We need to update the screenshots thread with these new versions - yes I know I've been saying this for ages now. In the meantime, there are a small number of shots comparing the GOUT with the Pwnage Edition here - can anyone provide the same for DJ's and g-force's versions?
I hadn't been following g-force's thread that closely, I didn't realise there was a newer script than that posted.
I've read good things about HC Encoder from respectable members on the Doom9 forum; although I've not tried it myself as I am so used to CCE. Apparently it is slower than CCE but produces comparable quality. It is wrong to automatically assume that CCE is way better just because it's a commercial product.
Was tempted to try and ban myself to see what would happen. However, seems like Jay has made the forum software sufficiently idiot-proof: I don't even have the option to get to the ban button on my account.
Interestingly, it is possible to add Jay to my ignore list.

I can't believe you have all missed the easiest, simplest solution. All you need to do is invent a time machine, then go back in time to a period when Karyudo was a more active member on the forum. About three to four years should do it. Then just start a thread by posting your original query above, and wait for him to answer.

By coincidence I was thinking the same thing just the other day (except I don't even have a DVD - I only have this film on VHS!).
Unfortunately there is no BD, and AFAIK no HDTV rip available either.
The best cheap LD player would be an X0 for $50.
According to the recorder's specs it should be able to record on DVD+R DL media.
You could try Verbatim DVD+R DL discs - this is the type that most people recommend.
Or you could use single layer discs, edit together on your PC, then burn a DL disc using your PC's drive.
Check the various versions here. The TB and GKar versions supposedly have the best picture quality.

"Hate" is a strong word - I wouldn't say I hated any movie. The limit of my dislike for a film would be to turn it off before the end (assuming it's a DVD or TV broadcast - I've never walked out on a movie at the cinema).

I first saw Blade Runner as the Director's Cut version during its theatrical run - I loved it. Later watched the original theatrical version on VHS, and I can see why people thought it was "meh".
The Blade Runner Final Cut was the first BD I bought (and I still only have 2 discs in my collection so far, the other being Ghostbusters.)

True, but it had a theatrical release in Europe under the title Caravan of Courage. I saw it in the cinema here in the UK.
There is some debate about where the Ewok movies should be placed. I always thought they came after Jedi, and I think this is also stated in the essential character guide book I have, but in official canon they come before.

What is the 1993 DE? Are you referring to the 1993 Definitive Collection THX laserdisc boxed set?
If so, there are some excerpts from an interview with Dave Schnuelle here that describe the film elements used. (There is another post on the forum somewhere with extracts from the same interview but from an audio perspective).
I believe the '95 "Faces" THX laserdiscs are from the same master as the '93 DC. The equivalent '95 PAL THX laserdiscs, released in France and Germany, are however a different telecine as evidenced by fewer dirt spots, the burn marks in the Tantive corridor shot, and the different - zoomed in - framing of some shots. The smearing from dirt concealment/DVNR is still present, though.
I would say probably one of the Custom DVD sets based off the GOUT DVDs.
One day I'd like to do a critical comparison between Pwnage, DJ's GOUT-sourced trilogy project and g-force's latest stabilization script.
This discussion is all very interesting - but has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. I don't want to have to start deleting posts.
For me, the KCCI version is still the best in terms of picture quality, despite its flaws (being too dark and over-smoothed). Nonetheless, the disc with the Rifftrax commentary is still worth having if you're a fan of the HS. It was on TPB, not sure if it's still seeded.

This is the capture card I have. Very cheap, but old hat now (surprised it's still available - I've had mine about 6 years!)
If you're looking for a new card, I'd suggest something that uses the Philips Saa7163 or Saa7164 chipset, or the ATi Theatre 550 or 650 (the latter may not work with VirtualDub, though). These chips include 3D comb filters to get better quality from composite sources - but because of the way some LD players process the signal this may not be a benefit.
