I've sent it to some people. I don't think it's ever been used though.
Originally posted by: Trooperman If someone somehow got hold of this 1983 Japanese LD and ripped the audio, that would be the ideal copy of the original stereo mix. I know Neil S. Bulk has a copy that was ripped from a time-compressed LD and then decreased in speed; however, even this has yet to surface in a project.
The 1983 CAV LD of Star Wars has the original 1977 Dolby Stereo mix and it's not time compressed. That's what I used to assemble the original mix.
The CLV LD from that time period were time compressed. I didn't use it.
The EditDroid discs use the 1985 Ben Burtt re-mix.
Perhaps his restoration comment meant that he won't bother releasing the movie with a new soundtrack, so instead we'll have to be stuck with the original mix. Oh boo-hoo.
I have a VHS tape with tons of Temple of Doom press coverage (including a TV commercial) and some Last Crusade stuff. Where should I send a copy of it to?
Originally posted by: rnranimal Neil, was that 1977 Dolby stereo mix digitally ripped from the LD (or was this mix never in digital form on an LD?). Do you also have the ESB & ROTJ soundtracks from this set, were they theatrical stereo mixes as well?
It was the analog CAV pan and scan LD that I recorded to CD, ripped to my computer and then assembled and normalized. I didn't bother replacing the FOX logo because I'd rather have that done when synced to picture. I only have Star Wars this way.
I have an Apple Lossless file already made of the original 1977 Dolby Stereo mix. The LD I got it from plays the wrong FOX music logo, but beyond that and one instance of "wow" (on the line, "He's the brains, sweetheart!") it's perfect. Naturally a lot of work would be needed to keep it in sync.
Very nicely done! Thanks for these and thanks for putting in the effort to listen to my crazy demands. I love the lack of roman numerals on the spines and the lack of a THX banner on the front, which is unusual, considering who made these.
You now need to make an alternate for Star Wars that drops "Episode IV - A New Hope" and uses the formatting from the original release version.
"It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire.
During the battle, rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet."
The last paragraph is identical to the "Episode IV" credits. Please also note the lower case "r" in the first sentence of the second paragraph. That's intentional. Also obviously all the text should be justified to the edges. If you could do this, I'd love a high-res version. Thanks!
There were no differences in the DLP version of TPM and the 35mm theatrical cut. I travelled to see the DLP version of it for my 10th viewing in 1999 and noted no differences.
Deleted Magic is right! The 2004 re-mix was used as the primary audio on this thing and the Death Star dive music is missing. This occurs 5:01 into part 20. What a disappointment! I was over my hatred of the DVDs and this just reminded me of how horrible the official DVD is. For something made to honor Star Wars, it really bothers me that this track was used for Deleted Magic.
