On the subject of Batman, how well is the audio preserved on DVD/BD for Batman Returns? Given that it was first to use Dolby Digital.

And thanks for info about the BD audio too. But unfortunately it is only in lossy AC3 640kbps. I wonder if I can actually tell the difference though, I certainly can with AC3 384kbps tracks on DVDs.

Unfortunately don't have a BD drive on my PC. Track was downloaded elsewhere. Besides even with the 4.0 track I wouldn't know what to do with it!

So looks like it's missing a frame or two on the new BD.
I'm trying to sync the LD Criterion PCM track with the new BD and having some trouble around the 22 min mark where they kill murphy. Theres like a 250ms drift here and I'm not sure if there is an easy way to fix it. It's a rather busy part and no silence add/delete from. I'm no professional though and don't have much experience with these things.

Not sure if this helps but I have synced the LD PCM track with the Criterion DVD. Maybe someone can just try to time shift it to fit the new BD.
Hey Doc, I was watching your comparison video and the first bit of footage is for the official 4:3 DVD, the second is 4:3 DVD upscaled and remastered and available for download (Version A).
I thought Version A is based on the anamophic R6 DVD?

I ended up rebuilding my DVDrip again as I noticed the top was slightly cropped. So now I have 1.66:1 video which has been reformatted to work on 16:9. Still can't get the picture quality quite the same as the original DVD. Probably down to the encoder (HC) I'm using in DVD rebuilder. CCE apparently costs $1000 so that's out.
I've sync'd up the PCM track and so far so good! First time I've done this so quite pleased with the result. I'll be able to upload the track at some point if anyone is interested.
Great thanks. Do I need to save the file using a particular method to maintain the surround matrix channels? I simply synced it in Audacity and exported as a wav file.

I'm going to pull Temple also and see if the DVD has mono surrounds.
Unfortunately my UK BD of Die Hard does not include the stereo track :(
