IMDB Daily Poll (11/3/05)
Time
Why are they bothering making sequels to some of these movies? Garfield 2? The Grudge 2? Rocky VI? Is Hollywood trying to make bombs? And they wonder why Box Office revenues are going down. With some of these sequels, maybe Hollywood figures piracy will go down if they make movies so bad, nobody will want to copy them.
There are some movies that look like they can be good, like Pirates of the Carribean- Dead Man's Chest, Superman, Ice Age 2, and X-Men. So next year does have some hope.

Movie production updates for Terminator 4 And Star Trek XI
Time
I agree. Terminator 3 has already destroyed everything that was good about the terminator movies. I don't see how a fourth can do any good. Leave it at 2, and pretend three never happened. That way you have an abigous ending, and the hope that 2 gave for the future. Otherwise, all the actions of the first two are almost pointless.
As for Star Trek 11, it depends on what cast they go with. If they do Star Trek: Enterprise as the cast, it will bomb. That show had few fans, even amoung the hardest-core of trekkies. Another Next-Generation movie can work, if you could get the cast back, but I think that they have all said they are through with Star Trek. So the only way to make it any good, that I can think of, would be a Voyager movie. Honestly, I never really got into DS9, and so I can't really comment on a DS9 movie.

A bit more then a few years ago, I saw Grant Goodeve (the oldest son "David" from "Eight Is Enough") on some paid religious advert telling us how evil rock and pop music was. I wish I still had a VHS of that (I did for a bit), but in all the moving around I have done it's long gone.

THX-1138

Was this "Hells Bells" I think it was called. I remember seeing something like this at church once, that talked about how all this rock music (mostly late 80s heavy metal rock, Ozzy and the other usuals) had satanic messages in it, mostly when played backwards.

Prequel total rewrites...?
Time
I agree with eros. Too many "cool looking" throwaway villians, like Maul, Count Dooku, and General Grevious. There should of been only one throughout the prequels, and Dooku would of been the best choice.

EDIT:
OK, to answer the question given, as a general outline of what I would think would be better, stick with the prequel story, but no Jar-Jar, no Darth Maul, No Grevious. Dooku takes Maul's place in TPM, but Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan doesn't know its him, maybe he has a disguise. Its "Darth Tyrannus". Dooku appears in AOTC, and at the end, you find out he is Tyrannus. Make him being sith less obvious. Perhaps throw in a red herring character to help the mystery along. Vader in the suit destroys the Jedi, which would move up the Obi-Wan/Vader fight as well. Vader/Palpatine thinks they destroyed Yoda and Obi-Wan, so you don't have the question of why don't they go after the two most powerful Jedi around. Just a general train of thought on it.

More DVD Sets Coming
Time
I would love to see more materials, but I wonder how much of it would be prequel trilogy. It seems like they love releasing that, but not much from the OT. Each DVD release got a bonus disc, but the entire official OT on DVD only got one disc. So if they do, I hope that they would get more generous with the ot materials. But maybe it is like someone said once, that if they release too much, it shows Lucas's many contradictions, so much of it will never see the light of day. But I also agree that LOTR was a good example of what to do with a trilogy. Peter Jackson and company has been very generous with materials there, and they released the original theatrial release and the extended editions both. Unlike another trilogy...

Wanted: Lapti Nek: Club & Dub mixes

I think these were both on the Editdroid ROTJ disc as DVD-ROM content. These are available on myspleen as a torrent, if memory serves.

EDIT: I think there was a link to the ROTJ DVD-ROM content in the Editdroid thread in the Star Wars Fan Preservations and Edits forum as a ZIP file. I don't know if it is still a valid link or not, but it should be in there.

Your favorite Hollywood excuse for 2005's crappy box office returns

1) Cut matinee prices in half and expect greater than a 100% increase in ticket buyers.
2) Enforce age minimums for non-children's films.
3) Kick out families with disruptive children and kick out anybody who takes a phone call during the film.
4) Make 2-for-1 "Date Deals" for non-peak evenings like Monday and Tuesday.
5) Offer free tickets for parents who bring 1 or more children to a children's movie.
6) Cut the price of concessions. $6.75 for a regular hot dog and a soda is ridiculous. $4.50 for popcorn is insane. Offer a better selection at a reasonable price.

If theater owners did this, would you be more likely to attend? Feel free to copy these suggestions verbatim and send them to your local theater. I'm gonna do that myself.

One to add: Get rid of the TV commercials before the movie starts. Having to sit through endless trailers was ok, because at least it was movie-related. But tacking on a bunch of commercials for Coca-Cola, cars, deodorant, etc, is too much. The movie doesn't actually start until 30-40 minutes after the listed start time.

The Marx Brothers
Time
The Marx Brothers are great. My personal favorite movie was Horse Feathers, where they are at the college. His song on that "Whatever it is, I'm against it" was hilarious. And Groucho's lecture in the classroom with Chico and Harpo was also great.
Another great bit of theirs was the "crowded stateroom", where all those people were in the stateroom on the cruise ship. I forget what movie that was, through.

Anyone ever watch "You Bet Your Life" with Groucho? That was a good show. It was a game show, but most of it was Groucho interviewing the contestants to try to get them to "say the secret word". Of course wisecracks abounded. Several episodes can usually be found in the bargain DVD bin at Wal-Mart or some other like store.

Help Wanted: WWII style edit of ANH - I need a title for this!
Time
Nothing major, but I might change the line "Still hungry for Empire, the early V2 program evolved into immense war machines, and from these spaceships they colonised and ruled the galaxy.
With an iron fist, they maintained a relative peace for Millennia, rulling the entire world and expanding their conquest." to

"Still hungry for expansion, the early V2 program evolved into immense war machines, and from these spaceships they colonised and ruled the galaxy.
With an iron fist, they maintained a relative peace for Millennia, further expanding their conquests to the entire galaxy.

It just sounds a bit better and makes more sense that way.

Superman Movie
Time
I want this movie to suceed, just because it has been so long since we've seen a Superman movie, and if it fails, I'm afraid it will be another long wait until they try again. But the time frame does have me worried that it will be a bomb, or at least confusing to the average moviegoer. Most won't really remember the previous series, or for the younger "smallville" crowd, may never have seen it.
The only good thing I can think of out of this is it does solve a problem of superhero/comic book movies have, and that is over half the film is dedicated to creating the hero/backstory stuff, and therefore leaves little time for the actual movie.

It really wouldn't surprise me if Jackson had filmed everything just so he could do this later release.

He'll probably get Lucas to help him "finish" his films with badly placed CGI characters. Hey, it worked for the SE.

what made Jango so special?
Time
A bunch of force-using storm troopers wouldn't be a good thing for anyone. Too hard to control. The Emperor had enough trouble keeping Vader in line. Imagine an army of people that all want to take over and rule themselves. Also, IIRC, in the Thrawn Trilogy, wasn't there the clone jedi, Joruus, and being a cloned jedi made him insane? An army of insane jedi who all want to take over would be worse.

Plus, Jango was supposed to have been the best bounty hunter in the galaxy.

I have seen the Holiday Special!
Time
I've seen a version with commercials on P2P networks that has original commercials. It is an .AVI or something like that. As for a quality DVD release with original commercials, I don't know of one. There are several different copies of the Holdiay Special, from VHS copies when the show first aired, and therefore no one real set of "original commericals" because it would depend on the particular TV station that aired the show as to what the commercials would be. If you want a cleaned up copy of it, the best one is supposed to be from Rikter, the "KCCI version" that is reported to be from a broadcast tape. The only commercials included is a kenner toy commercial that did air with the show.

EDIT: Missed the reply from Russs15 above. Apparently there is a DVD version with the commercials left in. There are several different copies of this floating around, of various qualities.
