Does the BD of Die Hard use the 70mm mix or is it a remix?
Does the BD of Die Hard use the 70mm mix or is it a remix?
This movie is on TV now and I've never heard of it. Looks ace!
I'm glad there is some interest here because it would be good to see it in widescreen. I went off to look up this Director's Cut and found this clip - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unJOqA46YQg
Major cropping! Some of the framing looks really cramped.
Is this what the laserdisc is like?
Who prefers the theatrical cut over the EE? And if so, why?
I discovered it's not actually an LPCM track, that was just the audio stream for the menu screen haha!
I thought the angrysun audio had better dynamic range while the other rip sounded a bit more compressed.
I did try to port over the audio but the sync seems different and drifts.

You could divide the iso into smaller .rar file parts and upload that way using places like rapidgator, despositfiles etc.
or MEGA FTW
Anyone else have problems with Mega where it just decides to stop downloading?
I have the 5.1 track from the P&S DVD if you need it, but not sure if it differs from the 25th version or not. Also could look at getting the mono from Dr Sapirsteins cut, although we don't know the source. He could have just downmixed the Stereo track. Wouldn't be surprised if he did to be honest.
On an unrelated note, I just bought the R1 25th DVD for $2! Craziness! Wanted it for the longer cut of Fear of God as I've only got the shorter UK version.
I've been watching a documentary on the Cold War on BBC. Now I'm in the mood for watching some totalitarian movies.
I've only seen THX 1138 once, it was the DC and I really can't remember it too well. I want to get a hold of the theatrical version. What are the best options right now?
I've just got Angrysun's DVD and also an AVI version of another LDrip. The picture quality on the former is pretty rough, and to my surprise the AVI has much better picture despite being compressed to 700mb. It's very watchable. I may take the LPCM track from Angrysun and marry it to the AVI version.
Anyway, is this likely to be my best option for now?
I wonder if it's a worthy project to create the most complete version of the documentary Fear of God.
The longest version is the one found on the R1 25th DVD and the current BD releases. But it's still missing some segments, particularly the Mercedes McCambridge parts.
Well I've just checked my copy and the P&S side does have a 5.1 track! How funny. But whether it is the 70mm mix, how do we tell?
Hmm wait, I can't find details about the 5.1 track on P&S, but I'm sure I've read it somewhere. Never checked myself because I was happy listening to the 1979 Stereo. But if the 5.1 track is from the 70mm mix then I may be more interested. I can confirm when I get home.
That's the later 2001 release which contains the modified version of the theatrical cut (new Warner logo, morph face).
The old 1997 DVD has Widescreen on one side and P&S on the other. Funny thing is that WS has DD 2.0 while P&S has 5.1! Would be good to know if it is indeed the 70mm mix.
Did you ever get the PCM audio for Blade Runner International Cut?
Until we get a BD release with lossless sound for all cuts, I will not be upgrading my DVD set.
I have the same DVD from 1997. It's still my favourite version to watch however there is slight cropping compared to the BD release.
I haven't watched the Dr Sapirstein fanedit all the way through yet and on paper it should be the best version out there. But having flicked through, I found the green tint a bit off putting. However when comparing these 3 releases side by side the blue tint on the BD appears just as extreme as the green.
Perhaps there is a potential project for maintaining the more naturalistic colour timing of the 1997 DVD (and VHS?) release whilst getting HD and the most picture information as possible from the BD. Also restore the WB logo, jump cut of Karras' face and original theatrical mono.
I have that but the MKV version, and it didn't compress very well. Did the Dr. release a Blu Ray version?
Did you not find the green tint a bit too much?
What is the original audio format for Big Trouble?
Why do the DVD releases have a 4.1 rather than 5.1 mix? Is it because that was similar to how it was played theatrically or just what was decided for DVD?
Totally!!!
Halloween in PCM mono tonight!!

Opinions?
I'd buy that for a dollar!
I think an uncompressed soundtrack rip is still worth pursuing here.
No doubt there are some ADR issues in the movie. But using the original track which DoomBot sent out I was comparing them to other tracks and there was definitely a difference.
In fact Doombot himself did a direct comparison with the audio files (whereas I was just switching between them while watching) which is why he went back to fix them.
Not sure if DB went through the entire movie but just fixed bits around the side changes where the issues were obvious.
DJ mentioned that a new track is coming soon, but I'm not sure if he is working on it himself or he was referring to Mat Stephens. In any case I would be interested in hearing any new versions.

Got version 2 today. Haven't listened yet. The screening is Thursday so I'll have to test it by then.
Very excited to watch it all the way though!
Would be interested to hear your feedback. Version 2 may have improved it for me but could make it worse for you if the original file was already in sync!
Great news on the audio Matt!
Doombot was kind enough to tweak several points on his version and seems to work well now. Plan is to watch this on Halloween night, although would be good to hear your version to compare against.
So is that 1:13:33 right to the end? Because when Loomis shoots Michael followed by the empty gun click is quite noticeable for me.
Also I wonder if its a bad idea to compare with the fake mono track on the new BD. Reason is that there is a theory it is a downmix of the 7.1 (or an earlier 5.1) where the centre channel is missing. Does that mean some sound effects will sound different?
Awesome thread and great work guys. This is why I love the internet!

Well I can confirm my sync issue has nothing to do with VLC. To figure out what's going on at my end once and for all I demuxed all the audio files and compared the waveforms from the LD track and the BD 'fake' mono track side-by-side.
The two tracks are in perfect sync up until 00:20:12 at which point the two tracks desync and the LD track is ahead by about 120ms. The weird thing is that this is right in the middle of a scene so I'm not sure what would account for that.
Anyway the solution for me was simply adding 120ms of empty background sound at this point and now everything is perfectly in sync throughout the whole movie. :)
That's really interesting. Still doesnt explain how others are not having sync issues. Is it worth comparing the fake mono track to DB's w64 file?
