oh here's something else...

Star Wars: Matters of the Force

Director: Cathy Bowden

Star Wars programming (aka Matters of the Force) will be blasting out of Docking Bay 94 in full force this year! We will be celebrating the movies, comics, books, gaming & more with interactive panels, costuming workshops, & trivia. Get geared up for our annual prop challenge, MSTK3, and costume contest.

We do regret that there will no longer be a charity auction and raffle due to new convention changes; however, there will be door prizes at every event!

On behalf of the Star Wars Fan Track, we thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing you at Dragon*Con!

For up-to-the-minute details on the panels and activities we have planned, visit the track web site at: www.dm.net/~sf-motf

Also, feel free to join our Yahoo Group at: groups.yahoo.com/group/motfjediroundtable. Chats are on Sunday nights – here we talk about the planning of the program track, changes, or just sit back to enjoy our Yoda Soda & Wookiee Cookies.

They'll also have stuff like this for LOTR, Matrix, Star Trek, Stragate, X-files/Millenium, etc.

Anyone going to dragon*con in September? I got bit by the convention bug at con carolinas and just booked a room for me and my wife to attend, I am trying to talk Rikter in to going, but I am curious to know wheather other OT.com members are going.

These guests are already signed up...Darth Maul people!!!...plus they'll be tons of panels, viewings, artwork, audio, fan meetings, and dealers for star wars. I am psyched personally for Firefly, I love the show and can't wait for the movie Sept. 30. The whole cast will be at the convention and maybe we'll get a screener, they've been screening the movie in major cities already.

Carl Cunningham
Carl is a writer and Internet publisher who runs StarWarsFan.Org, a popular Star Wars fan site that is home to "Prequel Watch," a well-known feature dedicated to the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

Daniel Logan
At the top of this young actors growing resume sits Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones, with the coveted role of Boba Fett, winning the part, out of 5,000 who tried out, after just one audition!

Ray Park
Ray Park portrayed the taciturn, but nimble villain Darth Maul in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace; he's also done stunt-double work in Sleepy Hollow and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

The more I read about the philosphy/underworkings of the movie to help me with my own edit, its maddening. Although some people says this about religion with contradictions or the difference between the PT and OT in though is like the Old testament and New Testament. Maybe Lucas expects us to have an unquestioning faith, but my mind works scientificly and lately I am driving myself nuts working on scripts that give more depth.

Midicholorians

I'd still like to hear more opions on the virgin birth, which is western and biblical. Though the choose your path, thing seems more Eastern. Does the virgin birth hold credibility to you that 1. The force/midicholorians created Anakin 2. Darth Plagueis mastered manipulation of the force and created a highly concentrated force being (the chosen one) in a poor slave that is visited by the angel and magi (jedi) 3. The Emperor killed his master stole this ability and decided to create something to carry out his will that ultimately leads to his own destruction as he created something more powerful than himself that can have a knowledge of the force greater than himself.

Further Why would the Emperor want Luke to turn to the dark side, this would break the rule of 2, I kknow this is not the case but it'd be interesting if Anakin killed the emperor so him and his son could rule. In reality in ROTJ it becomes the rule of zero. No more sith.

The chosen one
Time
Mebe, that was an awesome post and thanks again for the advice you're given me (I love the people on this board like MeBeJedi, Luke, Rikter, Trooperman, Magnolia, Darth Editous, Greencapt, Shimraa - Thought I'd give a shout out). Anyway, I've thought more and more about this balance concept and the chosen one. It seems like in the OT the idea of the force is it essentially in balance when there is peace and harmony (although those seems like light side of the force concepts and it is a Christian Wester Philosphy that fits well with the Son of Suns thing), which ties in well with the emperor/dooku/vader/maul/grievous being destroyed. So then Luke & Leia are jedis, And Han and Leia have Jedis and Anakin, Qui-Gonn (where's his ghost in the not just the PT, but the OT), Yoda, and Ben are all jedi spirits. So there's seems to be an unbalaced force if you consider the force to be light and dark and a yin-yang type Eastern Philosphy. All the Sith are dead. Further, I take it Sith are not following the correct path of the force because none of the sith can come back and be spirits (just anakin who returns to a jedi path). In the Eastern Philosphy there is balance at the end of ROTS with Obi-wan/Yoda vs. Darth Vader/Siddious. I believe the Campbell/pantheistic/ vague force notion to be more Eastern in philosphy with Balance. What are your thoughts?

Is anakin truly the chosen one? Lucas confirmed on the TPM audio commentary, that Anakin is indeed the Chosen One, and he brings balance to the Force by eradicating the Sith in ROTJ. Of course a number of other comment Lucas has made contradict this, so what do you think and what would you rather it be? Rik and I were talking about bringing balance to the force and the prophecy. Is this achieved indirectly by Anakin's seed being the New Hope of Luke and Leia? Or is it that he brings balance by destroying the Jedi and Leaving it two - two (yoda/obi-wan & Darth Vader/Siddious)?

best quality rips
Time
Sound Forge and acid do audio, yes, but they are sony products and can work well with Vegas, like Adobe has a suite of products...sony does the best with sound over all the suites and can do 5.1 soundfields, etc. Which is why I chose and it rated on par or above premiere as an NLE. As far as ripping an mpeg2 and and audio seperately is there not a way to rip both at the same time? Would it be better to use .VOB files. I have never done a rip to edit before so I don't know. I've done amateur films, thats it. Thanks for your help.

Well there's 2 from ROTO audio show - Ron and Janine Garner, A guy from Star Wars FanWorks audio recording, and 2 "educated" scholar of philospy and religion. The 3 audio people were all on the same boat with most here. Frustrated with Jar-Jar, the slapstick, and Roger-Rabbit feel of episode 1. Most thought the story arch was a good one. All loved the original, so it was question of the new ones. The scholoar were hardcore, blinded GL loyalists saying all he does is brilliant, ahead of the curve, and talking of joseph Campell and shakesperian tradgedy, etc. Most in there (the audience talked too) were still very angry at episode 1, except those 2 scholars. We all felt Ep. III was an improvement. But Ron mentioned the editing being jolting, like the scene were yoda get laser blasts and the jolted editing is throughout the film. We found it hard to believe Padme would die of a broken heart, having kids is enough a reason to live. The scholar said its tradgedy. We mentioned that some of the stuff in deleted scenes was great why? The scholars said time is important. True, but GL says with each deleted scene on DVD 1&2 that each scene was great and advnaced character or plot, so much of whats in does not. Delete other stuff it thats the case. LOTR ran 4hrs. If its good the audience will deal...It's star wars. If not release an extended edition for the fans, and make money for yourself. EVERYONE IN THE ROOM HATED JAR JAR! The girl said she hated that leia in ROTJ and padme in ROTS became weak, either a slave to Jabba or a slave to her room in coruscant. After being the warrior princess or something noble they both fade away and become minor. That was valid I thought. Overall people like that they're there but frustrated with all the details that don't add up and slap them in the face. We all agreed it not that were just picking it apart, because we wouldnt edit LOTR and this is more a matter of the 3rd Matrix that fell short. But after hearing a line in Saving Star Wars, I think its on the money. Star Wars is like pizza. When it is good it is good, when its bad its still pizza. I am glad they're out. I am going next weekend to Greenville, SC to see it for the third time, but the first on a digital projector. Thy're great...they could be better. But then again that's what edits are for.

I asked this in another post, but I thought I'd address this topic alone here. I am curoius to here thoughts on this. I know Magnolia edited it out and most hate the "immaculate conception", as did I. Though I read this from T-bonz' site...

Wrap your head around this. Was Darth Plagueis really Palpatine's master? Did Palpatine take the secret of Plagueis and have the midichlorians create life in the form of Anakin Skywalker? How does Palpatine know about Padmé and Anakin's dreams? The film answers NONE of these questions outright but gives us plenty of room to speculate.

It makes it not as lame. It becomes an evil Jesus kind of. The emeperor put life in the unsuspecting slave. This chosen one was visited by the angel (padme) and visited by the kings (jedi knights). He had more power than anyone in the universe and could do great good or evil. He was to be the ultimate evil, but had the ability to be the ulitmate good, ultimately he does bring balance to the force via the new hope of luke and leia. again, I'd love to hear some opinions

I had a blast at Con Carolinas. The guys at Star Wars Fan Works audio were there as well as the people that do Requiem of the Outcast show (ROTO). I saw "saving Star Wars", "Revelations "sins of the Jedi" and "the fall of a saga" Shaun O'rouke who did/starred in Sins of the jedi was there. Many cast/crewmembers of those films were there. I talked to all of them, as well Greg Keyes, the author of a number of NJO books. There was a cool panel on the final verdict of the PT. Basically lots of Star Wars going on, very cool. Everyone was so accessible. I got lots of filmaking/audio advice from those guys. Of course I told them all about OT.com

The other thing I am frustrated about in my edits is lucas already replaced that crappy puppet yoda from episode I with CG warming up for EP. III like 2 or 3 years ago. I am not sure if this will be in a PT boxset at Christmas or this will be pushed back to the HD releases in 2007. I've heard there is new masters to be released with the next additions of the film though I am not sure how much better they can be being digital and EP. II and III shot in HD (on II they used 24p and EP.III some new sony technology). I used an upscaling DVD player to 1080i with a reference HDMI cord last night and the film look as good as my 942 dish receiver with HD channels. I'm anxious to see how much better the picture can be (before it turns...gasp...3D in 2007, one year at a time releasing each episode, milking for more and more).

Cool I just found out at the Con they'll have fan films shows such as "sins of the jedi" "star wars revelations" "beyond star wars" & several discussion panels. I am interested in that New Jedi Order and look forward to getting some autographed copies from mr. Keyes.

I have not listened to the radio dramas or shadows of the empire.

I'll look into Tales from Jabba's Palace, Bounty Hunter Wars, and the Sarlaac Adventure (with the beak? )

I played through the Ep. III video game and there is a lot of pictures, cut scenes and stuff not in the movie in there. Sky Troopers with winged packs, Trooper Assissins (that can do matrix-like movement) and have blades on their elbows. There is a scene where Anakin impales the bitchy jedi librarian in the game (cool) oh and a turnabout scene where Anakin flips over Obi-Wan, impales him and kicks him down to the river of fire (styx?), he then has the emperor tell him "it is done, they will now rule the galaxy together", vade impales him and says he will rule the galaxy alone. Interesting. "Fliiping the script as they say".

The EU is fascinating at filling in gaps. What stories do you the boardmembers like best and give concrete background to the films in a tight way. I know Zahn's books are very popular, but if you could list ones you have read (books and comics), listened to, seen, played (that give story like in the case of KOTOR I and II). I am still thinking of reading more, adding more to my edits, and basically love star wars and want to further my knowledge without wasting my time. I am going to the Con Carolinas this weekend in Charlotte and will probably pick up some things. I'd love to get rips of some of the stuff from the video games movie footage and cut scenes like the movies games and the KOTORs, never heard of anyone having that on disc but it'd be cool. Thanks.
