Video Games - a general discussion thread

they seem to have fallen into the habit (starting way back with Counter-Strike, actuall of scoy)ping out small developers with promising and original ideas, then buying them out, employing their developers, and allowing them to run with these ideas in ways they previously never would have been able to dream of. Which is actually really cool.

They actually did this with Portal 2 as well. The different gels were invented by a team at Digipen University in a game called Tag: The Power of Paint, who also got hired by Valve.

It's pretty interesting that pretty much all of the people responsible for the Portal games were graduates of DigiPen University (which is also based in Washington state).

So, uh, I'm not sure if anyone cares, but we're putting out a DVD of the first season of Marble Hornets sometime this week. It'll include tons of bonus features, including lots of blooper footage of your ol' pal Nanner being a goofy fucker.

It's gonna be sold at marblehornetsdvd.com. I'll be sure to update whenever it goes live.

Loop me in.

I haven't watched all of it but Slender Man is a wonderfully creepy memotype and while I'm sure it's dangerous to even type his moniker it's nice to see people playing with fire.

It's on sale now! This first run is only 1000 copies, so i'm not sure if they're all gone by now.  Here's the direct link either way:  http://yhst-130167151324932.stores.yahoo.net/

I saw some of marble hornets but keep straying, maybe there should be a marble hornets thread [if there isn't already on].

There isn't, but I feel like I'd be tooting my own horn if I made one and no one else seems bothered. :P

Wait, what?

Are you saying you were involved?

Yeah, I play the (more or less) main antagonist later in the series.

My avatar is MH fan-art of me that somebody did. :P

I don't like Apple

Oh man, I wish Nanner had made a mom joke at my expense so I could fire back...

Actually there is a workaround for that. There's an option in MyBedroom to recognize your mom as a storage device. If you enable "View hidden clothing and underwears" there is another folder on your mom with all of its clothes in it, but they all have odd names (like PKFG.bra or similar), but if you copy that folder to the hard drive and import it to MyBedroom, the Clothing Removal tags will copy over too and you can keep all her clothes on the floor. Annoying, but doable.

My (limited) experience of Apple products has not been good.

My mother-in-law has an iPod Touch. I offered to put some MP3s on it for her, thinking it would be a simple case of plugging it in to a USB port then dragging and dropping the files over.

But no, the iPod is not recognised as a USB mass storage device like a normal MP3 player. iTunes wouldn't allow me to do this either as it was synced to a different computer, I would have had to delete the tracks that were on the device already. I ended up having to install a piece of software called CopyTrans, and even then it required me to install a component of Quicktime to get it to work properly.

Annoying, but doable.

Question About The History of Originaltrilogy.com?
Time

The earliest version of this site that shows up on archive.org is from March 2003, and basically all it is is a picture that says "Han shot first!" and a coming soon banner.

I found this site in early 2005 (I think Gaffer and I registered in the same month, now that I think about it) looking for the MagnoliaFan edits. And once I got here I took my first step into a larger world, so to speak. :P

Yeah the one trooper when they're talking about the new BT-16, I like the one trooper's response, "Yeah some of the other guys were telling me about about it, they say it's...it's quite a thing to see."

Yeah that was a good. It made the stormtroopers more relate able than just canon fodder for rebels.

"You seen that new BT-16?"

"Yeah some of the other guys were telling me about it. They say its quite a thing to see."

"What was that?"

"Its nothing, outgassing, don't worry about it."

The original trilogy had some of the best background acting ever. Its what makes it the greatest movies ever made. Giving lines to Stormtroopers was a brilliant move.

fixed!

Replayed it over and over and high volume and I don't hear it as outgassing. Still sounds like top gassing. Then I play it at low volume and your right. Its outgassing. Something to do with the exhaust port I bet.

Thanks for the pickup.

I always assumed it was "popped gasket". Huh.

Huckleberry Finn to be Censored
Time

I think this quote from that article is fantastic:

The book, which deals directly with racism, is not better served by erasing the racial slur. The only purpose is to ease the tension that is felt by parents and teachers of students who would read it. To pretend this is for some higher good is to insult the intelligence of the American public. America is a society in which our ugly history is not so far gone as to allow for cold, detached analysis. Because of the mistreatment of everyone who wasn't/isn't white, straight and male, America is constantly defending itself instead of dealing head-on with the wrongs that it willingly played a role in....

America talks about race like scared parents talk with their kids about sex. We're vague, sometimes terribly misleading and on occasion leave out huge aspects of the situation that would allow kids to make better decisions about how they conduct themselves. If we continue with our horrendously skewed and willfully ignorant interpretations of history, we will find ourselves with a generation that's woefully misinformed and it will be completely our fault.

Does anyone actually think that Vince Vaughn is funny? :p Ditto Chevy Chase, Dennis Leary, etc... I dunno, maybe it's that I feel like they have massive egos and they think that they're awesome, and that sours my attitude towards them.

Chevy Chase? Yes

Vince Vaughn? No

Denis Leary? Absolutely not (even on the rare occasion that he's doing a joke that isn't stolen from somebody else)
