Sometimes do you feel like you should give up on the cause?
Time
It was an interest post by DJ the more I read it, he is right of course about them being Lucas films, but I do wonder in the end how many would not watch the new versions in the end, I know I will buy it surely, but we all have to watch them if not curiosity to discuss praise? and pick at the changes, which means buying them even though we want the originals,

Thats a very point DJ Im sure I will buy the new version as will may be some others here. thats the good point though there are versions of classic trilogy out there, it is not as if they fallen off the face of the planet and the versions will get better than ever, but its not the same as an offical release but i suppose anythings better than nothing, I happy with what I have at to mo

Its a bit off saying that about a dead man Shaw but they are probably young and werent alive when he died. but thats the future of Star Wars and it is shame but they wouldnt interested in the original SW in its original state and Lucas has had to go with the times and update it, but not forgetting the fans who in 77 loved and still love the film they saw in 77 not the film not the one most of todays generation want the 2004/2007 version

I never give up hoping and enjoy the people here more, who actually believe the best version of the classic trilogy are probably the original versions and the more fair assesment of the franchise posted here rather than in my opinion the healther than ever state that most SW posters and boards are saying.

I honestly dont believe the originals will ever be released I feel, Lucas wont do it no matter what petitions, and what some fans want he wants he his "vision" for SW and big fans of his and the younger generation(no insult meant) are happy to let him carry on,

I can see Lucas making major changes on the next set to please his big fans and the younger generation(no insult meant) and I feel the only way is the fan-editors and if people going to get them naughty of **** or downloading the originals are the way for them to be seen ever again which is a shame.

I would not complain if they were good changes he did as long as the originals are available.

The objections I have always had have been to the plot changes - i.e. Greedo shooting first, Jabba's scene in ANH, Sy Snootles' new musical number (which interferes with the flow of the movie), etc. It has also been to changes that have made the movie inferior - i.e. overdubs of that dodgy New Zealand voice for Boba Fett, Hayden Christensen as the ghost of Anakin, etc.

All the edits on this site (Adigitalman's Empire & Jedi...Darth Editous' ANH) do what you pretty much say man...It's like watching the O-OT but all cleaned up an' shit

slighty off topic.,sorry, I live in the U.K can I get these? are they one with SE additions in them, Ive seen ones with SE bits as well that look interesting.

How much money would you pay to see the original OT on the big screen?
Time

Talking of the Phanton Menace on the big screen..

In all honest truth my willpower and love for SW didnt stretch as far as seeing The Phantom Menace at the cinema, I got a fair quality "cough" VHS sometime like a week before, then me and my mates decided on the spot what a load of crap it was, and would be better spending the ticket price down the pub.

From 77 onwards it is still the only SW or SE film I have not seen on a cinema screen, though in a way I do regret not seeing it at the cinema as it was a Star Wars film

I also am aware that there has been falling outs between them and other site owners due to their attitude and policies.

I thought you might find this interesting this was taken from here and posted by someone on a "Bashers" thread on theforce.net and was taken down with this comment "No flaming! You have been warned twice, If you dont like this much here, remember you dont have to post here!"

then repeated on a seperate thread about possible Lucasfilm and theforce.net ties with a reply of "No Flaming" then a post "This is site is a privately owned company I dont think there is any conspiracy, I dont like the direction this one this is travelling through, there are ways to express distaste with openly flaming the site you're posting on

I have to agree all film should be preserved not matter what you cant pick and choose , and there is nothing wrong with Directors cuts and Special Editions though I am strong believer(not just SW any film and genre) that if you have a Directors Cut or a Special Edition the original(be it the thetrical or the slightly altered DVD) should be still available and not consigned to annals of film history and dumped away somewhere so the fan does not have the choice

I've noticed that most people who are in favor of this change defend it by saying that it's okay for this but not the original trilogy because the prequel trilogy sucks, and the original trilogy doesn't. Therefore, any change to the prequels are good. I thought this was partly out of film preservation. I think the prequels suck too, but I still think they should be preserved exactly the way they were in theatres, something that George has already seen to keep from happening. But the future of a film's survival shouldn't be dependent on such arbitrary reasons of whether or not it "sucks." I think it gives us less credibility than we already have to be whining to George, "Don't change the Star Wars trilogy! Give us back the originals!" only to turn around and say, "Yes! Thanks for changing Yoda in Episode I! Good job!" It just doesn't make any sense.

Ive have to partly agree with Gaffer in one way, but on the other hand I dont mind change as long as it is sensible and looks good and blends, and something thing that isnt crap and looks like a 10 minute cut and paste job and changes the story eg Greedo firing changes the character of Han and looks crap, .The Yoda in Ep1 is sensible change as its basically a cosmetic change(and wasnt liked by the majority of fans) and it doesnt influence the story.

The O-O-T should be preserved because of its a place in filmaking history and it won all the awards not the SEs and I want it partly because some of Lucas changes are ridicolous and dont blend into film in my opinion and because they are the films a generation grew up with and should made available with the Lucas SE so the fans have a choice(which I feel Lucas could do with comprising his "vision" as he says)

I used to support all of Lucas changes but now only support changes if there good ones, but Lucas changes range from the sublime to the ridiclous, and some look 10 minute cut and paste jobs, but surely one day Lucas must say enough is enough I cant keeping changing things..

I too wish Lucas would release the originals, but I unfortuantely feel hell has more chance of freezing over before that happpens

I do like the new TPM Yoda he is an improvement over the TPM one he was a disaster, Now for the next worthwhile change on TPM Jar Jar made less annoying...

part of me wishes the same now I am fed up of hearing P.T fans slagging off the classic trilogy as being crappy and ancient especially ANH and what a a tired and old myth and story it is now....

Lucas should done it for them and let us have the O-O-T while they have their CGI spectaculars and lightsaber fights with sommersaults,

we can retire with the classic trilogy, let them carry on.

Star Wars has always been about the merchandising my man - are you old enough to remember C3PO's?

I agree that I am sick and tired of endless waves of...stuff. I mean, what kind of world do we live in where a Yoda costume for a dog is available, but not a set of the original trilogy on DVD. And I swear I'm not making that dog costume thing up. It's scary...in a cute kind of way.

Now, if there was a pirate or ninja costume for a dog I'd be all over that like Star Jones on a butter croissant.

Next up the Star Wars bowling set

Has anyone now second guessed the prequels
Time

I like the Lucas story overall but as said the execution lets it down

I still cant understand why Lucas when doing the prequels had Qui-Gonn and never had Kenobi finding Anakin, and insisted on having Anakin creating 3-PO and as you said had Anakin as an accidential Starfighter(I can buy the pod-racer Anakin but then goto an accidential Starfighter pilot). I personally feel we never as much as we should of him being a cunning warrior the best starpilot in the galaxy and a good friend...
