The GOUT crawl
Time

While I've never analysed the crawl in detail myself, there were many theories posted on the forum in 2006:

1. The crawl is completely new and CG (the text looks stable when compared to the starfield).

2. The crawl is original but has a fake gate-weave added (maybe to match the rest of the movie, which is from from the laserdisc master).

3. It's the real deal.

The situated is confused because, as TServo mentioned above, the GOUT trailer was shown to have a fake crawl.

Preserving DTS LaserDisc tracks, specifically Jurassic Park
Time

Very interesting.

Ripping AC3 or DTS off Laserdisc is something I've always wanted to try but never got around to attempting. From what I've heard, the problems stem from the tendency of some sound cards to resample the SPDIF input while recording, which of course destroys any encoded data.

However, some members (e.g. Karyudo, Darth Editous and Adywan) have successfully accomplished this.

Please keep us updated with your progress, it will be a useful for others who want to attempt this in the future.

Preserving the...cringe...Star Wars Holiday Special (Released)
Time

No, that's not what he needs.

For progressive sources, a widescreen 16:9 to letterboxed 4:3 conversion is easily implemented by an AviSynth script thus:

spline16resize(720, 360)
addborders(0, 60, 0, 60)

Interlaced sources (your Harrison Ford/Conan O'Brien video will most likely fall into this category) are more difficult:

bob()
spline16resize(720, 360)
separatefields()
selectevery(4,0,3)
weave()
addborders(0, 60, 0, 60)

Replacing the dumb Bob() with a more intelligent adaptive bobber may give you better quality.

If you need any more info I suggest you start a new thread in the How-To's and Technical Discussions forum.

Help: looking for... Prequel Preservations...

I don't know if they're interesting to anyone since it's low resolution and all that, but here are some screens:

Personally, I'm ready to throw this in the trash but if some completionist out there wants it, I could put it on myspleen or something.

I'm pretty sure that none would be interested (see here). The 'Z' version appears to have been posted to the newsgroup back in June, but apparently was missing CD 1.

I had a headache by the time the film was over, but the severed fish head floating out of the screen was cool. I still recall people in the front rows reaching out to try and touch it. ;)

I need to dig out my copy of Shrek 3D, (the theme park one) and see if the red and blue glasses work better on current flat screens. It was usually hit or miss with the 3D broadcasts of the '80's, and less than perfect colors on old analog tube tv sets.

I dug out some red/cyan glasses. For some reason, the 3D effect doesn't work for me on that clip, however there are several other clips that did look pretty good once I'd played with YouTube's 3D settings (swapped the left/right, selected Optimized (Dubois) Color mode).

You know, although I thought the movie was bad at the time, I've just watched a trailer for Shark Night 3D; Jaws 3 suddenly seems a much better movie than I remember.

Exploring the sensio.tv website with the Wayback Machine, I can see that Creature from the Black Lagoon, It Came from Outer Space and Revenge of the Creature were listed on the Coming Soon page back in March 2009. The page then disappeared.

Looking at the the Now Available page from October 2010, the following major studio releases are listed as being released in the format:
Taza, Son of Cochise
Jaws 3-D
Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over
Santa vs. the Snowman
The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D

There were also a number of IMAX films, a couple of independents, and 22 adult films (!) available.

I looked at the links you guys posted. While Jaws 3D is indeed available on Sensio 3D, the anaglyph version isn't out on DVD, AFAIK. Wouldn't the Anaglyph still be worth anything to those without the rather expensive Sensio Systems? If so, can I still upload an anaglyph AVI, or would that violate site rules?

You don't need a $895 Sensio processor to watch this if you have a PC, the private licence version of Stereoscopic Player is just €39. But I don't see a problem if you want to upload an anaglyph version.

While the article you linked to Moth3r mentions a release of Creature From the Black Lagoon in 3D, I can't find any information that they actually went through with a release... so I assume that makes it safe for preservation.

I can't find anything either. Perhaps Jaws 3-D flopped so they didn't release any further titles.

SW Trilogy Arcade emulation - promising development
Time

Supermodel v0.2a has been available for a couple of months - it now has sound, and support for game controllers! Website has moved here: http://www.supermodel3.com

Discovered an obscure secret with a high geek-factor on the Hoth escape level. Just like in the wampa attack sub-plot that was eventually scrapped from the film, the room containing two wampas has a warning sign stuck on the door (a deleted scene shows Threepio removing this sign). In the game, you can actually shoot this sign off the door - presumably you get some bonus, or maybe fewer enemies later on, for doing this.

I'm still a miserable failure at the Yavin stage, there must be a knack to it I'm not getting. :-(

I'd love to see Jaws 3-D in... well, 3D!

I saw in in 2D at the local cinema when it was released, but it always felt like there was something missing.

You can get bootleg anaglyph 3D DVD versions off eBay, but I suppose the ideal preservation would be in a side-by-side format for playback on a 3D TV with Stereoscopic Player? I don't actually have a 3D TV and this sort of thing is a bit new to me.
