I’d buy a computer that can open Chrome while Spotify is playing without crashing one of the two (if not both).
You’re clearly drunk with power.
Yeah it’s not made with that kind of logic in mind. Like they way the heroes actively waste time and risk their lives shooting at TIE Fighters instead of just jumping to hyperspace.
Also - wasn’t it the Noad System or is that a fresh idea for the mis-heard stuff thread?
Anoat’s not a system, he’s a man.
Wait.
With regards to the DS being able to use a hyperdrive. I am stunned that people think it wouldn’t. Space is really, really big…I mean, really big. For the DS to not be able to fly at lightspeed would render it completely useless for striking fear into the galaxy.
Of course it realisticly needs a hyperdrive, but I’m not sure if that was the original intent. In the older Superman comics stuff was always just drifting from Krypton to earth with no propulsion at all more less a hyperdrive. Writers didn’t always think that stuff through, and Lucas probably didn’t either.
The Death Star is treated the same way a villain in an action movie is treated - realistically they need to be running at full speed to catch up with our fleeing protagonist, but somehow they manage to catch up while walking at a slow, menacing pace.
Has anybody mentioned removing the opera singer? Because that’s seriously my only issue with the movie.
That’s probably the only gag that I would cut.
Well that and the BB-ST.

The fatness and fading into the distance are closely based on the TFA crawl. https://i.imgur.com/3KBqQuu.png
Perhaps it would look a bit different if I based it directly on the OT (which I assume TFA did in the first place). I haven’t studied the OT crawls much so I can’t say for sure.
I guess it’s not a thickness issue so much as it is a luminance issue.

In the original, you can see a large variance in luminance levels across the letters, making them pop a bit (notice how much contrast there is at the S in ‘Awakens’):

In your version, it’s like the brightness of the title is clipped.

That’s probably because it’s fading out at that point, but I wonder if there’s another blending mode that will allow it to fade out while retaining more of the contrast.
we’ve never seen exactly how Imperial Walkers are dispatched.
Really big parachutes.
That looks really nice. The only thing that looks a bit strange is when the title gets very small in the distance and it starts to look a bit fat and crushed in terms of luminance. The original Trilogy titles (at least the SE versions) pretty much retain their luminance throughout the crawl.

A stupid pun that a five year-old came up with is unbecoming of the evil villain in the dour war movie that Rogue One is trying to be. I don’t understand why anyone likes that joke. It seems like a lot of people have the idea that in order to enjoy a movie they have to like, defend, and justify every single aspect of it.
I liked his pun. I didn’t care for the dour tone though, except for in the final act.
I am the author of your pain.
Obscure, but not unmemorable.
Spoiler alert.

An essay written by JGL on Luke Skywalker - worth reading. Even though we ultimately disagree, he clarifies some great points already presented in this thread several times, and he does acknowledge that those who didn’t like the movie aren’t entirely wrong on Luke’s characterization or the movie itself.
If already posted, forgive me.
Another way to take this is that Luke is no longer our main character. In a movie, audience avatars such as Luke or Neo or Ethan Hunt cannot abandon their missions, cannot have self doubt so severe that they give up on the story, since that sends the clear message that the audience should give up on the story. I think this is where many fans are stuck right now. They still see Luke as the main character, someone who needs to have faith in this story. But the main character is Rey, and it is through her eyes that we are seeing this version of Luke. She is disappointed with this guy, the legend who was supposed to show Rey her place in all this. And that’s exactly why Luke cannot be the legend anymore. He must be a disappointment because otherwise people would continue to see him as the main character, and Rey would never even have the opportunity to carry the weight of the story on her shoulders.
People forget also that this is a mythological convention as old as the hills, and even Star Wars has used it in the past. The father figure becomes the ogre that our hero must slay, for the good of the people. Their time has passed, their rule is corrupted, the young blood must overthrow them. The Last Jedi accomplishes this in spades.
Maybe so. I don’t keep up with the new canon in any case.
Stupid Watergate.
I did forgot to list a third option:
C. Some people just gotta go with their favourite colour.
Fair.
Red itself being “bad” is just a terrible idea though.
Exactly.
Ideally, lightsaber colours would be
A. chosen to represent the character’s persona
B. chosen to mesh with the character’s overall aesthetic
But nope. Red = bad & everything else = good for stupid EU reasons.
Lightsabers are deadly weapons used for maiming and killing people (and sometimes slicing up Tauntauns). The idea that Jedi are concerned with how their color matches their personality makes me giggle.
Jedi: “Hi, as you can see from my purple lightsaber, I am a Sagittarius from the volcanic world of Kadavo.”
Evildoer: (being sliced in half) “Cool.”
BTW welcome back to the forums. 😃
Random Opinions on appearances:
I liked that Hux looked more sallow and haunted.
I liked how Leia looked more regal.
I liked how Snoke was a sassy jerk.
I liked how C-3PO and R2-D2 looked a lot more realistic somehow.
I liked Holdo’s…everything.
Heck, even the old ESB Atari 2600 game can’t be beaten.
My thinking is that if we establish this great pilot who is able to outmaneuver a guy who’s basically murdering his opponents, we’ll be on board for accepting him especially since he’s so young. I don’t think it’s possible to avoid his youth until after the announcer, but if his impressive actions are allowed to speak for him, it would be ideal.
Anakin’s new introduction. I think seeing for the first time, behind the controls of the Pod, significantly helps justify him piloting the Naboo straighter during the final battle.
I aslo made some changes to Jar Jar’s introduction to Padme, I’m not aware of this being done before…

Cool ideas here.
Anakin’s introduction is very abrupt. I realize you’re trying to emulate the style of a Marvel movie, but the prequels are shot so passively that I don’t know how successful that can be. My suggestion: After the discussion about going to Tatooine and the Hutts (maybe ending with ‘It’s controlled by the Hutts’), cut to an establishing shot of the planet with the start of the race fanfare. Then show the wide shot of the starting line with Jabba the Hutt, so that the two ideas are linked. Then we get a quick start to the race and shots of many racers being picked off quickly by Sebulba. After he’s established a lead, then we see an unknown racer in a small pod begin to overtake him, and they are linked together. When Anakin breaks free, the announcer shouts ‘It’s Skywalker!’, and only then do we get a good look at his face.
When we talk about themes, are we referring to Leitmotifs for characters/things? If so, I don’t know if it even makes sense to have so many different ‘themes’ for Anakin.
