The Cowclops Transfers (a.k.a. the PCM audio DVD's, Row47 set) Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time
I guess it this stuff should be coming down soon once the O-OT is available officially. But take everything with a grain of salt. Lucas has always been good at messing stuff like this up. So until it comes out and it is confirmed to be the originals, and a decent transfer (no changes, no stupid mistakes such as Luke's saber on the falcon, no audio mix mistakes) I wouldn't stop the preservation efforts just yet.

.: The XØ Project - Laserdisc on Steroids :. (SEE FIRST POST FOR UPDATES) (* unfinished project *)
Time
As said before, I hope that the XO project doesn't just close down. Maybe it needs to go off in a different direction, though.
I'm happy about the O-OT coming out on DVD, but from the sounds of it, Lucas is doing his own transfer from Laserdiscs, even if it is the masters. After seeing how things went for the '04 DVDs, Lucasfilm is good at messing things up, such as-will Luke's lightsaber be the right color on the falcon, etc. Also, will they do anything for it as far as cleaning it up, or will it just be a straight transfer from LD, which, as others have said, usually doesn't produce great results, especially if this is just some slopply-done rush job to have yet another release. This may be the best thing we've seen, or it could be something that isn't even as good as some of the fan preservations.
Also, I would love to see a release with some of the different sound mixes on it, such as:
Star Wars:
Dolby Surround
Mono Mix
ESB:
35mm
70mm
I don't remember off the top of my head if ROTJ had any differences in the various sound mixes.

ORIGINAL STAR WARS TRILOGY OUT 09/2006 BY LUCASFILM
Time
The USA Today article says they will be $30 each, but hopefully considering how DVDs are usually priced and then sold at, they will sell at $15-$20 each. Now my question is why a 2 disc set? If I read correctly, the DVDs will have the O-OT, and then a second disc that has the '04 SSE DVDs. Why? Why not restore the old making ofs or something? some sort of bonus disc?
Why are they continually repackaging the '04 SSEs? Did they print up so many of them, that they have cases of them sitting in some warehouse that they are desperate to get rid of? I mean, first the '04 boxset with bonus disc, then the '05 boxest with no bonus disc, but the same exact films, now the O-OT with the '04 SSE discs. Maybe this is more of an inventory-clearing measure...

Now I'm just hoping that is looks better than I'm afraid it might be. I'm not going to buy it if my DE laserdisc set is better or equal quality.
But I'm still happy to have these out on DVD.

The Official 2006 Discs Will Be No Better Than What We Have!
Time
Hopefully these discs will be better than the fan preservations, being taken directly off the masters at least, and not a Laserdisc copy. Since it sounds like any hope for a release of the various sound mixes (mono, 35mm, 70mm) won't happen. Perhaps someone here could use these discs as a basis for a fan preservation release that would have these various sound mixes in them. On this note, as said before, the Dolby Surround 2.0 mix is great, but why not also include a 5.1 track based off the 6 channel maxtrixed mix? Is it that hard to do?
As said before, I'm now a bit worried about these releases, but its better than nothing, I guess. A boycott of these releases would not be productive, IMHO. It would only end in Lucasfilm coming back and saying that they were right, and nobody wants the O-OT, and everyone loves the changes, so giving the green light to more changes in a future blu-ray/HD-DVD release.

And btw, I appreciate you believe me. The REAL problem is getting everyone else to believe me... The timing was pretty shitty though huh, he left in February and I came in April.

I will say that I actually doubt you are AWK, because the other characteristic of AWK was starting fights, and you haven't done that yet. I don't think AWK would of lasted as long as you have and resisted the urge to argue. So yes, the timing was bad, and the high post counts look bad as well. But anyway, welcome aboard and I hope you enjoy your time here.

I didn't really read all of the Jedi Academy trilogy of books, not really liking it, but IIRC, there was a sith soul in the temple at Yavin. But I thought that he was not a spirit in the same sense as a Jedi spirit (Obi-Wan, Yoda, Anakin) He was more along the lines of the undead. I think he wasn't really quite dead, but he trapped his soul in the temple before his body died. He can't really leave the temple. Obi-Wan, etc could go anywere they wanted to go. I would suspect that other sith would fall along the same lines.

Nintendo Wii
Time
Nintendo was the only company to make money off video games this generation, I think. They were the only ones who sold their systems at a profit. Xbox and Playstations are sold at a loss. That is one I don't understand, except that Nintendo knows video games better than Sony and Microsoft. I personally like the WII/Revolution, even if I think the name is really stupid. It is the only revolutionary system around, and not just better graphics. Nintendo is the only system coming out that really interests me. And no, I'm not a Nintendo fanboy. I usually hate Nintendo and their stuff, being an Atari fan, but I have to give them credit and like theredbaron said, this might be the first Nintendo system I buy, at least new.

Just because the name "revolution" can't be pronounced in Japanese doesn't mean that they couldn't still call it that here in the states and/or Europe, and Wii in Japan/East Asia. It wouldn't be the first time that consoles had different names in different markets. Remember Famicom/NES, Super Famicom/Super NES, and PC Engine/Turbo Graphix 16? OK, the last one wasn't a Nintendo product, but still, you could come up with an alternate name that sounds good outside of Japan. Even if Japan is the main market, the US/European markets aren't peanuts.

Besides the stupid name, I do like the innovativeness of the console, and am hoping that it does well.

After reading that page, all I can say is that Mace Windu fucking sucks.

I don't know exctly whas this is the only thing that is sticking out in my mind. But talking about the fight sequence between him and the Emperor....I hate Mace Windu. When he was killed I felt nothing. Now I just feel embarassment because he is quite possibly the most lame character with the worst death. Tops Boba Fetts death by 20%.

Anyway, slight derail.

Samuel L. Jackson really did screw up good in the PT. He's normally a good actor though...

PS, this is my first post! I used to lurk around here, but stopped for a while, then I got bored and was like "Oh ya, OT!", so I'm posting now.

Well, some of it wasn't just Samuel L. Jackson's fault. The character of Mace itself was very poorly written. I was actually rooting for Sidious to take out Mace just so the PT would finally be rid of him. The character seemed to me to be badly placed and the movies could of easly been written to take him out and he would never be missed.

Star Wars books and summer sunsets
Time
The best of the Star wars EU books was Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy. It takes place a few years after ROTJ and has some new villians, the Grand Admiral Thrawn, who has taken over the Imperial fleet, and Joruus C'baoth, an insane jedi who I think was light-side with dark elements. Written before the prequels, so elements of it now contradict the prequels, specifically what the clone wars were about, but I actually think the book had a better idea that ROTS. but it doesn't talk too much about them, so they are easly overlooked if you are really into everything fitting together and not contridicting. Other than that, Shadows of the Empire is OK, but I really hated the villian and thought that the ideas of the book wasn't very good. Not much else in the EU I really liked, though. I sort of stopped reading them after I couldn't get into the Jedi Academy Trilogy.

#1 on the list doesn't exactly have the biggest cup size. Not to say that there is anything wrong with Keira Knightley.

But the thread has slowed down a bit.

An exact quote from Lucas on Greedo shooting first.
Time

UGO: So you were there; who shot first, Han Solo or Greedo?

MH: [Laughs] I always thought that it was the alien. But George [Lucas] keeps going back and tweaking these things. I don't even know anymore. I do know that they dubbed a scream when I let go in the second movie. Which was funny because [Irvin] Kershner and I discussed it, but basically Luke is committing suicide. Rather than join [Darth] Vader, he let go in a very calm way. So, he ended up dubbing a scream. He didn't tell me. He didn't have me do the scream. I don't know where he got it. Maybe it was from the library of sounds that I made for him, but I haven't double checked that, but you could tell me. Do I scream on the way down?

UGO: Why would you?

MH: That's what I say.
- Mark Hamill

For better news for Mark Hamill, didn't they get rid of the scream for the SSE DVDs?
