Mad Max (1979) ...this film would not be remembered today if it weren't for its sequel and its discovery of Mel Gibson. B-
I'd disagree with that one point. The amazing way the chase scenes are shot would be influential regardless of what came after. Those shots of the camera seemingly inches from two cars bumper-to-bumper grinding metal are breath taking. Tarantino would still have based the chase in Death Proof on it... but then again he knows all films, from ever ;-)
It probably would have had an impact, but, as you mentioned Tarantino has seen everything and loves referencing obscure stuff. I just don't think it would be the cult classic it is today - because it isn't even really the cult classic it is today today. When people think of Mad Max, they don't think of Mad Max, they think of The Road Warrior.
Truth. It's surprising how many people don't even realize they've never seen Mad Max.
I hadn't realized until I saw it this past year.
Look, I'm new here,
Welcome! I don't know who is new and who isn't these days.

That is Politics' mission statement.
And maybe you're right and politics is where it belongs, but right now we're all here so let's talk!
Well that's what I'm doing ;)

So what I'm looking at here is that all these people are still coming to North America, but now there are no common hardships to force them to work together and integrate and become a common nation. I'm thinking that I don't want to introduce an adversity, but I am thinking that a way to conform voluntarily should be rewarded in the form of citizenship. Basically a relationship that states that this one group cared enough to join us on our own terms rather than to come here and appear to scorn our culture.
When I think of difficult problems that warrant creative solutions I think gamification. At the risk of getting you in trouble - a risk I'm willing to take - what immigrant populations do you think are most troublesome?

Everybody in 1984 wore the same clothes, and that was a Paradise. ;)
Took me way too long to get this. I thought back to my short shorts and well-fitting t-shirt. I mean, I guess everyone did dress that way.
I think the high ceilings probably have a fair amount to do with having lots of money. Having requirements for citizenship is a good thing, but some of yours are fairly arbitrary. There is a difference between needing to conform and needing to integrate - the latter being a worthy endeavor. Like EyeShotFirst says, we have many kinds of people. The Amish have never conformed! I don't think forcing people to give up their heritage helps.
The way I look at it is: people want to come to America, cool, how best to we regulate that? A preference on people with skills is good. Showing comptency in English is already generally required.Mostly, I don't see what dangers lurk in a multicultural society - even if people have a distorted view of what a multicultural society looks like. I also think Politics is sufficient to encompass all the comments.

That's a pretty man.
Nothing wrong with playing an unattractive character. As the star of the film I wager her talents were well used.
I thought the opera was just about big boring bubbles.
Her character is reminiscent of a number of Star Wars aliens. And this is all supposition and maybe this role is pretty important and she will embody it well. Nothing to do with seeing her as another Megan Fox (although nobody put it that succinctly). If a male were cast for this part, Cumberbatch say, I'd have the same sort of question (though leaning more in the direction of it worrying it's a big star cameo). I just see Lupita's combination of looks and talent a highly potent combination and I can't help question if this is the best use of her potential. I suspect she will do a great job and prove her acting ability, don't get me wrong on that!
She has a particularly striking appearance, whether one finds her attractive or not, and she is recognized as a talented actress. With that combination, how can one not wonder at casting her in an apparently minor role obscured by CGI?
'Hot off her Oscar win, beautiful talented actress earns herself a bit part as a CGI alien in the upcoming Star Wars movie'...doesn't work for me on the surface. It's not like Star Wars needed a star presence in a small role.
Maybe the role is really cool and maybe well served by her voice and physicality. I certainly hope her casting wasn't about her race. Though I appreciate Bingo's concern as there is a record of casting non-whites in alien parts.
I agree with SilverWook that there is a good chance she, like Serkis, would have a second role.
I only know Lupita Nyong'o from pictures and clips from interviews, but I agree she is someone I'd want non-CGI'd. She has such an interesting, and attractive, look.
I don't know how Adywan works his magic but the clip was great.
A reference to Disney's feelings about Star Wars in the aftermath of '77 (2 minute mark).
Winning statement to me is that Disney Company was jealous, saw Star Wars as a 'Disney film.'
edit: Some other interesting references, starting at 34 minute mark, gets into something nice that George Lucas did.

BS
This was a thought in my mind. I wonder how intentional or significant the human-CGI interactions really were in making the CGI feel integrated. I did like the point about the shower scene and makes me wonder if there is something to this theory - although Rocket getting his clothes shoved at him didn't really seem in sync. Planet of the Apes 2 worked for me, though maybe there was too much thinking about the CGI being really good, and not just accepting it?
How do you feel about the current state of CGI? Good enough (for Star Wars 7?), have you given into accepting it more or less, or still bothered by CGI characters?
CG still looks unreal but what can a person do but accept it. Thankfully some filmmakers have been trying to reincorporate practical effects.
True, but have we gotten to the point at least that CGI can no worse than puppets? Yoda wouldn't work for me as CGI with current technology, if ever, but maybe with a character we haven't seen?
I think I agree with SilverWook about Rocket and Groot really getting believable and not just CGI-y.

Ambassador works well.
What is your conception of the Galactic Republic? Because I never saw a problem with Senators being from different planets as I saw it as Senators from different American states all going to Washington, DC (and then each state has its governor, and typically its own senate and lower house). So is your current galactic government much looser, more than the UN? And maybe later Palpatine establishes a true galactic government with senators coming from the planets (since it's important that he later abolishes the senate)?
Quite right to not put everything in the crawl. And I also like the three-planet pattern, unless of course the story truly calls for more.

I think you need to read this article I linked to in Politics.
That said, I think it's an awesome idea.
Don't know if this has already been posted, but fun to hear 1977 reactions to Star Wars in the theater, crazy that he had the recording all these years.
Good concept: occupation from the start, Alderaan, Marya.
But I see what you did there. Having Obi Wan and Organa together at the start, is a nice contrast with ANH. But I do hope the story departs from the model in more significant ways.
I would make some stylistic changes to the crawl, most substantively, I wonder at the importance of these dissident agents? It sounds like maybe we should follow their story? But then we're off to two people running over to a nearby shipyard to convey a warning, which is less exciting.
Marya and Kenobi are on Alderaan? Again, I like the concept and think it's starting in a good place, I'm just a bit confused by the sort of outline the crawl is supposed to establish.
I would avoid using "Legate," at least in the title, because we're going to think it's her name. "Princess" worked because it created an impression in the mind that everyone could understand.
I do hope you can post scenes soon.
I hope this debate rages for years. Especially the definition of matte painting. But it seems all the mock ups show a mandible jutting upward in relation to the cockpit at an angle some would consider to be unnatural.

Ok, now I see it. By the rule of two, either Vader or the Emperor has to die for Luke to become a sith. They wouldn't want to let each other know that they are planning to replace them with Luke, so they wouldn't work together.
Still, in Empire, Vader wants to persuade Luke to rule with him as father and son, which implies that he wants to get rid of the Emperor. If you'd want to change the prequels so that Vader's turn against the Emperor is not hinted at, you'd have to change Empire, too.
Good point, I'd also forgotten that.
I'm the same way, Duracell. I think that's why when I do drink a sufficient amount I think, "I should do this more often!" Fortunately, I don't have much of an appetite for alcohol and easily go for months without a drink. The occasional glass or two of wine is plenty. Still I do hope there is more happiness going on for you!
I can't tell if trolling...but I will assume not...
Like Frank his Majesty says, we don't suspect that.
Frank, I think the Rule of Two comes into play because every apprentice potentially has designs on killing his Master. It's one of the dumbest creations in Star Wars and should be excised in any event.

Star Wars games on sale on Steam. Probably for Star Wars day.
Lego Star Wars Complete and #3 are $6 each- which is the lowest they've been and they almost never go on sale.
Tempting. Which would people recommend?
