So for years I've been languishing under the opinion that cartoons today sucked. I grew up in the golden age of Nickelodeon, with shows like Rocko's Modern Life, Rugrats, Ren and Stimpy, Angry Beavers, etc. Whenever I turn on Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon these days all I see is bullshit.

It's funny, I tend to agree with your about growing up during the golden age of cartoons, but I would have listed:

He-Man
Mask
Voltron
Thundercats
DuckTales
Batman TAS
X-Men TAS
Spider-Man TAS
etc...

But when I think of the crap cartoons that were coming out as I was getting out of cartoons, I think of Rugrats, and generally some of the other of that generation.

Funny how those things work, right?

And I know some other users here will think that my list of the "golden age"skews too young.  Just the way that cookie tends to crumble.

Granted, I did say "golden age of Nickelodeon" and not "cartoons" in general, at the risk of sounding too presumptuous :P . I loved me some Ducktales and Batman TAS, but the rest never really caught on with me. Even as a kid I just never really cared for that made-on-the-cheap animation style that shows like He-Man and Thundercats had.

Also The Iron Giant is one of the best animated movies ever made by anyone, ever.

I am SOOO glad you mentioned The Iron Giant, that is one of the best animated movies ever and it was REAL animation.

Well, technically it was a combination of traditional and CG animation (the Giant was CG), but that was pretty commonplace by that point as every Disney movie including and after The Great Mouse Detective did that too. But anyway, yes, Iron Giant rules.

I actually didn't like Toy Story 2 or The Incredibles either, though I still love the first Toy Story. I felt Toy Story 3 was ridiculously cliche and sappy. Nemo didn't do much for me either, I kind of enjoyed Monster Inc. though.

Never seen Wall-E, Cars, or any of the others. Wall-E has been the only one that has interested me.

Speaking as someone who was Andy's age when Toy Story 1 came out, and was also Andy's age when Toy Story 3 came out, I can comfortably say that I was Toy Story 3's target audience, and I absolutely LOVED it.

One thing I noticed about Sherlock is that the second episode really doesn't have anything to do with the first and last episodes. I'm guessing that since it was "Created by Moffat and Gatiss", and episode one was by Moffat and episode three was by Gatiss, they must have just gone "We can't just have two episodes, oy you, write us another one to stick in between here."

Great series though. I've been a fan of Moffat for years and this show didn't disappoint (he also did Jekyll, which is just as good, if a bit campier at times).

But then, I discovered Adventure Time.

This is the funniest damn cartoon I've seen in YEARS. It might just be my new favorite show.

Title Sequence

Trailer for the latest Star trek game.

Looks pretty good.

That does look good! Although I was leery at first, I'd say that Abrams reboot has been a wonderful thing, even the games seem better!

Now I just have to get that carpal tunnel surgery so I can enjoy games again.

So last year we got a good Batman game, and NOW you're telling me we're getting a good Star Trek game? Maybe the apocalypse is imminent after all.

I am probably way off here, but I can't help but see this thread as being intended to be a bit of a gloat fest. It isn't like anyone who is actually obese is going to want to admit it to everyone, especially when the OP says he assumes probably 60-70% of us are overweight but makes certain to announce he isn't one of them.

Maybe you're onto something though, perhaps it would be nice to know how many of our fellow forum members are less attractive and/or dumber and/or poorer than us. I propose a series of new threads, one for posting our college GPA or to admit we didn't waste time with college, another one where we post our yearly income, and another one where we can post statistics on how frequently each of us gets laid. This could be fun!

I'm poor as shit but I get laid regularly so it's ok.

This is sort of gaming-related, so I thought I'd post this here.

I've been hosting a Let's Play livestream every Friday night for a couple of months now, and according to the viewers TotalBiscuit is kind of a big name in the gamer-nerd community (granted, it's a pretty niche community). So I proceeded to tell them what a huge cunt he was and sent them links to the WoW Radio thread here. Chuckles were had, and I like to think I de-converted a few of his fans that day. http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-smug.gif
