before the force field deactivates. In the movie, you can see him still moving to the right, and his light saber now on his right, instead of infront and some what to the left. In the ep 1 game for the PC, I think it's the load game thing. Hover the mouse over it, and you can see the entire scene, uncut.

This is the dialogue I think you are referring to:

Darth Maul and Obi-Wan Chat

Another item that was in the Insider's Guide is very cool. In one of the drafts of TPM, Lucas added some dialogue between Obi-Wan and Maul after Qui-Gon is killed:

Obi-Wan: "Your style of fighting is old, but I understand it now..."
Maul: "You learn fast."
Obi-Wan: "You don't bother to learn."
Maul: "I don't have to."
Obi-Wan then cuts Maul in half and says: "Learn not, live not, my master always says."

This is cool about the power of the sith...

Although never filmed, one of the coolest scenes cut from the revised draft is when Sidious is contacted for the first time and Daultay Dofine argues with him. Sidious begins Force-choking Dofine and picks him up off the ground and says,"You fool, my reach is far greater than the Jedi. Only a Sith can wield the force over such a great distance."

This is from TFN too about obi-wan and maul in the desert:

Also, it was noticed in the illustrated screenplay, there are storyboard drawings of Darth Maul fighting Obi-Wan in the desert, so maybe originaly both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were supposed to fight him? or Lucas wasn't sure who would fight who? Interesting, and we just thought that was a promotional picture in Vanity Fair. We'll keep working on that one. Here's a brief update as well, courtesy of Michael:

In the first few drafts of the screenplay it was OBI-WAN who went into the Tatooine marketplace, not QUI-GON, as he hadn't been introduced into the story yet (as he first appeared on Coruscant). So in that sith encounter in the desert it was OBI-WAN who fought Maul. But that still does not explain why they made storyboards. They may have just made rough ones in very early production for Lucas so he could see what the sequence would look like.

Further this felt odd in the theatrical version and makes sense now...I don't like the eopies anyway (cut)

Borrowing the Eopies

Remember when Qui-Gon leaves to return and pick up Anakin, He's riding on a horse like animal and holding the reigns of a second one (for Anakin to ride back on, I thought). Yet Qui-Gon and Anakin are shown walking back to the Queen's ship when they are attracted by Maul. So, what happened to the horse like animals? Where they given to Shimi? Stolen? Where they injured and left behind? Interesting note, but there is no mention of them in the novel. Good observation, and the again the novelization comes into play: It shows that Qui-Gon has borrowed the Eeopies and is returning them. That's why they walk back. They run back to the ship because after Anakin leaves his mother, a Sith probe droid spots them and Qui-Gon slashes it with his saber. They then rush back to the ship, which is why they are running.

Further, I got this there as well about there possibly being more than 2...and it would make a good scroll...oh and here's news I might do more than 3/6 movies. I like the idea of trilogies. I might do 3 trilogies (as originally intended) that are shorter, tighter and can add more into scroll for each. A trinity of trinities. Perfection will be attained. Oh and that background on the rules of sith...

History of the Sith

The book also gives a history of the Siths. And that the Siths wiped each other out and only one survived - Darth Bane. He developed the idea of only two Siths at a time to prevent internal problems. Lucas has said: "One of the themes throughout the films is that the Sith Lords, when they started out thousands of years ago, embraced the Dark Side. They were greedy and self-centered and they all wanted to take over, so they killed each other. Eventually there was only one left, and that one took on an apprentice. And for thousands of years, the master would teach the apprentice, the master would die, the apprentice would then teach another apprentice, become the master, and so on. But there could never be more than two of them, because if there were, they woud try to get rid of the leader, which is exactly what Vader was trying to do, and that's exactly what the Emperor was trying to do. The Emperor was trying to get rid of Vader, and Vader was trying to get rid of the Emperor. And that is the antithesis of a symbiotic relationship, in which, if you do that, you become cancer, and you eventually kill the host, and everything dies." So does this mean there CAN be more Sith than two? Cool.

More Maul from TFN...

Many astute readers have pointed out many of Darth Maul's lines missing. While watching the Stars Wars Video Duel of the Fates it was noticed that these lines did not appear in the film. For example, Darth Maul says "Fear is my ally. Fear attracts the fearful." While not appearing in the script itself, it is unclear if this could have appeared in the movie. Possibly it was created for the Tone Poem and DOTF Video as a stand-alone, or it may have simply been cut.

And this has revealed on of my titles for the films..."Duel of the Fates", "Shroud of the Dark Side" was planned ever since yoda says that line at the end of ATOC, although I saw Trooperman had thought of using that title as well, I think it would work better with an expanded series of films. Not sure yet. "Fall of the Republic" is another giving homage to fanfic from 1983. We'll see.

As far as Qui-gon he will get some more play, I can easily add ethereal lines back in but doing a ghost of him, get more involved. I have Vegas, Acid, and Sound Forge, but I do not have something like After Effects. I have been kicking around a lofty idea of maul, the emperor, etc. in hell. Mustafah is based off of Lucas' original idea of having the emperor's lair b

Absolutely! I PM'd you about some things. I look forward to your contributions. It is an exciting time for fans, no doubt. I'd love to see 1000 edits, they'd all be different, interesting interpretations of something we love and something would be cool out of all of them. Delving into new music, alternate scenes and fx is risky, but so compelling to me as it is you. Keep up all the good work.

Good post, count. I agree. I was truly hating this midicholorians concept and the virgin birth, but now...having things come full circle and the immaculate conception be for evil, its at least got me thinking. My edit will be darker. I am working through this now. But I will be removing the silliness, slapstick, and corny CG scenes, extending scenes the darker scenes. The movie will have a more sinister tone...even ROTS which went more for the direction I will head the movies can be darker in tone and more moving. The story is also convoluted with characters and lines. The "roger, Roger" droids that guy flying the ship that is the worst actor EVER, that says "that little droid did it" about r2, etc. I am already working through the screenplay (and please if you have the final update of TPM, ATOC or ROTS PM me I have ones that are at various stages and are frustratingly different in spots...though enlightenly for research purposes). I have some new scenes I will add to. From some different films. One scene steals a shot from "The Village" where he is wearing a cloak in the tower surrounded by torches...jedi scene...obviously. I hate the indecisiveness of many of the characters too...umm, I think, ye...yes, well, I am not sure, etc. the PT is littered with it. It slows down the films makes the characters less driven, urgency is lost.

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time
Some of the CGI does look awful looking back. Either it needs to be reworked (a la the 2007 HD releases) or cut in my mind. That cow scene is bad, very bad. I hate the scene where obi and Qui-Gon drop from the shaft in TPM. Or even some of the creature in TPM at the extended podrace or the announcer...so cartoony. Some irony though is yoda looks much better in CGI than that awful TPM puppet. Lucas has talked about redoing that as CGI though. Some of his changes in this case would be welcome. Remember the Jabba from the 97 SE? That was atrocious (and yes I would dump Jabba altogether out of ANH). Love him or hate him I guarantee more changes, especially to updating CGI are coming...in HD the contrast of the cartooniness will stand out more unless reworked. Trooperman and MTHaslett have some great ideas and I am sure it won't include Ani Bullrides

I’ve been gone for some time now. I am back. I am getting a very high-end DV-editing PC, dual screens, and using vegas 6 to do some of my own editing work. I have always planned on this project and reading here through the last few years has further inspired that. I love the work by magfan, what digital man has worked on sounds great and Trooperman’s ideas sound wonderful. Further I am excited to see Deleted magic. I know there has been much discussion over edits and what you’d do. And I am leaning more towards trooperman’s type edit that is a bit more aggressive (mine will still have its own feel of course). I am going to do several things with my favorite character Maul and my least favorite character Jar-Jar, to increase and decrease screen time effectively. I have been thinking aobut using several sources for a new creation, possibly some of the close-sounding lines from clone wars (the cartoon, with obi-won some of the lines match his voice well). I was also considering using some scenes from fan films, radio dramas and even movies not even star wars related to create some new scenes for the direction I want to go. I have to say I LOVE THE IDEA that trooperman had about the moonlight. I hope we all can work together in though and reality to make something wonderful to use each other for a springboard of inspiration and debate.

I would love to hear some thoughts on what you would like to see added and taken out. Even if its not there. Also on where you would grab some potential new material (sounds, voices, scenes, music, etc.)

Further, I know many edits just dump midicholorians and most hate the “immaculate conception”, as did I. Though I read this from T-bonz’ site…

Wrap your head around this. Was Darth Plagueis really Palpatine’s master? Did Palpatine take the secret of Plagueis and have the midichlorians create life in the form of Anakin Skywalker? How does Palpatine know about Padmé and Anakin’s dreams? The film answers NONE of these questions outright but gives us plenty of room to speculate.

Any thoughts on that.

Thanks ahead of time for any help. And I love this board. Sorry I have been away. My computer was trashed for some time and work got heavy. I forgot to mention someone I enjoy talking to as well, Rikter, thanks for having me watch Clone Wars and that movie, Equilibrium was cool.

Zion your work looks phenomenal. I am also looking forward to Mike's (MVERTA) professional restoration, Mverta's site with screencaps should be added too those screencaps look great, and Laserman is working on it as well. Very cool concept though. Good job Bad Ash. Zion why do you say we can't do an LD faces benchmark to compare these transfer along with potential restoration. Wouldn't that be the best way to see what is potentially lost in a transfer and what is added with color correction and clean-up? Its hard using the 2004 set as a mark when that cleanup process involves the 9th biggest supercomputer in the world with 1000's of Mac's daisychained...Lowry's work is pretty spectacular. I am greatly looking forward to these project for the O-OT though.

idea for the end of Ep3

Anyway of getting that lost footage would be cool...absolutely. I doubt it would happen though. It would change the look of the film. The clips that I have seen are rough...and certainly the technology available could clean it up and I think it could be spliced with a new hope but the films now are shot in HD and they may look odd. Especially in 2-3 years when the HD boxset is released, the difference may be more stark with that footage and what is in episode III, no matter how much cleaning you do.

We can hope and maybe the techology will be there.

OT.com is so loved....
Time
I thought the same thing Luke. Damn, what a bunch of sell-outs. I love this board. Ironic, that they call us extreme, when I think we are the sane ones. We are all here because we love Star Wars, but not blindly at all costs. Its like if you were to question something the government does, it doesn't make you non-patriotic. I love Star Wars and just like the quote thats now on the homepage about Lucas being against the colorization of the 3 stooges...I think its cool if he wants to make changes and do directors cuts, actually I don't mind a few of the changes, but for God's sakes a trilogy, so epic needs to be preserved. If it were, there would be no bootleg thread. We're all here for the love. Simple. I respect MF.com and even had a thread a while questioning where it went. I find it ironic that MF.com would a stand on us at OT.com, when they themselves are often showing spoilers and doing fringe articles that are so despised at TFN, hence why I thought they got shut down. Apparently that one dude on there is Bizzle who tried to trash MagnoliaFan...which is crap. He ragged on his work and never even watched it. That is ignorance. I think Magnolia is awesome and am so glad he is a part of this board. He himslef does what he does for the love of Star Wars...he clearly loves the saga and as he says in the films, there is just another version of the beloved saga, its not gospel or to torn down. Its his work and like Lucas says, if you don't like it, don't watch it.

We simply want the option to see what we once liked, no loved, and had taken from us. This thread is garbage, and it is disturbing that people from this forum are badmouthing us. People on that thread brag about trying to take down magnolia...crap. Our numbers grow. Our recognition grows. You know I was talking on the phone with Rikter 2 days ago and mentioned how every review I have read of the boxset (which I do not hate, but do have some problems with) does mention the purists or the "changes", even the overwhelmingly positive ones. That is a victory in itself. Kershner, Lowry, Ling, all mention to expect Lucas to cave to the public outcry with his 2007 release. Victory. Look in the end it may or may not happen, but we have won hearts and minds and given a home to those that feel abandoned by something that was such a huge part of their lives and childhoods. We found a home. And their is diversity here. People from all over the world. People of different backgrounds. People that have vastly different likes and dislikes with the Star Wars saga. People that know the SW universe to minute detail and casual fans. The board may have some general consensus, but that's what makes it home. If you dare question or think about what you love deeply...this is the place.

I have made so many friends here and like my thread on my fiancee, I post things that are personal and funny. I enjoy conversing with my friends. I think we can "bash" at times, but in jest. We laugh here and have a sense of humor and the diversity and the right to question often make so many of our thread amusing. Again I think the fact that so many casual fans are here often makes it very amusing and lighthearted and not chained down with quibbles on "force-chokes", just kidding (a thread on here) - see that's the humor.

I kind of think of that Statue of Liberty thing...bring us your tired, your sick, your poor...

Well I guess, stuff like this makes me be defensive and I am trying to wax poetic, but I love when a new person posts here we say, "welcome home" and not bash them for being "newbies" with inferior intelligence or quip "do a search" to them like other boards. I love this place.

So to all the haters... (jimbo help me out here, you're good at being crass...fill this in for me).

HaHa, I am laughing my ass off guys. I don't know about the alternate fuel source...they'd be awesome if someone with talent (and there is more than one here) made some changes. She's excited to watch the whole Empire of Dreams (and she watched the shorter one on A&E...that's how she heard about the new boxset release and gained more interest when we were watching that together the weekend before it came out).

BTW, if you clone her, don't give her Morrison's Kiwi voice OK, I like the voice she's got!

You guys are tripping me out, I thought I was lucky, but maybe like starkiller said (great name BTW...going back to the first scripts) its more than that.

Maybe I should have an OT.com wedding reception at the Skywalker Ranch...crash Lucas party for my own!

Wow, within 16 hours or posting last I got this many responses! Well, unfortunately there is repeated Jimbo rudeness. Jimbo it certainly is out of line to ask about how she is in bed. she is very beautiful and I am lucky to have her, thanks for all the positive comments from other posters. I thought this would be an interesting thread not only because it is indeed the love of my life that is interested in Star Wars and thinking about it on a philosophical level, but also that she is new to it and what is old and "original" to her is not gospel and is not necessarily better, simply because it was original. So I was curious to see what she thought was better when comparing the two. Like I said she puts the OT in the same order we all do 1. TESB 2.ANH 3. ROTJ She likes the MF edits over the I & II lucas put out. She disliked most of the changes lucas made, except cosmetic ones. She liked when I explained the deleted scenes with Luke and Biggs. Again, the most interesting and one of the most controversial changes she liked (but disliked pretty much all others) was the Hayden Ghost. I like the original again, because I've seen them 100 times and changing them seems like herecy. What was cool about her statements was she was thinking about it, grasping the concepts and into it. Again, she says the Obi-Wan explains that "when that happened your father, the jedi...died" He does not disappear, as she says, when he dies like the other Jedi Qui-gon, Obi-wan, and yoda. Luke has to burn his body on the funeral pyre for him to appear with Yoda and Obi-wan. These were all her statements without me prodding or leading her any way. I just thought...damn, I got to give her SOME credit on this one. I still like the old way, but its not as bad now. Mostly the changes I hate is the cartoony stuff...like the Jedi rocks scene and the Jabba scene in ANH and the Greedo scene of course is retarded (all of which she agreed) and thats why I dislike so much of the PT b/c there is so many of those scenes...episode I is like the jedi rocks Music video expanded to 2 hours of VH1's behind the Music with Jar-Jar as the lead singer. Irritating. So glad to see all the posts to this thread. And yeah I love my girl. We get married in March!

Watching with my fiancee
Time
Well my girl got me the boxset and since I had some communications with Rikter and Magnolia, DVDs galore thanks to Rik and the edits thanks to Magnolia...I could show her all of it. She actually was really interested to see it and had no real knowledge of them (OT), just bits and pieces she had seen. She had seen Ep. I and II in the theatres. She watched the boxset first, then the edits (I and II), then the originals (anamorphic). Now I know what most of us think about the changes, because they have become gospel after 20-30 years. I was curious as to what she thought.

First off she loved the movies... A HUGE PLUS... for the woman I am marrying.

She didn't like the new jabba scene, really she didn't mind it, just the tail thing she though was stupid.
She didn't like the HAN-Greedo scene after she saw the original (that sets up his character she said its like if harrison ford had to wait to be cut by the sword guy in Indiana Jones before he shot him...good point)
She was indifferent on the Wampa. Leaned towards liking it. Liked the clouds through the windows.
She didn't like the little creature with jabba that laughs (which I find obnoxious too...unfortunately he's in all versions).
She really, really didn't like the terrible music and obnoxious CGI for the Jedi Rocks thing
She liked the Hayden thing as the ghost, I told her this is one of the most controversial changes. She said it makes more sense...this is never having heard a lucas explanation...she says that he didn't disappear like Obi-wan and Yoda when they died as Jedi. Further, she said, Obi-wan had stated in the talk with Luke in Degaboh that his father, the Jedi, did die when he turned to the dark side and was a jedi no longer. She said Luke had to burn darth before anakin arrived as a ghost. I was like damn. She's getting into this and you know, I couldn't argue that much. Maybe I repulsed b/c I hate Hayden or I love the originals so much, but philosophically I'll buy it. She liked the connections to the movies she had seen (I and II).
Lastly, she didn't mind the extended celebrations or change of song at the end of jedi.

She absolutely loved the edits of magnolia over the theatrical cuts...though and magnolia knows about these two things...the voices were a bit distracting and the swears by jar-jar she didn't like. Actually she too, hates jar-jar (more reasons to marry her).

This was interesting too, knowing general consensus about the OT. I said rate the movies for me. She gave A new Hope an 8.5/10, she said its like a good book, setting up the plot, though its not finished and still needs to go somewhere. Empire Strikes Back 10/10 She loved the twists...darth being the father...yoda saying there is another...the characters...the temptation, etc. She loved it. Lastly, she said the ewoks pulled ROTJ along with that Jedi rocks scene in Jabas palace. She like Luke, Darth and the Emperor and Darth coming through for Luke at the end. She thought luke doing the stuff with the saber on the sail barge was cool (and BTW she liked the beak thing, said it made the creature more scary and danger more imminent). She gave Jedi a 7.5/10

Whats funny is she put these in order that most do. I was so proud of her. She followed the plot, loves the movies and is interested to sit though documentaries. She actually watched THX 1138 with me last weekend and like the documentaries too. Umm, guys I think I lucked out on this one.
