iPod Question
Time
IIRC, iPods aren't supposed to be able to get files off the iPod once its on there. You are supposed to use iTunes and sync up the iPod to the computer, and not need to get files off the iPod once they are there. You can do it, however, with other software that people wrote. I don't know any program names, but a google search should produce results.

I hate the idea of them making a sequel to Superman Returns.
I hate the fact that there might not be a sequel: I want them to have another go and at getting it right, and I don't want to wait another 20 years for a superman movie.

Amen Brother.

I hate the fact that they couldn't do a seperate Superman movie, but had to do a 'semi-sequel' to Superman 2, and include some lame plot points such as Superman having a son. But I agree that it is even worse that it might be years until someone tries again with Superman. It seems like everyone has Superman written off as a superhero type that nobody likes anymore, so we need more embittered anti-heros.

I personally have to agree with Sean on this one. Trouble With Tribbles was great. But City on the Edge of Forever was good too, and either one would be a great choice. I think it kinda depends on who is selecting 'the greatest episode'. Is it a viewer vote, cast/crew/writers/'experts' or just some programming executive?

General Batman Talk

Changing the story from the comic books doesn't need to mess up the movie. In some ways, it makes it better. Batman Returns version of the Penguin was much better than if they had tried to do a comic version of the Penguin. The thing about contiunity is that most of the movie going public doesn't really know much about it or care. The extent of their knowledge of Batman comes from things like the 60's tv show. They know Batman is Bruce Wayne, who Comissioner Gordon is, and the major villians, and that is about it. I remember that when the 1st Batman came out, I had a friend that wondered why they didn't include Police Chief O'Hara or have the poles to the batcave where Bruce Wayne can put on the batsuit mid-drop, all elements of the tv show, that as far as I know, weren't in the comics.

Pluto is no longer a planet

Xena got her own planet? What is next, Hercules and the rest of the regular cast of Xena, warrior princess? Cool!

Seriously, I guess that is something else for kids to memorize in 3rd grade science class: 8 regular planets, and then the 3 dwarf planets.

O-OT Star Wars "Bonus Disc" menus (www.starwars.com)

Alas, there is no screen capture because Lucasfilm seems to have forbidden the french press to do so.

For new movies coming out, when a studio refuses to allow critics to preview the film, it usually means that the studio knows that the movie sucks. So they don't allow any previews in hopes to trick people into seeing before they hear that its bad. I'm afraid that its a similar thing going on here. Lucas knows that the quality is substandard, so he won't allow anyone to see screenshots or clips it before the release, to keep people wanting them. Then he has the fallback of "its bonus material" when people complain.

I like the menus, at least. Yes, they look like editdroid/rowman's extras, but I liked those menus too.
As for the quality issue, I'm not suprised. I hoped they would look good, but I don't think that will happen. Lucas doesn't care about this release. Its just a gimmick for marketing purposes. Its a quick and cheap laserdisc rip, that was poorly done. I was hoping it would be good, but it is sounding like some of the fan preservations is better quality. its too bad.

Info: article on censoring Tom And Jerry
Time
This isn't the first time these old cartoons have been edited. Some Tom & Jerry cartoons, as well as others from this era, have some stuff that is considered racist by todays standards, and you seldom see those segments on the air anymore. And they have basically buried Speedy Gonzales for the same reason. Even though the anti-smoking stuff seems a bit silly, in my opinion.

I agree with Magnolia Fan. It is your call. Personally, until they came out with the PT, I never really noticed the episode numbers. The only thing about making it episode III is that unless you are going to do something with SW and ESB, you have III-ROTJ, IV-Star Wars, and then V-ESB.

Was there an ESB arcade game?
Time
Ballblaster was pretty good. Some other good additions to the Lucasarts greatest hits would be the space/flight sims of the late 80's-early 90's they had. Anyone here ever play X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Their Finest Hour:The Battle of Britian, or Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe? They were the best in the genre back in the day.

While commenting on the Falcon's cockpit being in the middle of the plane, In that game, your lasers can shoot down probe droid transmissions. I didn't know that transmissions were something that you could shoot down.

Hyperspace: Yep, I Think that Something is DEFINITELY up for '07!
Time
I remember that when there was the flurry of posts right after the upcoming original unaltered trilogy release that there were reports that the O-OT had been professionally restored, before Lucasfilm announced that it was going to be a rip of the old DE laserdisc master. Maybe the upcoming super-duper deluxe special archive saga boxset will have this restored version. One can hope.

Of course, while I hoping, I'd love to see the deleted ESB and ROTJ scenes, and restored versions of the original documentaries. But since I don't think that any of these will happen, I'll just go back to hoping for the O-OT in a decent format.

Just because people confess don't mean they did it. There are lots of crackpots out there who confess to crimes they could never of committed, for various reasons. We'll have to see how things develop and what the evidence says. But I'm glad to hear that the police hadn't just given up on it and were still trying. After 10 years, its easy to just let it go and forget about it.
