That’s how my edit is currently handling this, but it requires moving the Snoke scene up to just afterwards.

Take as much time as you need. Our thoughts are with you.
Okay, just got this downloaded and it looks really good!
In particular, the first part of the first Echo base scene, much of Dagobah, Arrival at Cloud City, Han in Carbonite, and the Rebel Fleet all looked especially good. The final scene in particular looked phenomenal.
There is an issue which plagues the grindhouse edition, and that’s the greenish highlights. Note how the core of Luke’s saber is often green, as well as any metallic surfaces which are in bright light. The best way I found to combat this was to hue shift everything from the greens into the blues, then selectively return the unproblematic hues to their original state. If you were able to adjust only the highlights, that may be even better.
Although both children were hidden, I think it’s a safe assumption that Vader at least suspected that he had a son, and this turned to certainty between ANH and (non-SE) ESB.
It’s a tough balancing act, since as Dreamaster said the hair and gray metal can easily turn green with the more green walls. I’m also taking into consideration the fact that many of the Tech references have too much of a green push and I’m trying to ease that back in certain places where I think it’s appropriate, taking the most balanced frame for reference purposes.
As for the Luke ghost, he’s in every version of the SE so there’s a good argument for leaving him in. On the other hand, it’s clearly a mistake, so perhaps I’ll just remove him anyway 😃
I feel so validated right now.
I hope we see helmetless Phasma at some point in the film.
This is a more substantial edit than mine to be sure, and most of these ideas sound good. Some thoughts, haphazardly listed:
A lot of people seem to dislike the banter between Poe and Kylo, but I like it. I could take the boyfriend line or leave it.
Is this edit intending to preserve the Han’s son reveal until the Oscillator scene? Because I wonder if you’d be able to cut enough out of the Han/Leia discussion at the base without it becoming unnatural. I do agree that some of that should be cut, especially the Snoke references. In fact, all Snoke references in the film could go and I wouldn’t be sad about it 😉
My edit seeks to remove the Poe closeups on his approach to the castle to preserve the revelation, and I wonder if the trailer footage can be combined with the film shots to repair the single X-wing shot.
Overall, this edit is pretty close to ideal.
Another scene in progress. Just 7 or so minutes of footage left for this film.

Will the plot holes never cease?!
And I suppose that Obi-wan would actually be there to give Anakin his secret assignment to spy on the Chancellor. Utapau comes a bit later.
Damning with faint praise I see. 😉
I don’t think it was a consistency-breaking plot hole, simply because I can easily imagine that during the events of ROTJ Anakin would have a conversation about what he hoped for in the future, perhaps after he has failed to become a master and Padme tries to cheer him up:
Padme: "Master or not, I’m sure a member of the Jedi council could tell me."
Anakin: "Tell you what?"
Padme: "Whether it’s a boy or a girl."
Anakin (moving closer and closing his eyes) "It’s a boy."
Padme: (jokingly) "Are you sure? Because I have the strangest feeling that it’s a girl."
Anakin: (earnestly) "No, it’s a boy, and when he’s old enough, he’ll…"
Padme: (sarcastically) "Let me guess. He’ll be a powerful Jedi like his father, and inherit your sword like the great warriors of legend."
Anakin: (sheepishly) "Something like that."
Padme: "So are you saying a girl can’t be a Jedi?"
Anakin: “You know that’s not what I meant.” (senses movement in the other room) "Obi-wan! What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be on Utapau?."
Obi-wan: “I forgot something. Didn’t want to interrupt.”
Unfortunately none of this happened, so the plot hole is created.
Worst president in living memory.
FTFY
That isn’t a PT plot hole, it is an OT one. Unless you just chalk it up to him lying.
How is that an OT plot hole?
When do you believe Anakin Skywalker told Obi Wan “please give this to my son when he is old enough”? Was it before or after he was hidden from his father at birth, per Obi Wan in ROTJ?
ROTJ only suggested that it was a potential plot hole, since it’s entirely possible that Anakin discussed his plans for the future with Obi-wan, even if he didn’t know for sure that he would have a son. The prequels confirmed it as a plot hole by not having this conversation, so it’s partly the fault of ROTJ, partly the fault of ROTS.
That looks great! All it needs now is some selective saturation and a curves adjustment:
Why you gotta remind me of another Star Wars thing?
Alien: An effective cosmic horror film.
Aliens: A decent sci-fi action film.
Alien 3: Um, I really don’t remember. Kind of depressing.
Alien 4: Actually certifiably depressing.
Prometheus: Khuh? Whaaa? Hmmmm.
Covenant: Just. Stop.
Alien: Covenant
My first impression after watching Prometheus was that it felt like a prelude to revelations in the next film. After watching this, I can conclude that neither Prometheus or Covenant are worth the bother. Covenant, though it has a fascinating villain, still fails to provide any answers and ends illogically.
What the Alien franchise has desperately needed is a new type of alien. We know the life cycle of the Xenomorph, so there is no longer any dread in the face of this threat, only momentary shocks due to jump scares. Also, Prometheus was a more interesting movie than Covenant for me because at least there was some nominal change in the plot structure of ‘ship gets a signal and investigates’.
Here’s an idea, Scott: Have a ship with a bunch of competent scientists and soldiers get lost in deep space, crash landing on a planet far from Earth and encountering a threat that is entirely different than the Xenomorphs or the Engineers. It’s pretty simple.
I think a shift in storytelling would make these films better than just making a new threat. Covenant tried to balance action, horror, and the philosophical elements of Prometheus to somewhat lackluster results as the latter two don’t feel nearly as present in the film. If the film had just been scarier and answered a few more questions I would have enjoyed it a lot more than I did.
That it’s not scary is a structural problem though. As I said, there’s negligible mystery in the Xenomorph life cycle, so we’re all just waiting for the hapless redshirts to catch on before they all bite it. We’re not learning along with them the dangers of this threat. The other problem is the lack of answers. It’s not that we are given few answers to Prometheus, but that the person who demanded these answers is gone and with them the drive in the story to provide those answers. Therefore, the answers it does provide it provides to the audience and not to the characters in particular, making it explanation heavy while failing to satisfy our desire.
Exactly!
And for a prequel, Life is at least a better contender than Prometheus or Covenant.
I didn’t say he’s wrong, which is sort of why it’s depressing.
No, but I bet nobody would mind if we posted it in one of the 20 or so Batman threads.
Here’s my odds on various things happening (no timeline) after the events of last week.
“Smoking gun”-type indisputable evidence of criminal wrongdoing by senior administration official available to public: 100%
Successful RICO prosecution of senior administration official: 85%
Presidential pardon of senior administration official: 80%
Impeachment of senior administration official: <1%
All mainstream media access to White House revoked: 10%
All mainstream media (including Fox) access to White House revoked: 1%
Dems take the Senate (meaning 51+ seats) in 2018: 0%
Dems take the House in 2018: 0%
Trump average approval rating (Gallup): 36%
Trump re-elected in 2020: 60%
Trump appoints one or more additional Supreme Court justice: 40%I like the direction the news has been heading too, but there is still quite a hill to climb. I wouldn’t treat this like a done deal at all.
Well this is depressing as shit.
I think that the recomposite of the shot for the SE shifted the flashes 1 or 2 frames further, so there should be a way to reconstruct a full flyover without flashes. The problem would be in extracting the flashes to place in the correct locations, and this would probably take some reconstruction in Photoshop.
