I still think Anakin dying in his 40’s is hilariously inconsistent with his portrayal in the OT.

I dunno, Darth Vader is pretty evil-sounding. It makes more sense that Anakin changed his name at some point to something more sinister. The issue is that Darth became a title given to any goofball with a red lightsaber instead of a unique first name.
I always thought it would have made sense that Jedi adopt a new ‘Jedi Knight’ name after being knighted - kind of how Pope’s take a new name. That way “Ben” Kenobi would have been his rightful name, and “Obi-Wan” was his Jedi name.
Which would explain why Anakin Skywalker took “Darth Vader” as his name - once he was ‘no longer the learner’ - it was his new name to indicate he had completed his training.
Exactly. Such a waste of potential there.
I think you’re giving JJ too much credit in suggesting that the decision was driven by anything but an inability to construct these movies without world-ending threats. If he were in charge of Episode 8, I’m certain we would have gotten Death Stars four movies in a row.
I could do a version for each and see which one people prefer.
I’ll hopefully finish up the biomes shot soon.
Also, if you want to send over the Rey eyes shot I can see what can be done.
A couple small things I noticed while watching the latest workprint.
During the scene at 17:30 onwards, when Poe screams it kind of cuts in at a weird time that feels very edited if that makes sense. I would prefer not cutting any of his screaming at all while keeping the other additions you added.
Very small nitpick here also, at 41:40-41:42 you can hear han say faintly “…out of there” which was cut from I think… Hal’s edit…? + This edit. However like I mentioned before, you can still faintly hear the line and its slightly distracting when you know where to look for it.
Other than that, I absolutely love it. Great movie now, and I look forward to the full release.
Thanks for the kind words! I’ll definitely put those places on the list for final review.
107 is more like V4 at this point, but PM sent!
I imagine that Yoda would have built his saber before pretty much anyone else living on the council, so it stands to reason that it could look significantly different than ‘modern’ designs.
This is of course if you decide to give him one at all, which I personally oppose.
There are just one or two more notable edits before it’s officially complete, though the latest workprint should be at least 95% finished.
Hi everyone, I’m back! Now the Air Conditioning is broken, and may take a few days to repair during which I probably won’t be in the house. Ah well, if it isn’t one thing it’s another 😉

I feel very honored to be listed in the credits! I haven’t been very active on the forums- mainly because I don’t like taking the time to type. But I have followed a lot of this edit because DAMN, the work you’ve done here is amazing! I’m in awe of the creative ideas you’ve been able to implement! You’ve been able to achieve huge and also subtle changes that, if someone had only seen the film once or twice, might not be able to figure out what you’ve done. I certainly look forward to your version of TLJ!
Thanks for the review! The intention certainly has been to strike that balance between ambition and invisibility, so that anyone watching comes away feeling that the film is better but not fully realizing how different it is.
I’ll be away from the computer for a few days on vacation, but rest assured the project is not forgotten 😃

Sure it flows better because it was written that way, but it was also written with the subtlety and grace of a 9 year old playing with action figures.

Well, thank you for trying. I’m fine with leaving the music the same at the end of the fight, the Sith Eyes alone are enough for me 😃
I’ve uploaded workprint 107 with the latest changes, as well as conforming it to Starlight Standard per the first post. This means the journey to Luke is reinstated with Restructured changes, as well as the first R2 scene to match. The workprint uses the same link as before. Here are most of the differences from the previous version:
-Fix BB-8’s transition to the first Starkiller shot to be smoother.
-Smooth visuals of Snoke’s line ‘Then it is time…prepare the weapon’.
-Improve audio of transition from Han and Leia’s conversation to Hux’s speech.
-Fix duplication of sound effects as Rey struggles in her restraints, lower sound of whispers slightly.
-Make music louder during Starkiller Destruction.
-Lighten second shot of Finn’s crash landing.
-Add Sith Eyes to further three shots of Rey’s fight.
After more consideration, the Starkiller beam shot will probably remain as-is unless anyone feels strongly enough to change it, in which case I can provide the source clips. The only other change to make is the acknowledgements in the end credits.
One volunteer has offered to do a final quality control review and noting timecodes for color and audio issues. If anyone else notices issues, please do leave a comment so I can fix it. 😃
Davinci works on Windows 10
I just checked the flythroughs video, no dice.
I think the dice hanging shot is salvageable though, if I can find a good image of the Falcon cockpit exterior with which to replace the crew and camera. This is the closest I’ve been able to find, though it’s not perfect and is still rather distant for these purposes. It matches the blue lighting of the interior though, so that’s a bonus.
If there’s still need of a closeup to show that these are in fact dice, it would be a good thing for MR to film and could probably just use the shot from TLJ with Luke’s hand replaced with another.
Looks like I’m gonna have to replace my big hard drive with all my SW stuff on it. I’ve got it all backed up, so that’s all fine, but GD. Won’t be able to do much with anything until then.
Oof that sucks, good thing it’s backed up. It’s all too common to see long-running projects destroyed due to this lack of vision.
Yeah, that’s pretty excellent.
I recall someone trying to re-integrate the bit in TFA where Han replaces the dice on the Falcon, but can’t recall who it was. Does anyone recall? It would be a huge value add for the trilogy overall.
Maybe, but I don’t want to cut out any more of the fight, really. I guess I’m pretty picky about changing this scene further.
Anyway, the Leia reaction to Han shot is done, leaving just the shot of Finn and Rey seeing the Starkiller beam to be done on this edit. All this is so close to being complete 😃
IMO, anyone who has shown interest in the project has helped to keep me on track so your contribution has definitely been appreciated 😃
How long would it (some musical composition) need to be?
Well, the usable section from the TLJ cue is less than 30 seconds, but the duration of the fight from the Sith eyes attack to the crack in the ground is almost exactly 60 seconds.
Yeah, I’m trying to stick to music from the film wherever possible and I think I tried the darker music and felt that it wouldn’t work as well.
I think this piece of music from Rey’s TLJ force meditation would work really well.

Part of this does fit the action, buuuuut it’s too short to cover the end of the fight.
I agree that the music could be better, but I just haven’t been able to find an ideal replacement.
