FINN: You were a spice runner?
POE: You were a stormtrooper?
REY: Were you a spice runner?
POE: Were you a scavenger? We could do this all night.ZORII:
You don’t have all night.You know, I’m still digging out of the hole you put me inwhen you left to join the Resistance. You. You’re the one they’re looking for. Bounty for her just might cover us.(We can play around with it, Jar Jar; but I’m not sure how well it will fit if he was just playing a part. And personally, I think this particular banter feels a little awkward anyway. Unlike the rest of the script, which sounds like it was written by Aaron Sorkin.)

I guess the lines could still work in context, I just…I don’t know. I’m wondering if, given that we still don’t know Chewie is alive, and he only just died, it may be too soon for quips. Literally 10 seconds ago, these characters were mourning the death of a Star Wars icon. Now they’re cracking jokes in the middle of an occupation zone.
I almost feel like they have enough banter during the rest of the film. Can’t they take a scene to be serious for once? Chewie is dead! This isn’t a game anymore.
Exactly! I give a full breakdown of why I made these changes in the video coming soon. The whole Zorri “For what it’s worth…” line had to go to. I’ve moved Chewies fakeout much later in the story as well.
I appreciate the burnout thoughts, I’ve done it a few times in this past year but Star Wars has been the only thing keeping me going at some points. I can’t wait for this lockdown crap to be over in June!

8 hours was enough today. I’ve got construction workers outside my office window all week now so it’s tough to concentrate. I’ll try some more tomorrow.
I’ve played with the timing and you can stretch it to around 4 or 5 seconds before it starts to look weird.
Wow, MR, I’m beginning to worry about you. That looks insane. I’m sure the rest can be covered by foreground puppets or objects.

I think the puppet show should remain basic and fun, How about a gorilla walker firing a few bolts at Luke and have him kinda twist and bob up n down like he’s dancing to deflect them? Kids love that stuff. Could even add a few “pew pews” in there 🤣
It’s always the short clips that take the most amount of effort.
I’m gonna try redoing the tough parts first and build around that instead. We’ll see…
This is around 8 hours of work so far on the Puppet removal. It’s really tricky to get the pattern of the material looking like it hasn’t been clone stamped and mimicking the wind blowing in the background. It’s probably going to take another 10 mask layers to get right…

Wait!? Real props and filming? Okay, I’ll admit, I really haven’t been paying much attention to the thread due to completing the next audiobook in my Harry Potter series, but are we literally about to start going the Adywan route here for V2?
My intention was always to try and film a scene of Rey building her Saber using Luke and Leia’s Crystals and now reshooting two dice shots with kylo ten. Adywan is most definately an inspiration.
How is that even possible? Hiring actors and deepfaking them?
Yeah, I was going to film it in the style of the deleted OT scene when Luke builds his, Kinda over-the-shoulder feel with a close-up on the hands and Saber but Covid put a stop to that. Hopefully, still be able to film something in July. The Kylo shots I’m doing myself, Just waiting on the Dice to clear customs. I’ve got a guy making me a pair by hand.
I’ve been trying all morning to remove the puppets but the texture of the background material and the wind movements are proving extremely difficult to mimic. That little thing it throws and the stick is really tricky too…

Since there seems to be a lot more interest in the statue shot than I had thought, I’m going to give it another pass. In my eyes, as it stands now, it’s not quite up to scratch yet.

Moving the images digitally won’t cut it, they need natural 3D motion, I’ve got a good green screen at home, if I could create those puppets physically, I could move them around on sticks to make it look like it was filmed.

That’s the one. Really nice idea. Those simple shapes do symbolise TLJ very well. We could roto they toy from the little boy in TLJ, just need an image that looks like a gorilla walker.

What story can be hinted at within 24 frames though? It’s hard to create Luke disappearing or light sabers etc. A gorilla walker would be easy but it’s tricky for it to be clear enough it’s Luke.
If we could pull this off, it would be like the defining moment of this edit. The money shot.

What do you think of those images from that video? There’s a shot of each puppet with whitish backgrounds. It could be easy to use the puppetry tool to animate.
The background of the original shot would be fairly easy to content fill. There’s just one point where the wind blows the material behind that may be tricky.
There is also a shot of Vader, 3P0, R2, Leia & a Stormtrooper in one scene. Maybe just use that telling “A New Hope” story instead of TLJ?

I’ve watched that original scene back 100 times and it looks so off. Have they actually covered something up with bad motion tracking? The more I see it, the more this edit needs to happen.

I watched every tutorial on youtube to see how thry did Kylo’s effect but no one seemed to get the particles right. I’ve gone again the grain and tried something new. It’s now got energy and fire elements to it so it shows complete unpredictability and instability.
I’m glad it’s getting good feedback. These FX’s are a nightmare to do and take forever!!
