I’m sure that decision will get appealed.

Delay is probably all he can do.

This question of presidential immunity reached the Supreme Court again during the Clinton administration. In 1991, Paula Jones, a former secretary in the Arkansas statehouse, filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against then-Governor Bill Clinton. Litigation was still ongoing when Clinton was inaugurated as president in 1993. As President, Clinton claimed that the office of the President granted him immunity from the civil suit and warranted suspending the case until he left office. The Court heard oral arguments for Clinton v. Jones in 1996 and reached a unanimous decision in 1997. The Court ruled that a sitting president is not immune from federal civil lawsuits for events that occurred before they were in office. In a May 1997 op-ed, the New York Times editorial board argued that the decision reinforced the constitutional principle that “no American, not even an incumbent President, is beyond the law’s reach.” While this was a landmark decision, the decision did not address whether a sitting president is immune from civil lawsuits in a state court.

President Trump may have a path to at least delay many of his current civil suits as the courts decide whether he can be sued in state courts. With so many cases pending, it may be years before the question of presidential immunity is completely answered.

My opinion is that the joke is funny, not that the film is bad. I don’t have an opinion of the film, though I do think the twelve year shoot is inherently pretentious if it isn’t good.

That’s a dumb thing to think. If it isn’t good it’s not pretension, it’s just a failed experiment.

Thing is, the movie is good.

It’s a decent prequel for a remake of Before Sunrise 😜

The world’s last male white rhino died today.

Diversity in the animal kingdom is important, hope they can preserve the species.

How are they going to do that? The last male died - there are only 2 females left. Unfortunately the species is probably going to be extinct.

“The plan is to use stored sperm from several northern white rhino males, and eggs from the remaining younger females, and implant the embryo in a surrogate southern white rhino.”

why they want to implant the embryo in a surrogate southern white rhino instead of one of the remaining northern white rhinos, I do not understand.

They may be too old for baby rhinos and/or they’re looking toward the future when they are both gone.

For what it’s worth, in the novelization, Poe sets a hyperspace entry point before Leia and Holdo retake command of the ship. That entry point is never changed, so when Holdo is alone on the ship waiting to die, she notices it - and because the ships have kept moving that whole time, the entry point is now behind the First Order fleet. That’s what gives her the idea to try it - because the ship will be accelerating to near lightspeed prior to hitting the hyperspace entry point.

So the “hyperspace ramming” actually occurs before the ship enters hyperspace, while the ship is accelerating to near-lightspeed in realspace.

It was basically her seeing where the entry point was plotted in relation to the position of the fleet, getting the idea, and going “Huh, wonder if this will work? Can’t hurt to try since I’m dead at this point anyway.”

Would have been hilarious if the jump was successful. The expressions on the faces of Hux, Leia, and Poe would have been priceless.

Papa Murphy’s is a scam. If I want to make my own pizza, I’ll get one at the grocery store.

Hey look, we already had this conversation in 2016!

Except Papa Murphy’s is not frozen. The ingredients are fresh, and they pile a ton of them on. I also find the flavor to be superior.

Is the quality of a pizza related to the number of ingredients on it?

No. I was just amazed when I went there at one point to order a pepperoni pizza, and they covered almost the whole pizza in pepperoni. I was rather impressed. That’s just in addition to the cheese and the sauce being good. The only downside is the crust isn’t scored so you have to watch out for bubbles when you cook it. That’s kind of annoying.

You don’t have to worry about this at take-after-baked pizza places.

I prefer Papa Murphy’s because it tastes better, enough to be worth the inconvenience of cooking it.

With a pitch like that I don’t know Papa Murphy’s would hire you as a spokesperson. Better if you say “…and it’s so easy to cook!”

How horrific. Is that flan?

Disapproval of her is not support of Trump. Claiming they’re equally bad is, because it’s giving Trump waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much credit.

A logical alternative under your view is that I’m not giving her enough credit.

If that makes you feel better then ok.

I feel great saying they’re both bad options and that logically not being a defense of either.

Yeah but you’re not being logical if you think they’re both equally bad options.

no, its the same. i had to find a pair of socks this morning. it was dark, so i couldn’t tell what color the one was, and i was worried that maybe it was a bad color. The other one i knew was crusty and gross, because i stepped on a slug the night before when taking out the trash in my socks.

Yeah, you’re not fooling anyone with that excuse.

I didn’t want to go there. But now that you’ve stepped in it…

To be fair, during the election one could assume they were both horrible for different reasons. Now we know he is definitely as horrible as was originally thought, while she is still just presumed so. Plus, he’s completely incompetent while she is not.

It’s one thing to say that she would be as horrible as, say, Pence or Cruz, but it’s a real stretch to say she’s equal to Trump. At the very least she would actually do her job rather than just golfing all the damn time.

I don’t get golf but I don’t think it’s a problem. Clinton would have done yoga all the time. Anyway, as a conservative it’s hard not to like some of the policies. I do think Gorsuch was a great pick although his writing style annoys me. I think movement on Israel and North Korea is very promising. I think the pushback Trump inspires is healthy, whether or not it’s meritorious. You’re also right this judgment entails a lot of assumptions.

He did win the 2016 election, he just wasn’t selected by the “American voters”. Whether the alternative is better or not is irrelevant.

Back to the original statement “Americans chose him” is even further from that - “American voters” - as only a small portion of the American population actually voted for him.

Going back even further to saying DC doesn’t deserve representation for electing one anti-semite, I assume this was a joke, but to be clear there are states that have elected far worse.

It did start with jokes before we were all so serious. You’re exactly right that we can define this all kinds of ways to say “Americans didn’t choose.” Bill Clinton only got 43% of the 55% who turned out to vote in 1992. But Americans did choose him, even if the rules or turnout don’t reflect a popular consensus.
