Do you have a gun?

I'd like to get one of these someday. It is a great gun.

I'm pretty sure that it said something to the effect that the Emperor doesn't beleive that one or two lone Jedi could do anything to hurt him anymore, and that they would just be content to stay in hiding the rest of their lives. Otherwise, you have the problems of even if Yoda can't be found using the force, why doesn't the empire care to look for him, either?

Info: Superman II Donner, and III & IV extended edits

There's no way anyone's going to convince me they have any appreciation of the craft of filmmaking and then go on to say Superman Returns isn't as good as III or IV. That's either nostalgia taking over, or a gross misunderstanding of what makes a decent film.

No, III and IV weren't good movies, but the issue I have with this is that they DO exist. Singer deciding that he is going to do a 'pseudo' sequel to II, and pretend that III and IV don't exist is silly. They may suck, but instead of just ignoring them, start their own continuity.

Nobody was really looking for him. Vader had no interest in facing him again or returning to Tattoine ever again, and Palpatine had him written off as no longer an issue and someone who couldn't do anything to hurt him again. In the novelization of ROTS, they say something to this effect, IIRC. By Ep. IV, everyone has Kenobi written off as dead.

There was a sign at our local Wal-Mart that claimed they 'thought' they would get a few in before the 20th, but they don't know how many or when. Kind of funny in a way, I thought.

The $$$ spent on the war on terror

But we might as well pour as much money into a War on "Terror" as we poured into a War on "Drugs" - because that worked out very successfully, didnt' it?

.

I don't understand this logic. So we are fighting terrorism, but, since it has been going on forever, and will continue in one form or another forever, we shouldn't try? Following this logic, we should disband the police force in every city in this country. People have always stolen stuff, murders have taken place since the beginning of time, etc, so we shouldn't try to fight that anymore? Just let people do what they want to do, kill whoever, because we can't stop all killings, so we shouldn't try?

I agree with C3PX. Just because Sony has a 'big name' doesn't mean that it is guaranteed success.
No, I don't think the PS3 will just flop immediately, but it will be a failure overall. I see it being a Sega Dreamcast, going along for a bit, mostly on the 'name' factor, but not succeeding overall, and eventually being forced out. Cool graphics alone doesn't sell systems. Otherwise, the 3DO and Atari Jaguar would of been huge successes. They had amazing graphics for their day.
And yes, the CD-i was a crap system for several reasons. But it was a very expensive crap system. The 3DO and Neo Geo were decent systems, but mostly unaffordable to the general public. I just don't see that many people wanting to plop down $600 on a PS3, when they could have a Wii or an XBox 360 for a fraction of the price.

What I am wondering... is if anyone knows where I can get my hands on the 150 minutes original cut... or if a composite can be made using alternate footage from different versions... if that exists?

I know you are probably asking yourself.... who in the hell wants an extended version of the THAT MOVIE..... well... I figured eventually some more extended versions of the Superman movies will probably be on their way at some point so why not complete the collection with every extended version possible?

Thanks in advance... and sorry for the mention of this movie ; )

I don't think that the 150 minute original cut exists anymore, or if it does, its in film caninsters sealed away. I think the released/televised versions were either the theatrical, directors, or international. I think the 150 minute version has never been seen outside of a showing or two to the studio insiders.

That is of course, if Nintendo gets some better games than they had on the GC. I think the new Zelda will the the initial pull towards the system. I imagine XBOX 360 will reign at the top though.

Well, the PS2 had several things going for it. By the time the PS2 and the XBox came out, I remember that it seemed that most people had Nintendo written off as a has-been company and that it would be forced to do like Sega and drop its own system and publish games based on its own properites like Mario, Legend of Zelda, and Donkey Kong, for other systems. But in the end, the GC was a success. I think that the PS3 has many problems going against it, one of the biggest being that it is really expensive. I think we'll have to wait a bit before we see who gets the best games, but I think that the PS3 will join many other systems, like the Neo-Geo, CD-i, and 3DO as being failures, mostly due to the fact they cost too much.

The $$$ spent on the war on terror

Iraq has been a fiasco, but I don't think that the war on terror can be written off as a miserable failure because of this. How many successful terrorist attacks have been launched after Sept. 11 in the USA? None. Its disputable if Al Quada could pull off another Sept. 11 because of the wars in Afganastan. Iraq has been a distraction to the war on terror, and a costly one at that. But if, as some in this thread seem to suggest, that we just ignored Bin Laden and spend the money on somethiing else, he wouldn't of just gone away. The terrorists would of just kept coming back and continuing to hit us.

ANH screening with modelmaker Lorne Peterson...WHY ARE THEY SCREENING THE SE??

I've made some home movies using stop motion, and if tomorrow someone came in and redid half of it with CGI, then asked me to talk about the film in front of a crowd, but only screen the CGI version, like hell I'd do it. Get it Gomer? There's no earthly way he can be happy about this, and if he is, then he's nuts. But there's no way of knowing, so its a total moot point anyway.

He may or may not be happy, but it sounds like to me that he was bought off. He has a book to sell. In order to sell it, he needs Lucasfilm's permission to publish stuff they have the copyright on for Star Wars, and he has a foreword by Lucas. So he had to accept everything with a happy smile on his face, or Lucas wouldn't of given him the rights in the first place. So no matter what he personally thinks of it, I'd be very suprised if he said anything against the CGI.

The Persecution Season is Heating Up
Time
To avoid the freedom of religion/freedom from religion arguments, I think that the major thing I have a problem with on things like this is that people have the freedom to worship how they choose, or not worship if they so choose. But this doesn't mean that they have the rights to repress the public expression of someone else's religion. Freedom isn't allowing people to express views that you agree with, but allowing them to express views that you disagree with. Just because someone disagree with Christians, doesn't mean that they have the freedom to never see or hear anything anywhere having to do with Christianity.
