A query about straight LD rips for DVD back up....I AM a newb at this.
Time

With regard to "syncing", I would expect that a digital rip of the LD audio should sync up to a 29.97fps video capture without any modifications; you should only need to set the initial delay, trim to the exact length then join the three files together.

I don't know of a way to do it on a Mac, but on a PC I would probably try delaycut and/or BeSplit.

Updated forum rules regarding fan edits and preservation efforts: a must-read for everyone.

I find this confusing, but can live with the irreconcilable differences.

The wording of the rules is not important - it's the intent behind them that matters. I believe it is acceptable for adywan to ask for donations to cover the cost of model making equipment, but not acceptable for ocpmovie to ask for donations "to help with living costs" in return for DVDs.

This is now taken care of

So now i've gotta ask what's the difference between that (not the DVD one, the video page) and youtube videos?

The difference is that youtube is mostly used for uploading short samples or trailers, whereas you had the whole feature available for streaming.

The intent behind the "no links" rule is to avoid being sent a DMCA notice. To be honest I wasn't particularly bothered by your links, yes it is material subject to copyright, but it's not as high profile a target as something like, for example, an ADigitalMan fan edit of a Harry Potter film.

Star Wars: Deleted Magic (Released)

The interlacing in Revisisted is awful. Was this present in the original version as well?

I don't know what you mean by "awful" interlacing - the way I define it, a presentation is either interlaced or it isn't. The video on the original Deleted Magic is 29.97fps interlaced - there's nothing wrong with that, and as much of it is sourced from video in the first place this was the best option IMO. In fact the only criticism I have is that the film sections were kept progressive and made up to 29.97fps by duping every 4th frame, leading to some jerky motion. Hard 3:2 pulldown would have given a smoother result.

I don't know if this would be going against the will of Mr. Gilcrhist (spell?), but is there any chance someone could just up the improved deleted scenes?

If you check out ocpmovie's comments on the Piratebay torrent, he states which files contain the new stuff. You can set your torrent client to skip the other files if you wish.

Yes, he didn't recompress the full presentation, so the new higher quality material pushed the original DVD over the size limit.  But as you said, you can remove the DVD_ROM stuff to get under for the burn.

Thanks - I hadn't realised the content was the same as the first release. I'll leave it off the burn.

There seems to be a shift in some of the policies of this forum.

The 'Donation' concept, when's it ok, when's it not.

It's OK to ask for (purely voluntary) donations.

It's not OK to offer any incentives for donations, for example, donations in exchange for discs or donators getting preferential treatment over non-donators.

This is my interpretation of the rule, anyway.

In relation to the shift in Donations, (which haven't received any complaints) tBSWM has also violated Rule 4, without any complaints:

4. No direct links to media downloads of copyrighted materials (VOBs, WMV, QuickTime, torrent files, NZB files, ED2K links, etc.) with the exception of short clips to demonstrate quality or content. No direct links to pages containing such files.

The violation being that the entire presentation is available from one webpage and the full DVD also available from a link click.

This is now taken care of.

And then to make things more messy, i've offered the entire tBSWM project ownership able to be bought.  (i'd like to start a company which could make the program i'm speculating to exists)  To do that someone would symbolically purchase everything of that project, i'd relinquish ownership and receive funds to start a company.  This as it stands violates Rule 2:

2. No profiting from any activities related to fan edits or preservation efforts. Those found selling their fan edits or preservation projects here or elsewhere will be banned.

So besides being highly outlandish and more relevantly unobtainable, what's the conscientious?

none

I don't have a problem with this.

Star Wars 1977 70mm sound mix recreation [stereo and 5.1 versions now available] (Released)

There's one thing on the list that is confusing me a bit--he lists "water noise" during the garbage pit scene, but I've listened to it several times and for the life of me I can't find any extra water sounds that aren't in the 35.  I think there are more splashes in the mono mix, but I have yet to find them in the '93.  Just to be safe I used the older mix during that section in case there's something I'm missing, but I'm not sure.

The additional water noise is there in the 93 mix - it's a tiny extra splash for about 0.5s!

The best way to find it is to listen to Belbucus' comparison MP3 through headphones. I could re-upload it somewhere if you think it would be useful.

I'm quite certain that the stereo mix was done first.  My reason for saying this is because there a few sounds from the 70mm version that do not appear in the 35.

My understanding is that the Dolby Stereo and the 70mm 6-track mixes were both created from the same source elements ("mix stems"). The differences are just down to the final mix. For example, the explosion sound when Han takes out Vader's wingman in the trench is much deeper and panned hard left in the 70mm (and the '93) mix, but is still present in the 35mm, only much less noticeable.

Wait, you (timbox2.0) are for real?  I thought you were someone's sock.

My question is why create a new account?  Your other account is still active (i.e. not banned).  So why this one too?

One of you is going bye-bye soon, I think...

That Avatar avatar is kind of disturbing, btw.

Different email, different ISP... but the posting style is spot on, so it does look as if Timbox is back.

I'm holding you responsible Frink, I knew you shouldn't have said his name three times while looking in a mirror.

But it doesn't seem to open it :(

Try the correction shown above.

AviSynth/VirtualDubMod YV12 problems...

... does anyone know why it won't work in VirtualDub? I'd rather use that one because it's newer and has a 64bit version.

When I open the AVS script in VirtualDub 1.9.8 it gives me the error "AVI import filter error: (unknown) (80040154)". Anyone know what this means.

Just noticed this. If you're using the 64-bit version of VirtualDub, you'll also need the 64-bit versions of AviSynth, DGDecode, etc...

Might be easier to stick to the 32-bit version at the moment.
