The Things We Hate And Love Thread .
Time
I think that Kidder was a bad choice to play Lois Lane. Karen Allen would of been better. But would she have been old enough in time for the first movie. Of course, Lois Lane seems to always be cast with odd people. See the original TV show, with Noel Neill? She made a great Lois Lane, but not exactly a knockout.
Yes, the Superman series had gone downhill pretty quickly at 3. But my point was one of the major problems (OK, there were plenty of them) was that Christopher Reeve had been given control over it, and he turned it into an anti-nuclear political statement instead of an action/adventure movie. In comparison, Alan Alda's changes in M*A*S*H wasn't anywere near as bad.

ROTS Extras: CGI TPM Yoda
Time
CGI has made Lucas not try as hard on aspects as the storyline, but I think another aspect of it is that he has basically bought into his own "greatness" hype. He seems to feel he needs to listen to the actors/directors/other production people less, because if he came up with it, it has to be good. Combine this with a surrounding of the same "yes" people, and you have a show driven by only one person. If ESB was made today, I doubt we would hear the famous lines:
Leia: I love you
Han: I know

Lucas doesn't tolerate changes to "his vision" like he once did. The movies are weaker as a result.

Superman II and Superman III extended (Released)

it was a two disc set I believe.

It is going for way too much money on the secondary market,

an it can't be bought officialy any more so why not include it in the extended fan set of superman 1-4?

What does the extended cut add? I haven't seen this movie in years, but I hope the extended version would improve it.

Info: Does Anyone Have The Old Original Theater Bootleg '77 Tape? (Released)
Time
I just got this in the mail today and can pay-it-forward to a few people if anyone else needs it. Interesting set. The poor quality of the source actually is a bit appealing for me. It kinda reminds me of my long-time copy of Star Wars, which was a VHS copy off of a TV airing. When I get the stuff to actually make transfer to DVD, I'll have to find that copy and make it into a DVD.

How exactly do the Sith stop death?
Time
He didn't know how to do it. He promised Anakin to stop Padme's death. But once Anakin turned darkside and wanted to collect on the promise, Palpatine immediately says he can't do it, but together they can figure it. I think it is a line to keep the apprentice in line. If the apprentice eventually wants to kill the master, the best way for the master to stay alive is for the apprentice to think there is "something more" to learn. Once they learned it all, the master is no longer needed. So if the master has the apprentice working with him on something immpossible, they are more likely to put off killing the master. Maybe Palpatine thinks its possible, because his master told him/tricked him into thinking he could stop death. But more likely, he knows its a lie, probably one he fell for, and he is just passing it along because he needs to keep stringing Anakin along.

Prequel total rewrites...?

I thought the prequels did a fair job of explaining why Vader served Palpatine for 20+ years. Palpatine was a sort of father-figure to Anakin. He always fed his already huge ego, and told him what he wanted to hear. Obi-Wan told him what he needed to hear, but Anakin didn't like that, so he ended up going with Palpatine and dark side. After the Jedi are gone/empire in power, Palpatine is all Vader/Anakin has left. At least until Luke shows up, and then Vader finally starts to turn on him.

I didn't mind the Yoda in the PT. It does give him credibility. Otherwise, it seems like Yoda was some minor jedi hack who gets to train Luke only because there is no one else available. Just because he was head of the Jedi 20+ years ago, doesn't mean anyone still knows who he is by ESB.

As for more Dark Jedi to hide the Vader killed your father line, there were already too many secondary villians. Maybe have a secondary apprentice for Obi-Wan in Sith (after Anakin graduates to full jedi) who seems more likely to become Vader? Maybe he is jealous of Anakin or something. It would take real work to preserve all the secrets, even with a massive re-write. Ultimately, chronological order isn't the best to view it in.
