So, I'm guessing the German team did pretty well against the Brazil team, am I right?

Some perspective:

- This was Brazil's first competitive home defeat in 39 years

- This was their biggest defeat in World Cup history

- This result equals Brazil's all-time biggest margin of defeat, when they lost 6-0 to Uruguay in 1920

- This was the first time a team has conceded seven goals in a World Cup semi-final, and it's also the biggest margin of defeat in a World Cup semi-final

- Germany scored more goals in this match than England have in their past two World Cup campaigns combined

Let the memes begin...

There's a sport that does all that without the padding.... It's called rugby!!!!!

I really don't think that today is the day to be mocking other countries sports. England's worst performance since 1958.

I've seen that 1958 statistic in various places, people seem to be forgetting that in 1994 under Graham Taylor we didn't even manage to qualify.

Anyway, I don't know why we're complaining, we've wished for years that our national team could play like Spain.

Good stuff. Sepp Blatter is one of the most hated men in England.

It's hard to get excited about a sporting event where a government have spent millions funding it yet people live in squalor and deprivation, where drugs are rife and life expectancy is low.

But enough of the Commonwealth Games, let's talk about the World Cup:

Spanish culture prevailed, they worked for 20 minutes then had a long sleep... (excellent goal from Van Persie though):

As for the England game, Roy Hodgson has some really important decisions to make now.

Like if he wants a window or aisle seat on the plane home.

Thanks for the review Moth3r, I'm just curious to know exactly what you meant with this:

What do you mean by false contouring? And could you post a screen or point me to some scene where it happens?

False contouring: an artifact common to fixed-pixel displays that produces splotchy, distinct sections in what should be gradual gradations of color or shadows. Also referred to as solarization and posterization.

See the bright orange spots on Luke's face:

Yes it's primarily an issue with my TV, but for some reason I notice it more than normal on this release.

Great job with the SW '77 BD.

Pros:

 - this is the genuine theatrical version with all the original SFX and optical compositing intact - for the purists!

 - it doesn't have any of the side-effects from the 2004 Lowry clean-up (the process had several unwanted effects, star fields, laser bolts and natural atmospheric diffusion (e.g. smoke or fog) were identified as dirt and reduced/removed)

 - you've done an excellent job with the upscale and colour adjustments to bring out as much detail as possible. As as been said already, this is probably the best the GOUT source is ever going to look.

Cons:

 - it's an upscale - not native HD

 - defects present in the original source - aliasing and DVNR smearing

 - colours may have been pushed a little too far in some places - I noticed some false contouring in some backgrounds (although this could well be a limitation of my plasma display)
