Unless I'm mistaken, the laserdisc is already the theatrical edit of Star Wars Episode I. But a theatrical episode I with laserdisc-sourced DD 5.1 and isolated score would be great!

So yeah. Please help me finish this off so I can upload it for everyone.

IIRC, the only mix on this disc that is what it was actually labeled is the mono mix. The '70 mm mix' is actually the '93 DE remix, and the '35mm mix' is actually taken from the special widescreen edition, which is another remix, '85, I think. But it is very nice to have all those sound mixes on one disc.

Again, these are very nice discs and I do look forward to seeing the menu designs on the others once I get them downloaded. Great, great job!

I think there was a non-sub version of the making ofs on Rowman's extras discs.

There seemed to be music from Joker's Favor (w00t!), Heart of Ice (w00t!), and Feat of Clay (w00t!), among others. I don't have a clue how to get to them, though. It would seem that while a few boots exist, they are EXTREMELY rare, to the point of many thinking they don't exist.

As far as demonoid goes, well...I'm at the mercy of my Mom on that one. She wants to check it out before downloading anything. If that's a no-go, then I may be able to find someone at the JWFan trading board who has the stuff. Here's hoping.

Let me know what you have, klokwerk. Thanks for your help! Yeah, MOTP and Subzero are definitely worth just listening--and I am incredibly excited to find out that there is indeed a Subzero soundtrack!

Have you heard these soundtracks yet? Sometimes, these bootleg soundtracks, especially those at comics conventions, can be very flaky rips, with some sound effects and dialouge in the sound effects included,w hich would make it useless for your edit. I would be more likely to trust the demonoid torrent (plus its free and easy to get) than trying to find the guy at some comic convention with a bootleg CD for $40. Its easy to get burned by these guys.

Lucasfilm knows sites like this exist. I mean, OCPMovie got several newspaper articles written about Deleted Magic, and in some of them I think he mentioned his classic editions, and Lucasfilm didn't seem to care. Magnolia Fan had a fairly high profile as well, and didn't get Lucasfilm after him. So it seems like they've taken a pretty lenient position to fan editing and preservations, as long as you don't go out and sell them, etc...

I'll probably get flamed for saying this, but I didn't really like the Sci-Fi Channel era of MST3K. Pearl, Brain Guy and Bobo just weren't as engaging as Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank. Not to me anyway.

I agree. I always thought that Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank were much better.

Well, the last release was a problem either way. If it was a runaway success, Lucas would say it was because of the SE. If it failed, it was because nobody cares about the OOT. Either way, he gets to conclude that everyone loves changes, and nobody cares about the OOT.
It could be worse, though. I am also a fan of the Andy Griffith Show. On the season boxsets of that show, though, they have no extras, besides a few in-character commercials for one or two seasons. There has been numerous cast reunion specials, a made-for-TV movie, behind-the scenes documentaries, cast interviews, etc. for Andy Griffith Show. So there was no shortage of bonus materials. But they gave us absolutely nothing. So at least we got what we did. But yes, it would of been easy to have done much better than they did. And the LOTR series is a good example of how one should release a film series.

Nintendo Power was pretty crappy during the N64 and early Gamecube days. They barely even acknowledged that Nintendo even HAD competation back then.

That's weak. You beat the competition by making superior products and letting them speak for themselves, highlighting the differences. Not by ignoring it.

Nintendo Power is a Nintendo publication. So they aren't going to do anything that could be viewed in any light as promoting anything non-Nintendo. But Nintendo Power was never great. Even in the NES days it had problems and wasn't the best. They too often gave bad tips, bad codes, etc. But I do believe that it went down from the end of the SNES.

Its amazing how much things have changed. When the Definitive Edition was released on Laserdisc, it was an amazing set for its day. A commentary track even if it didn't run the entire movie, and the extras, were incredible for its day, when anything additional was pretty impressive. Today, we get the '04 DVD with trailers and Empire of Dreams, and a bad commentary track, not exactly 'nothing' but not very good, considering what it could of been. Subsequent releases didn't even give us that bonus disc. The PT gets a bonus disc for each movie, but the OT doesn't rate that much. Why not? Maybe we are spoiled with all these extras, but its not like Lucasfilm doesn't have loads of stuff that could be made into extras laying around. Some of the stuff that has come out of this board shows that. The common guess is that they were waiting until 'later' to release the bonus materials. Maybe they've decided that they've just gone to the well too many times, and have given up. I hope not. But as someone has said earlier, nowhere has anything been promised. It was just assumed by the fans because this is the 30th anniversary year. We'll see.

Never mind, I answered my own question. Yeah it would make sense... that's why they don't do it.

I'm guessing that they set these things up for the lowest common denominator. The idiot who knows nothing about sound systems whatsover, but thinks that 5.1 must be the best, even though they have a 2.0 system or mono. So they'll go in and change the sound output to 5.1 anyway, then return the disc, complaining its messed up. So a few foolish people ruin it for everyone else. Back in the laserdisc days, if you had a laserdisc, and a 5.1 system, odds are you knew what you were doing, so no need to remix the sound system.

It wouldn't hurt to ask if he didn't make a mistake, but I doubt he did. With the amount of stuff he has, he probably has two different copies of SPFX, and doesn't even realize it. It is looking like this thing may never surface.

Requiem for a Clone War dream... (2003 series) (* unfinished project * - lots of info)
Time
Here is the Wikipedia article
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asajj_ventress
Reading her story before the Clone Wars cartoon, she seems to have been briefly a jedi apprentice. So her green and blue lightsabers make sense. That, and it also could be assumed that she got the lightsabers from some other jedi who was killed in the clone wars or she killed at some point. I wouldn't think one would need to recolor the sabers some other color.

But for your edit, I personally wouldn't be too concerned about keeping EU continutity with Ventress. Do what you want to do with it, and if it contradicts something in the EU, oh well. It seems like to me that they've pretty much turned Ventress into someone who is "just too cool to die" like Boba Fett.

Info Wanted: Another audio mix thread
Time
Originally posted by: pittrek
Ehm, sorry for beginning another audio mix thread, but I am currently working on a big SW project and I need a few answers...

I am currently working on Episode V and Episode VI, so the first logical questions is : What sound mixes are on the 2006 "bonus" discs ? I've read they're the 1993 remixes. Is it the truth ?

The 2006 bonus disc used the 1993 remix. It was derived from the DE/Faces masters.

In 1985 the now very well known remix was done for Episode IV. But what about Episodes V and VI ? I could not find any info about their remixes. Any ideas if they actually exist ? And if they do, were they captured on some bootleg ?

There were remixes, for both of these, in 1993, and I think earlier as well. I don't really know exactly when, though. The initial releases of the laserdiscs have the theatrical sound mixes. The problem will be that ESB had two different sound mixes, the 35mm and the 70mm, with some dialouge changes. It isn't really available anywere. However, the 2004 DVD mix used the 70mm as the basis for their sound mix, and a reconstruction of the audio mix is theoretically possible assuming that it has all the changes, I believe, but would be pretty hard.

I am asking these weird questions, because my Episode IV (which I plan to finish today) has all 3 theatrical mixes, plus the 1985 remix, plus the 1993 remix and I would like to do something similar with the rest.

Also a slightly different question - the TV premiere of Episode IV in 1984 had a unique intro and outro, both by Mark Hamill. What sound mix was used during this airing ? Or is THIS the TV version which included a mono version of the theatrical stereo mix ?

Good luck with your version of Star Wars. I would love to have a copy when you get finished if its possible. I've always thought that there should be a version that had multiple sound mixes in it. I don't believe that the 70mm mix is available either, outside a cassette recording of the mix that someone posted here a while ago. But there isn't any real audio differences between the 35mm and 70mm anyway, besides the additional LFE channels for the 70mm.

As for the 1984 airing, I know it wasn't the mono mix. The mono mix was aired in the UK at least once, but never in the States.

I don't know if it would work, but changing Grevious's eyes to match Maul's would be best. Perhaps some dialouge during the Obi-Wan/Grevious fight with Grevious mocking Obi-Wan for not killing him in TPM would work. Ideally, Obi-Wan would be suprised that Maul is still alive. Don't know if this is possible, though. One thing that would be good would be to get rid of Greivous's Russian-sounding accent and have his voice match Maul's more closely.
Something, though that maybe ought to be considered is why is Maul being kept around if he is alive? Unless you are editing out the whole bit about only being two sith lords at once, wouldn't Maul be a threat to Dooku's position and therefore rivals? I don't know if one can work it in, but imply that Dooku has no idea who Grevious really is, and when Grevious talks to Sidious after Dooku is killed, Grevious is glad to have his rival gone and he thinks he has been restored to the position of sith apprentice, not knowing he is still just being used.

Look at the Galactic Trade Federation website. - http://homepage.ntlworld.com/russdawson/gtf/

He has information for most all the major DVD transfers of the trilogy, including the '97 SE. Personally, I'm partial to the Dark Jedi's set. I think you can torrent this from MySpleen. There are much fewer choices for the '97SE than the OOT.
