I’d love to try to simulate “I knew there was light in you”.
I’d love to try to simulate “I knew there was light in you”.
Really nice tone to that. I like it.
I think TLJ is definately a diamond in the rough. The bad choices were epic fails (which people focus on) but there were many great undertones to the movie.
I liked the darker message of capitalism and slavery used in it. Most people hated it but to me it was amazing to introduce those themes to star wars and a “kids movie”
TLJ just lost me completely at the tossing of the Saber, Han going back to his old ways and “no hope” Luke.
This is fantastic information. I use Premiere Pro but being colourblind it’s an absolute nightmare to get the LUT right, especially to match it exactly with other scenes that people have made from the standard blu-ray.
I’ll give these a try to see if I can find a work around. Thanks!

I cut the line entirely. I felt it undermine Snoke and I now just have Palp saying “I made Snoke” and the next scene you see is Kylo walking past the clones. It flows much better that way and doesn’t crap on the other movies.Interesting and certainly a good choice. My only concern is that we are missing the impression of kylo being manipulated by palps from the beginning (being haunted by his grandfather in e7 and e8).
That was the point of removing it. I’ve added visions of Exegol in TLJ but I wanted Palp to be a new threat and not manipulating anyone until TROS. I thought it weakened the story on all sides trying to shoehorn Palp into “the shadows”
What are you using to rip the 4K HDR stream? I have a feeling that might partially be to blame. I don’t have capabilities currently to rip 4K BD. I would imagine if there was an option to not rip the HDR version, but just 4K, or if there was a LUT to control the blacks/contrast that you could ingest.
I couldn’t convert it from disk either. Someone did it for me. As much as I love the idea of redoing all my edits in 4k I think I’m gonna have to stick to standard Blu-Ray on this one 😦
That’s what I did. 1080p is good enough for me.
I did all my others in 720p stereo and was happy with that a few years back. I just don’t wanna put a year’s work into this edit and wish I did 4k in the future. I’m super happy I’ve mastered 5.1 surround editing now though 😄
Í´ve always been troubled by how the „I have been every voice, you have ever heard, inside your head“ line because it is just so fast. In the trailer they had the perfect pace.
Do someone share my concern and wish to fix it?

I agree! Mentioning Mustafar works for your edit. Just remember that what ever you use is going to be superior to the original s***show.
Is there any way around it? I’m killing my computer with these 27 hour conversions that are unusable.
Now I’m curious to see the difference. Can you post some comparisons?
Your disc ripper probably tells you the frame rates. I think the Blu-ray was 23.97 f/s.
I couldn’t pause the exact frame in each but these are the colour changes in handbrake from .mkv to .mp4 with all kept sources. It seems that it can’t cope with UHD at all. The timing is slightly out of each format aswell which is really annoying for upscaling.

I know most people here hate TLJ, but I was wondering if anyone ever attempted to restore the extended scene between Finn and Phasma.
The VFX to complete the scene are well-beyond me, but I feel it would dramatically help Phasma feel like a villain and Finn have a more fleshed-out arc. It also establishes that Phasma lied when she escaped Starkiller, which makes her more interesting (even if she does die right after).
I’m going to give it a try once I’m done with TROS but being colourblind it’s gonna be really tricky getting the colour grading right. I doubt all clips can be restored but I hope to use some.
I wish we could get Palpatine to say “Nothing will stop the REVENGE OF THE SITH” instead of saying return,
that would be a serious “Hux realizes that he lost the star wars” moment
You say that like it’s a bad thing 😛
On the topic of Ascendant, has anyone heard from jonh lately? He hasn’t posted in a while.
He’s back to work full time and has a lot on. He’ll be back when he gets time.
Is it possible to change around the voices Rey hears? It’s frustrating that she hears voices of Jedi who couldn’t preserve themselves past physical death. Keep the voices of Qui-Gon, Kenobi, Yoda, Anakin, and Luke- cut the rest? The gaps might be awkward so other lines from those characters could fill in.
You know there’s a designated Redux ideas thread, right? You don’t need to make everything Hal’s responsibility.

It’s so frustrating that no one posts in the Redux thread anymore, and everyone just uses this thread as a general ideas thread instead.
I do but the response rate is almost flatline so I guess people prefer the interaction on here. Maybe if others replied more in Redux it may regain momentum?
Agreed! I took it out for that very reason. I think if it’s going to be used that it needs to be the first or second clip before Leia lays down.
It’s really throwing me as it’s so far off that the new scenes stand out by a mile.
It also seems the blu-ray runs either at a different frame rate or is slightly longer in running time and when I switch the source file all my edits are out of sync. 😣🔫
What source is everyone using?
I’m not sure if it’s my screen but there seems to be huge colour differences between DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K versions. Handbrake also seems to lighten the source on conversion, which I’ve never experienced before with other movies.
Any ideas?
Here is the first pass of Rey V Zori on Kijimi… there are couple masking issues and the first scene needs the saber to be toned down a little but pretty good for a first pass I think. I am excited get working on the first Lightsaber fight next.

The only frame I noticed IRT is around 24-second mark just as Rey switches off the Saber. Zorri’s gun is out of focus but the Saber light is sharp. If you add a blur it shouldn’t stand out so much.
Another amazing job, Dude! You’re really getting the hang of this 😃
No worries. Just tried to give feedback that wasn’t opinion based.
No, the original goes falcon to mask fix. You’ve added kylo flashback in between. It’s very subtle so I wouldn’t worry if it’s not audible in stereo.
Everything else is very seamless.
Audio in sounds like the last note ends but comes back in again.
Audio out sounds like the next track note comes in just before the fade out just after the mask pieces are slammed down.
Nice! It was only the second time hearing it in 5.1 so I heard so many new little parts.
Very happy with this version.
Just watched the workprint. Liked the flashbacks, the “ok!” Edit, Loved the “I will be your protocol Droid” and the “Kill me now” joke.
The overall feel and pacing is so much better.
Things that stood out.
Surprised you kept the Rey handing over of Saber continuety issue in.
Finn saying “look sharp” to R2 seems the same as Leia saying “take that expression off your face” to 3PO in TLJ.
Weird audio issue from group falcon scene to vaders mask.
Soundtrack clash coming out of above scene.
Desert chase feels a little cold in tone.
Did you add the trooper saying “move animal” to Chewie?
Are you adding KoR voices?
A huge improvement on your previous versions. Nice work everyone!
C’mon guys, don’t ruin our escapism.
We’re all here to have fun.
Here, here!! It’s the whole reason I fanedit and the same reason why I’ve stepped by.
I’ll check out the workprint as soon as I can find somewhere to download it.
Kewlfish I’ve cut that whole Rey and Whisper scene from mine but if you’d still like me to view the masking PM me.
Can I have a link please?
