Good thoughts, VV!
I’ve been playing with some AI lines that Jar Jar Bricks has graciously provided, and there is one that I’ve already been able to implement:
https://mega.nz/file/fdVGWITD#W-SkNY4yf0OVjPYbB5WNPGyzUBA19TeoEOeSwZ-yq2U
This is the line where in V1, Leia says 'The First Order…they’re charging the weapon now. The Senate is the target."
It always felt odd to have her say ‘the target’ instead of ‘their target’, so this new version has the updated line generated by AI. I used just the ‘Senate is their’ snippet, but I think it marries quite seamlessly into the flow.
Speaking as one who has seen a bit of what you’ve got in store, count me among those eagerly awaiting this endeavor 😉

Also, I made a version of this scene with timecode removal for my edit, which solves many of the issues that remained with xxtelecine7xx’s work, and that’s available as well upon request.
Just spitballing here, but the biggest issue with Luke’s death is that it feels a bit random. Like, he could just as easily have lived, so it’s unclear what purpose his death serves.
So what if Luke saw his own death when he confronted Ben, a death he knew would take place on this island? This is hinted at when he says to Rey ‘I came to this island to die’. However, in that context it sounds like he has just given up and figures that this would be as good a place as any to spend the rest of his days, instead of accepting the truth of a vision that is put in motion when he fails to kill Ben.
Perhaps he says something in the Jedi Tree:
“I will never train another generation of Jedi. I came to this island to die…that is my destiny. It is time for the Jedi…to end.”
Just a bit to emphasize that he has seen his own future and believes it to be unchangeable. Therefore when he dies it is in fulfillment of his own vision, but interpreted in a hopeful way that he couldn’t have foreseen.
It is a dark time for the galaxy.
The EMPIRE rules with an iron fist. But amid this tyranny, pockets of resistance have started to form.
Desperate for support, these REBEL groups have turned to a network of secret agents to supply them with stolen Imperial assets.
In possession of a valuable piece of Imperial technology, a young thief prepares to meet the man behind this shadow network…
By that metric, Johnny from The Room is flawless.
Welp, you’ve actually convinced me 😃
Looks pretty good! Definitely more unsettling.
For Starlight, I’ve already changed the eyes to be a bit more prominent, and I’m happy with the look. I imagine that they would be more vibrant in a vision anyway, so there’s really no problem with inconsistency.
Of you could end it with this if you’re not a coward.
My (unpopular) ranking:
- Last Crusade
- Raiders of the Lost Ark
- Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
- Temple of Doom
I know it’s a very unpopular take on the Indiana Jones movies, but I genuinely find Temple of Doom to be the most boring movie of the four. Last Crusade and Raiders of the Lost Ark are my favorites, and kingdom of the Crystal Skull is fun.
I’d probably list them in this order as well. The last time I watched Temple of Doom it was genuinely difficult to find anything in it enjoyable.
Version one I think would work even better if she just said ‘No…it’s too dangerous’, leaving time for a pause before Rey responds.
Personally, I feel sort of uncomfortable using AI voice clips for fanediting. The fact that we can now create new movie dialogue out of thin air, with no input from the original actors at all, feels sort of soulless to me. Call me a Luddite, but AI in general is a Pandora’s box that I’m not really comfortable opening.
If we’re going to change Jar-Jar’s dialogue, I think the classic “foreign dub with new subtitles” route is the best way to go about it. Sure, Jar-Jar does appear in later canon material, but you can just assume he learned English in between movies (which would explain his dialect).
That’s fair. I also agree that replacing all of a character’s dialogue with AI feels weird, and if someone were to go the route of redubbing Jar Jar, it should be with a real voice actor (just like a foreign dub of a movie).
Personally for me, I think AI should work as a tool to make possible things that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. For example, JJ had a bunch of deleted scenes of Leia from The Force Awakens that he wanted to use in TROS but probably couldn’t because the dialogue didn’t work with the new plot. If a line of AI dialogue would have allowed that scene to be used (along with shots of Carrie’s real performance), I imagine that JJ would have done it. To make a deleted scene work in Restructured/Starlight, I ended up mashing together several of Leia’s lines with new mouth movements, but that allowed for the inclusion of my favorite Leia character moment in all of the sequels, one that absolutely deserved to be in the movie.
So yes, AI is a tool, and it is up to us to use to use it to enable more human performances and storytelling, not to impoverish them.
Sounds pretty good!
Though there’s no helping the awkwardness and unbelievability of Carrie Fisher not speaking for most of a conversation.
Star Trek: The Next Generation
It’s still my favorite Star Trek show, and one of my favorite shows in general. It’s just comfy.
I think the line is fine, personally. It feels like Kylo is genuinely unhinged at that moment and is expressing disbelief that there is more to the report, regardless of what it is. It could reasonably be expected that the First Order would interrogate those on Jakku to find out about Rey, and this report is given to Kylo before he reaches Maz’s castle along with the report by Kanji Club.
Sure, you could imagine that there is a backstory to Rey that motivates this question, but it can be interpreted either way.
Okay, I took the Despecialized ending from here and threw the audio into a MIDI editor and added some orchestra and brass elements to the Force Ghost section. Nothing huge, and it’s pretty rough since I didn’t know anything about MIDI editing before today.
Here’s the result.

The VHS trilogy all the way for me. I still have an original ESB VHS around somewhere.
Interesting about being anti-copyright, VII. I would think that being pro-copyright would prevent you from watching an unlicensed edit, so I guess I’m a bit confused.
Celebrate the love, guys. Yub Nub is the height of semi-diagetic music in SW.
Indeed.
I just posted here how the original score would work just fine with the addition of some more orchestrated melody. I’d also humbly suggest continuing the conversation there instead of further cluttering this thread.
Because of the talk of alternate music for ROTJ’s ending, I went for a look for some lesser-known Williams music to put to this scene. Here’s a fun combo:
Start this track at 1:38

and play it concurrently with this from 0:55

In all seriousness, I think what’s missing from the Yub Nub ending is a bit more of the underlying instrumentality that appears near the end of the scene. If someone recorded and overlaid an orchestra section which gradually faded in throughout the scene, it would have been perfect. It doesn’t even need to be complicated, a simple melody in strings and brass that follows the vocalists would suffice. As it stands, the ghosts just appear to the sound of tribal drums without any fanfare, and what little there is comes in too late.
I’ve got a few ideas, I’ll send you a PM 😃

Sounds pretty great to me!
