The excellent cover for the Puggo Super-8 Edition was made by boba feta - unfortunately his site (which also had covers for JD's and ADM's projects) is down at the moment, hopefully not gone.
According to boba feta's profile he is still visiting these forums.
As I mentioned in another thread, creating separate forums for fan edits and other fan projects (preservations, custom DVDs, etc.) was agreed in principle some time ago. We are also going to keep the distinction between Star Wars and non-Star Wars related projects.
The reason it hasn't happened yet is because the functionality to create new sub-forums is not in this version of the forum software.

The guide is for the Region 1 DVD, which is NTSC.
So for a frame based (non-interlaced) source you would need to modify the function by replacing:
fields=source.SeparateFields() # separate by fields
super = fields.MSuper()
with:
super=source.MSuper()
If you're using the Belbucus tracks, they are already synched to the GOUT, you just need to add 1.017s to the start of the files.
Follow this guide here:
http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/How-to-make-a-Star-Wars-DVD-with-the-restored-mono-mix-PCM/topic/8288/
The process is the same if you're using two audio tracks, the only additional step is that you will need to encode both PCM files to AC3 to keep within bitrate limits.

i don't have a copy of the edit any more. I used Riktek media to burn the copy and it has now degraded and unless someone has a copy of this then that edit is lost forever.
Ady's reply when someone asked about this in the ANH Revisited thread.

I found SoundStretch to be useful for simple rate changes; it can also do tempo changes with pitch retention.
23.976 = 24000/1001
Actual ratio is therefore 1.0427083.
However, it is preferable to specifiy a final length to the nearest millisecond (can SoundForge do this?) rather than a ratio - even a small miscalculation or rounding error could lead to a noticeable missync after 90 mins.
Would it not be cheaper to buy a brand new (identical) drive, and swap the PCB out of the old drive for the good board in the new drive?
Just an idea - I've heard of this technique being used sucessfully in the past.
Edit: or maybe not -
You cannot do a straight swap of a PCB on Seagate Barracuda 11 series drive. The reason is because the ROM content is adaptive to your drive. This means that it is necessary to physically remove the ROM chip and swap it also. Unless you are good with a soldering iron don't bother - if you damage the ROM chip there will be no way of recovering your data.

I wrote a brief history of fan edits for the FAQ that you may find useful (LINK). Most of the links for further reading are now dead, but you should be able to find the references archived somewhere.
According to the wiki, the average bitrate is higher for the DVD9 - about 7Mbps whereas the DVD5 is only 4Mbps (this is for the PAL versions, no-one has entered specs for the NTSC versions yet). So yes, potentially better quality.
There is apparently also one additional fixed shot on the DVD9, and audio differences relating to Vader's voice.
MoveAlong said:The print is heavily cropped, so when it's displayed properly, the black bars should seem larger than the normal 2.35:1.
This is true, I think I calculated it to be something like 2.75:1 earlier ITT.
Try reading his post vbangle. That wasn't what he was asking.
According to the list on this page, the Dmtech BDP810 does support AVCHD.
Not this disc, at Puggo's request (see above).
I think MoveAlong already offered to post, presumably when the corrected version is available?
Got the disc yesterday.
I had a brief look - the film is, surprisingly, very watchable. Also, your restoration featurette is a great addition, and thanks for the mention BTW.
Sorry no in-depth citique at the moment, just wanted to post to say thanks.

whatever. The truth hurts, suck it up and do something about it....
What you have me do? Short of paying for it myself there is nothing more I can do moron.
All Usenet providers can have problems at one time or another.
Also can I remind you that you nearly got yourself banned last month with your behaviour in Ady's Episode IV thread. It's not going to take much to convince me to finally hit that button.

I get the impression you don't know.
DarthPlagueis said:Your personal life might be important but understand that this isn't a forum dealing with that.
Yes - listen to this guy, he talks sense.
... if you'd just scan these prints and in whatever way get the digitized copies to me...
Oh wait - scratch my last comment.
Can you explain exactly what you mean?
If the video on the master tape was telecined 29.97fps:
The framerate of the GOUT is 23.976, so IVTC has been carried out. Are you suggesting that it was bobbed afterwards then every other frame discarded? This would explain the vertical blur that is present.
If it's just the flag that's wrong, you shouldn't need to re-encode. Tools such as Restream or DVDPatcher should be able to change the flag in the MPEG headers without touching the existing encode.
I will take a look when I get the disc.

combining Fan Edits and Preservation Efforts together in the same forum
Seconded.
Has this been suggested to the admin? Doesn't seem like a bad idea.
Admin was all set to create separate forums back in... [goes to check]... April. Didn't happen because the required functionality is not in this version of the forum software.
I shall now go and give him a poke...
Arnie.d said:No, the color is something I didn't change (as far as I know). For noise reduction I'm not really sure... I hardly understand Gforce's script :S
Can you post the script? (I'm sure g-force won't mind...)
Orinoco_Womble said:Look at all those pretty stars! Good work Arnie.
The improvement in the stars from the pod window was the first thing I noticed in DJ's screenshots.
From a quick comparison, it looks to me like Arnie's capture has a slight advantage: slightly more detail and less ringing.
The "no links" rule was put in place for a reason.
We don't object to you posting the links some other place on the internet, and giving enough information in this thread so that people can locate them.
Any problems you're having with PMs should be reported in the bug reports forum.
xhonzi said:How did the question become "Who shot first?" If I recall, Greedo didn't shoot second- he didn't shoot at all!
Well you could argue that Greedo was going to shoot, but didn't get a shot off because Han shot him* first.
