Well, the script for the movie was written by Douglas Adams, I guess he wanted to do something different/silly with it this time.

It did stay true to the tradition of the radio show for the most part. Simon Jones (voice of Arthur in the radio show) has a brief cameo as the Magrathean hologram telling them that "everyone is out at the moment, but if you leave your name and the planet where you can be reached..."

I think they should just make a new TV show with the exact same script as the radio show. That would be awesome.
