Info Wanted: Legal implications of the OOT DVDs
Time
vbangle is right. There is a certain period of time that copyrights are supposed to expire. Its just that the goverment keeps extending that period of time, so that that time never comes. Some things have expired, because the original copyright holders didn't renew/extend them. Go to Wal-Mart/K-Mart/Target or whatever discount department store is in your area, and see the bargin bin of DVDs/videos. They are full of old movies that weren't published by their original copyright holders, because they are now in public domain.

.: The XØ Project - Laserdisc on Steroids :. (SEE FIRST POST FOR UPDATES) (* unfinished project *)
Time
I think that the XO project may become more important, with the upcoming release, if for nothing else but to show what Lucasfilm should of done. From the news coming out, I'm starting to get worried that this may be a spite release, even though at first I thought that would be impossible. So the XO project could produce a much better video.

New DVDs NOT 16x9
Time
I really hope that this non-anamorphic thing isn't true. Otherwise, I'm starting to worry that this may actually be a "spite release" and that Lucas will make sure that every hint of a matte line or anything else will stick out like a sore thumb, just so they can turn around and say how much better their "improved" releases are.

The Official 2006 Discs Will Be No Better Than What We Have!

I've heard stuff of this type before, and it still doesn't make sense. How can there not be a restored O-OT, but we have a restored SE? I would think that it would make the most sense if Lucasfilm restored the O-OT, then did the SE based off of that, not do the SE, then restore that. Its the only way things make sense.
I think there is a certain distain for the O-OT with Lucasfilm. Lucas has already said he only considers the '04 SSE's to be "official".

ITS HAPPENED-- OOT AVAILABLE FROM LUCASFILM
Time
Turnip: I doubt you'll get too many flames. I don't think that Lucas should have modified his works, but he wanted to, so thats fine. I personally wouldn't care if he digitally made every character a gungan, and replaced Luke with Jar-Jar. As long as the originals are available too. I think that you'll find this is a common view here. No matter, we are all happy that the originals are coming to DVD as a result, and may finally limit some of the SE vs. O-OT debate.

Yes, that is the one I remember too, and would be very upset not to have it. Its just that there were several audio differences in the 70mm 6 channel matrixed mix, and I'd love to have those available on this release as an alternate audio track.

Hey, I'm a hard-core Atari fan. 2600 all the way!!!
I don't like Nintendo, because of their anti-trust business practices of the past that forced great systems of the past such as the Sega Master System, TG16, and Atari Lynx out of the market. So no, I'm not a Nintendo fan.
I do, however, actually have a Gameboy Advance, and a Super Nintendo packed away somewere, that was a gift. So no, I haven't missed out on the last 20 years. I just don't like Nintendo personally.

The 4.1 mix out of the 6 channel matrix arguments makes sense. I guess I didn't know exactly what channels the 6 channel matrixed mix were. Its not that I was wanting a 5.1 mix just to have 5.1, but something that has the 70mm track sound mix. Especially for ESB, where there are some major audio differences. I think the 70mm/35mm mix for SW was the same, and I don't remember what they did for ROTJ.
