Has anyone now second guessed the prequels

People seem to find it hard to accept that the prequels are the way they are. Is it really how Lucas says it is that: "people wanted to see Darth Vader running around and chopping people up with Lightsabers?"

I never in a million years expected Lucas to do that as much as I like the "Dark Lord of the Sith" and didnt expect Vader til No3, I always imagined that the prequel trilogy would be deeper than the swashbuckling adventure of SW
but what I did not expect was Jar-Jar Binks to have more screen time than Kenobi in Episode 1, and I feel overlong FX sequences which I found boring and which held the story back, and someone other than Kenobi discovering Anakin and Anakin creating C3-PO...Meance is I feel is average to above average fantasy Sci-fi but it lacks something for me that makes its Star Wars,

I feel Clones is not as bad as people make out but the love sequences lack something and the dialouge for them is weak(this is where i feel Lucas needed most collaberation) and the best two love sequences ended up in the deleted scenes, and I feel the Droid factory holds the story back and could have been told in less time, again to me its lacks the spark that makes it truely good Star Wars and feel it drags abit.

I have no real complaints about Sith which I feel is good Star Wars and feel now is Lucas best SW in 25 years

One problem is lack of proper villian other than Palpatine til Vader arrives Maul Dooku and Grievous were underused but interesting but some of time feel like a disposible villian til the enterance of Vader, Gunray does not feel a threat like he should , and the consistent villian in the O.T Vader and in SW Tarkin felt a threat as well as The Emperor.

I feel the Lucas overall story is good but the execution lets it down

The love story, plot, everything is modeled after the styles of the 30's, as he has said on many occasions. And I wouldn't expect one of those movies to have great acting. Also, many purists aren't being truthful to themselves in that the acting in the OT is that much better. Take the famous "Nooooooooo!!!!!!!" from ROTS. I ask everyone, do you honestly think that it is any better than Lukes "Noooooo!!!!!!" in ESB? Like father like son I suppose? Also take the fact that HC and MH had that same whiny acting style which LUCAS WANTED. I have to trust the old bearded one in his decisions, becuase I highly doubt he would spend and risk hundreds of millions of dollars, around ten years of his time and devotion, and countless interviews and queries, if he didn't know what he was doing.

People might find this hard to believe but when I watch Star Wars i dont expect great acting and dialouge, I didnt expect it in 77 80 83 and didnt expect it for the prequels It didnt matter me in 77 and the same in 2005 to me its par for the course in Star Wars you watch something other than Star Wars I feel to get this excellent dialouge and excellent acting, and I feel Lucas is a great filmaker and was near enough at the top of his game for Sith(people will disagree) but he works I feel better in collaberation(screenwriters other directors?) and feel some was needed for the prequels( eg. the romance in Clones and Sith which a percentage feel is the weakest)things like this needed polishing and someone saying to Lucas this doesnt feel right.

This is part of my problem I have, when will the George Lucas final version of the original trilogy appear, 28-22 years later and still has'nt arrived apprentatly and people are still buying sets eg 2004 DVD sets that are still apprentanly still not his complete "vision" for Star Wars, but for the 30th Anniversary the original trilogy will surely appear again (with more changes fixes most people are sure of it) but will that the final definitive George Lucas version or will one appear again down the line(with more changes......).

Its ridicolous, the fan-edits I have seen on here have apprently done a better job than Lucasfilm on ANH at fixing sabres fixing bloopers etc, yet I live in hope that one day the O-O-T will be released and the Lucas final version will be released so I can throw away my bootlegs and can see both properly and choose which version of SW I prefer.....

If stays to the standard of Sith and the original trilogy I am all for it,

Of course of I am gonna watch it and everybody will at the start, I feel there is an opportunity ther to bridge the gap between the prequels and the original trilogy, but if its 50 hours of Imperial Bounty Hunters and Jar Jar type creatures and no appearence/reference to Obi Wan Emperor Vader etc thats not Star Wars that to me is just Fantasy Sci-Fi wrapped up as Star Wars, and I am sure fans and viewers will dissapear if they dont turn up, leaving only the die-hards who will watch it for the name regardless of product being shown, I feel it should not be done anyway as to me Star Wars should be for the big screen only and should not lower itself to television series status and then become just another TV "Sci-Fi"franchise when Star Wars in my opinion was always bigger than any franchise.

I know its well in the future, so I am gonna keep my fingers crossed, that is done well and is good, so it adds something to the Star Wars franchise rather than damages the franchise..

I can live with Clones and Sith and discard Menace, I like Sith and keep feeling what might have been with the other two if had be as good as Sith(the only prequel in which I felt I was truely watching Star Wars and felt this is great I cant wait to see again).I may not be popular but I feel its better than Jedi in some aspects, I thinking of having a quadriology(Sith ANH ESB ROTJ maybe/probably add Clones) I have no interest in Menace,at this time when viewing I am sticking to the original trilogy until Sith arrives and maybe pick up Clones again for a view and watch with Sith,
I may give Menace a whirl and sit through the six but I dont think my opinion on Menace will ever change, but there nothing I do to change that Vader created 3-PO, I can bypass it slightly if I discard Menace.

Worst changes to OT in '97 and '04
Time
I have the SEs and love the O-O-T to bit but I can live with change and changes, but the problem with the SE changes is some are not executed well enough, and they get picked up by some of the fans, for example the changes on Yavin 4 and D.S battle well executed changes in my opinion rarely if never heard a complaint about them, the ending of Jedi I feel better than Yub Nub,hardly hear a complaint about the celebration scenes on the different planets I feel the Wampa ok addition the new sandcrawler, stormtrooper hangar, and stormtroopers on dewbacks not bad addtions etc, It is stuff like Greedo and as mentioned the shuttle scene (again I can live with Shuttle scenes, but I feel the hangar needs to be unique and Moff Jerriord removed and is stuck in a silly place) and the ghost no problem understand why, performance lets it down, another example Temeuras voice good change for continuty not muffled enough maybe better delivery, these things bring the SEs down in some fans eyes. makes people reject them and increases the clamour for the O-O-T. Its Impossible to get the changes all perfect but I feel the inconsistency lets them down and gives the fans reason to complain and pick up on the faults.......

Hes messed up the franchise slightly and may be he deserves the grief from some fans I feel

1. Doesnt release the film(s) in the that inspired and are loved by a generation(s)

2. Releases SE which change parts of a story and puts in meaninless scenes when all that was needed was fixes and a bit of updating and to compound it all does not release the originals so the fans dont have a choice

3. Prequels- Good ideas but spoils them by not getting colleberation, creating inconsistencies between trilogies, adding stupid plot points eg Having Anakin/Vader create 3-PO

etc

I feel Star Wars has lost some of its greatness, because of though not all, some of Lucas descions for the franchise, which have alienated sections of the SW fanbase.

Prequel Trilogy Script rewrite

Though Lucas annoys me a lot, I dont hate the guy, and he has in my opinion more filmaking talent than most but I feel and its probably been said before he should have collabrated more, I feel some one should have said to Lucas that he couldnt do it all(direct screenplay dialouge etc) and Lucas should have listened and got more people involved as he did for the original trilogy....

we had Hales and Stoppards input but I feel must of their collaberation was pushed to one side by Lucas..

It will still be Lucas "vision" as ANH ESB and ROTJ was with all the collaberation they had.

Prequel Trilogy Script rewrite

I can live with the prequel story that Lucas did produce and like some of it but it could have been improved

1.Get rid off Qui-Gonn so Obi Wan meets and finds Anakin and trains him despite the objections of the council.

2. Anakin older in Menace, and his and Padmes relationship has grown before Clones starts, and the relationship hitting its peak towards the end.

3. Dont include 3-PO until the end certainly not built by Anakin(gets rid of contuinity problems as does introducing R2 until later)

4. Needed more interaction between Palps and Anakin as kid?, teenager and as an adult.

5. Thought the introduction storyliine of Jango was a bad idea, shrunk the universe, could have been anyone cloned,we dont need a bit of the life story or introduction for every character in the O.T.

6.Mas Amedda Sly Moore should have been those Imperial Advisor guys in ROTJ, Tarkin as an assistant to see why he is in charge of the Death Star and his importance to the Emperor.

7.But I dont feel the introduction of the Death Star was essential again creates issues over the construction time frame.

8. Anakin showing more of his attributes"cunning warrior" "best starpilot in the galaxy" and a "good friend" on screen.

9. Love and something else not just a snub from the council for his turn to evil then to murderer

10.Padmes death needed to be more convincing Anakin killing her, living long enough to deliver the babies but not naming them.

11. Anakin begging The Emperor to save him. no just the Emperor finding him and saving him.

13. Got rid off Binks the travelling scenes and Gungan battle reduced and replaced with meaningful to the saga scenes.

I dont hate Lucas and find the prequels o.k and watchable, but Lord of the Rings blows the prequels away with only Sith coming near, something that I could not say about the original trilogy

Ah, well - a personal level is something altogether different.

I was 4 years old in 1977 when I saw Star Wars for the first time. It is also the exact moment when my mind all of a sudden came alive. It really is the first memory, which I can recall in complete detail. The smell of the theatre, the cigarette smoke in the projector light, standing up for the Canadian National Anthem back in those days (no Coke commercials), not blinking for 2 hours...man, those were the days.

We went straight from the theatre to the toy store, where my old man bought me a Kenner R2-D2, who is still my favourite character.

The following fall I started Kindergarten. I was with a pretty diverse group of kids, racially and economically. But all 20 or so of us loved Star Wars. Maybe we wouldn't have found so much in common were it not for Star Wars. Maybe my perspective wouldn't have broadened. Maybe I wouldn't have normally been so tolerant of other races and religions were it not for Star Wars.

I know it sounds corny, but Star Wars made my world a better place to live in.

I can relate to all of that, pretty much the same with me ... but swap Canada for England and R2-D2 for Han Solo,
God knows how many friends I made then because of Star Wars, and am still friendly with some of them today even after all these years.....
