2007 Star Wars calendar - with DVD (?)
Time
Originally posted by: joltman
I saw this calendar yesterday at a calendar stand in the mall. However, it didn't say a DVD with behind the scenes footage inside, it said DVD-ROM inside with the 12 calendar images. Is there going to be different version, one with DVD-ROM and one with DVD Video? Has anyone seen the one with DVD Video in person yet?

Maybe the picture at the beginning of the thread is some sort of prototype/proof of concept picture, and not the final production product, that ended up with a DVD-ROM, and not a video.

This person added Qui-Gon into the end of Return of the Jedi as a force ghost.

heh though it's kinda nice to see quigon a force ghost. He should have been one in Rots in some form instead of just a crap audio taken and filterred in Attack of the clones that sounds like like a muppet or some shit.

Qui-Gon as a force ghost in ROTS would of been much better, and actually fit with the story. But according to rumor, Lucas and Liam Neeson had a falling out, and Neeson refused to come back, or he wanted too much money or something, and so thats why they were stuck with the audip clip from TPM.

Info: 2006 GOUT DVD using 'Faces' PCM Sound?
Time
LeoneNut has a point. Nobody has ever put the 70mm mix of ESB on a disc. I know that the 70mm mix isn't available to us, but how hard would it be to re-create this mix, or something similar? Is all/most of the differences available? I don't know what all the differences are, but there has to be a list somewere. I know that some other differences are the voice on Hoth that says "the first transport is away" is a different actor, rumored to be Mark Hamill, and the now infamous "you were lucky to get out of there" to R2 on Dagobah instead of "You were lucky you don't taste very good" was from this mix. There were some other stuff that was from alternate takes as well. I don't know how much of the differences are actually available, though. Jambre Davar's Building Empire has quite a bit of stuff as well.

I thought the Emperor pic must have been a fan in a rubber mask, as it did not look enough like the Emperor in ROTJ.

Everyone talks about the Anakin at the end of ROTJ, but it seems like the new emperor in ESB is forgotten about. Why did they do such a lousy job with him? Did the make-up artist ever even see ROTJ? The emperor in the new ESB scene (and ROTS) looks nothing like he does in ROTJ.

Okay, regarding Jedi Jumping: The Jedi in the prequels have been trained since children to use the Force. Luke has been only given a few years and has had to figure a lot out on his own. It makes perfect since that we only see him doing the occasional flip. As for Obi-wan and Vader, they were in the confined corridors of the Death Star. Not much room to "jump as high as mountains" there.

I agree that Obi-Wan/Vader/ and Luke/Vader/Emperor in the Death Star didn't have the room to jump as much as the prequel jedi, and starts to explain the differences. But I have a problem with the explanation of "Luke wasn't as well-trained as a prequel-era jedi". If Luke wasn't trained well, then why did Yoda/Obi-Wan constantly insist that he go off and face Vader and the Emperor. Did they want him to get killed? I mean, Yoda in the end couldn't beat Palpatine. So if Yoda knew that Luke wasn't trained well and therefore wasn't really at the same level as Vader/Emperor, then why send him on a suicide mission?

FWIW: I think that the Best Buy exclusive DVD was taken from one of the two Raiders documentaries, either Making of Raiders of the Lost Ark or Great Movie Stunts: Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Actually, the Pope was quoting a medieval-era Byzantine Emperor, in a speech about the problems with wars in the name of relgion.
It is sort of ironic that some people in the middle east are burning down Christian churches, vandalizing others, go out and storm the houses of the local christian population and beat them up, and someone killed a nun in Somalia, all because they are mad that the pope quoted someone centuries before said their religion is violent.

I haven't heard that, but that doesn't mean that they didn't change something about them. If they redid anything, it wasn't much.

Seriously, though, who debuts a freakin kids show at TEN AM Saturday morning!? Kids don't watch TV on Saturday morning--they SLEEP! And why didn't Cartoon Network pick these up?

Have things changed so much since I was a kid? I was always up early to watch Saturday Morning cartoons. Of course, most Saturday morning cartoons anymore are just reruns of Disney Channel/Nickelodeon cartoons, and not much new, original programming.

No, its ok. Its just that two of the people who were involved in this discussion became infamous around here for some things they did and were banned. Seeing their names pop up again concerned us. lol
But back on topic, you do have a point. How did Leia know who Ben Kenobi was?

2007 Banner Year for DVDs! GO TIGER!
Time
These are movie stills. The Star Wars 'Faces' release has Luke, Leia, Han, etc on the back, but only in movie stills as well. I'm not a copyright expert, but I'm guessing there is a legal difference between showing stills from the film on the back, and using photo images on the front. Of the people on the Superman III cover, Christopher Reeves is basically too important not to include, especially when you are talking in terms of the entire film series, and the others except Robert Vaughn aren't that famous. Richard Pryor's estate probably wanted quite a bit for his image, so WB decided that it wasn't worth it for only one film.

Richard Pryor, who was essentially the main character was cut!

Could it be that they didn't want to pay/couldn't afford the royalties for using Richard Pryor's image for Superman III materials. This was supposed to be the reason the final Star Wars OOT 'Faces' Release had Vader, a Stormtrooper, and Yoda on it and not Luke, Leia, etc. So they wouldn't have to pay royalties to anyone.

I've also heard that they took out a part where you can see the track briefly that the boulder rolls down. I personally haven't looked for it, but I think its something you have to really be looking hard and slow the film down to see it. Nothing that was that big of a deal.
As for the documentaries, I don't know why they didn't include them. But thanks to some people on this board, they are available. I've always thought that the classic documentaries were better than the new documentary in the DVD set.

The Merits of the Prequel Trilogy and the "Saga"
Time
The prequels are too filled with stuff that "looks cool" and doesn't really fit the story. A great example of this is General Grevious. Why have this caracter? He just suddenly appears in Ep III, and is little more than a throwaway villian. Does he serve any purpose other than "wouldn't this make a great action figure!" He seems to do little for the story. If you insist on having Grevious, why not introduce him in II, or do something like have him actually be Maul, or something that ties him in to the rest of the story.
The jedi force powers also fit into this area. It looks cool to have a hyperactive jumping Yoda, and Superman-like Mace. Even if it doesn't fit, we'll explain it by saying that the Jedi in the OT were old(Obi-Wan, Yoda, Emperor), crippled (Vader), or untrained and didn't know what they were doing (Luke). The problem with this is that in the prequels, people like Yoda and Dooku were already really old and it didn't hurt them any, Grevious was crippled and still did great (I know, he isn't a real jedi, but still). And if Luke was untrained and not ready, then why the heck was Yoda and Obi-Wan determined for him to face down Vader? Did they want him to get killed?
