Ady: something you may want to keep in mind with this scene: the light source seems to be on the far right, going by the lighting and shadows on the Executor and its escort.  If that is the case, the underside of Needa's SD should be pretty dark, as opposed to brightly lit, which would suggest a light source underneath.

The only way you would get around the "Endor holocaust" bit is if you left out the final explosion of the death star 2; showing flames/explosions coming out of it as well as pieces being thrown out (which would then form the ring), it would allow the majority of the DS2 husk to remain in the atmosphere.  If the whole thing blows up via ANH, the shockwave alone would wipe away Endor's atmosphere, being so close to Endor and all.

It would still be interesting to see an edit depicting an EA happening at the end.

Not to be too rude, but this is all PREQUEL talk; we need to save this stuff for PHANTOM: REVISITED or whatnot.

Guys (and the possible gals), with all due respect, we need to set some standards to our posts in a lot of these threads, being that they are getting flooded with facebook style bantering.  I think everyone has done a fantastic job of covering EMPIRE:R and short of the extra thing or two (like the perspective swamp shots on Dagobah) it might mean letting the thread die a little until Ady has an update to post.  I myself will keep an eyeball on it, Augrah style, and patiently await for Ady's post...

Here's a sample clip of how the scene with Yoda, just before Luke enters the tree, could be re-edited so as to allow Yoda more time to move from the ground to the fallen tree stump.

It's pretty rough, but it conveys the general idea.  My apologies for the screwed-up aspect ratio as well.

I would still cut out the scene of Yoda from 0:31 to 0:33 and show Yoda AFTER Luke says "There's something not right here".  That would definitely give Yoda the time to situate himself.  As it stands now, it still comes across as Yoda just teleported onto the log out of the bag.

It would be cool to see some trees fall and see leaves shaking when Yoda is lifting the ship with the force.  The same thing happend in AOTC when Dooku and Yoda were having their force battle.  Debris was falling from the ceiling.  It would be cool to see the branches shake and some trees fall.  It would really add to the scene.

Even if there were no visual modifications, just adding sound effects (ground rumbling; timbers straining, etc) just to emphasize the Force power that surrounds Yoda - even if it is concentrated on the X-wing would be pretty cool.

Though I would have to say "no" to HELLRAISER style energy hands reaching out and picking up the X-wing and putting on shore.  >:)

Well, the set look comes from the uniform lighting - granted, you don't want it to look like Wrigley Field at high noon, but the soft, gentle sunbeams streaming through the tree branches as the clouds move overhead... wait a minute, when did Bob Ross hijack my keyboard?  Even so, even having the slight presence of light (say moving through the tree branches in the background to give life to some of the background mattes, as well as have light changes over the foreground characters - nothing dramatic, but things like Yoda sitting on the log with the light getting slightly brighter and then darker [no direct beams of light] to account for light changes as it goes through openings in the clouds above).  Subtlety being the key.

Regardless, I still think that perspective (the X-wing looks a little too small, or the trees don't recede enough from background to foreground - maybe its that little stretch of horizontal land right below the X-wing that is screwing the persp. up) as well as a specific environment around the X-wing need to be worked on; for example, a path needs to be created behind the X-wing to account for it crashing into the swamp water.  If when Luke tries to raise it up, we see a bunch of trees behind the X-wing, that would mean Luke would have crashed into a bunch of trees as opposed to into the swamp.

Angel:
on one last note, I like your previous X-wing lifting shot a little better - the new one probably meshes better with what we saw before, but it still has a set look in how enclosed and specific the line of trees are.  The former shot, while the lighting could be toned down, is a LOT more opened up.

Apocalypse Now - Workprint (now available) (Released)

The three scenes that I think are the most interesting to see from the uncut 5 hr version is the extended helicopter flight (with Tomita music - is it just me or does it sound a lot like Tarna's theme [at 1:45] in HEAVY METAL?), the extended Scot Glenn footage (of which the best scene is on the Complete Dossier) and the original ending, where Martin Sheen stabs a spear through a child to kill a guard - really wished they used that ending for the REDUX version.

In regards to best quality video, short of finding something in a vault, I believe the SubCin version is probably as good as it gets (for the moment)...

Just a quick little video:

Thanks for that. <:)

Is there any way to test the streaking stars in the outside shot (to match what we see in the cockpit)?  If the spinning star field was taken out because of inconsistency (which I can understand), having the stars streak as they do inside the cockpit views would retain consistency as well as add that sense of speed that the spinning star fields gave... maybe.

In regards to the "spinning star field" thing, I wish Davnes or someone would post a comparison with the static Falcon shooting off from Tatooine in ANH:R with the original spinning star field as well as a third option showing the stars streaking outside around the Falcon the way they appear inside the Falcon cockpit.

That way we can visually see the three one after the other and see for ourselves which has the best visual impact.

I can understand getting rid of the spinning star field, as it is inconsistent with other hyperspace shots (be it inside or outside other ships), so maybe instead of reintegrating the spinning star field the stars can streak out to match what we see inside the Falcon's cockpit shot.  In fact, to maintain consistency, maybe the "star streaking" can be added in other shots as well, such as when the Rebel fleet jump into hyperspace in JEDI - speaking of which, is the blue hyperspace field going to make a reappearance in JEDI:R (when the fleet jumps out of hyperspace)?

I understand that this can also go in the EMPIRE AND JEDI WISHLIST thread as well.

Cardinal rules, not carnal rules!

Are these the cardinal rules you speak of?:

But to keep this somewhat on topic, I was wondering if there is the possibility to add lighting effects be it on Dagobah, Bespin, Endor, the Emperor's private palace and the like to subtract from the "set look (uniform lighting from background to foreground)".  Here are some examples:

Now see how easy it is to post witty retorts AND comments directly related to the thread title?

BTW, is there something wrong with the forum message creator?  I used to be able to resize pictures so you wouldn't have huge pics taking up half the page, but now every time I resize the pic and submit the message, the pic is resized BACK to its original size.  Hmmph...

Try burning your copy with IMGburn instead. Nero isn't the most reliable burner. Or it could be that your DVD writer is on its way out or bad media

As for the download then it sounds like you have a bad rar file. find out which one is corrupt and try re-downloading it

It could also be a dirty laser on the burner itself.  I will clean it and use ImgBurn and post what happens.
BTW, how can I tell which RAR file could be corrupted?

UPDATE (10-20, 3:05pm EST):
set view to "detail" and saw that 2 of the RAR files were incomplete.  Redownloaded and unzipped successfully.  The problem now seems to be ImgBurn:

Optimal L1 Data Zone Start LBA: None Found! (VTS_51)

This Image has not been mastered correctly for burning onto a double layer (OTP Track Path) disc.
None of the cells meet the "DVD-Video specification" criteria for a potential layer break position.

Do you want to continue anyway?

Does this mean that the Fanedit ISO does not include the fix posted in the previous posts?

Or the DS2 could have multiple dish lasers;  it would be interesting to see some mock-ups of various DS concepts.

I would still like to see a more sweeping beam as opposed to the typical one shot deal, ala something from the ROBOTECH anime.  It would also mean that the rebel fleet would have to have a LOT more ships - hmm, maybe there could be more than one rebel fleet hyperspace to Endor.

Funny thing happened to me the other day...

I tried to burn a copy for a friend using Nero, yet despite the fact that the dual layer DVD I was using as the source was working (as I had just watched it with him and a few others the day before), I made 2 dual layer coasters when Nero started to burn the second layer.  I have no idea why this would happen.

I gave my friend my copy (as he was leaving the next morning from Louisville to Oklahoma) and went online to get another one for myself.  I went to fanedit and got the ISO, but now it is bombing out on me when unzipping the file at around the 85% to 90% mark.

Here is the message:
"CRC failed in 'star.wars.revisited.DVD9.NTSC\STAR_WARS_REVISITED_NTSC_DVD_9.ISO'.  File is broken"

This means that the file fanedit has is broken and needs to be replaced.  Can anyone PM me a proper link to a properly working ISO rar file?

EDIT: I'm working on some other things with it; let me see if I can get it working... will update later tonight or tomorrow morning.

When ESB:R is released, the 720p version will be released as a DL-AVCHD that will play on PS3's and Blu-Ray players with a menu and maybe even some extra features

Please don't put extra features on the Blu Ray version!  I hate it when movie companies do that to push the new format further, keep all versions even.

I also need to find out how to watch DL-AVCHD on my laptop.  Would VLC player play that?

Keep in mind that there is a way to compress a 720p film to fit within a 4.7gb file size (there are a TON of these on tehp@r@dox) and look 720p (don't ask me how they do it, but they do it).  If that is the case, it would allow a 720p film to be put onto a DVD 9, with a good 2gb to 4 gb for any sort of menus and/or extras

On another note, when EMPIRE:R is finished, will it be possible to use the 720p version for the complete DL DVD release via an ISO file and ImgBurn, so that rather than the typical MKV or TS file (which would be movie only) menus and extras could be included in one complete package?

I know over at tehp@r@dox they have 720p files that only come out to 4.3gb in size and still look fantastic.  Again, they are movie only, but if one were to put it on a dual layer DVD, that would leave roughly 2 to 4 gigabytes for other things.

Just wondering...

In regards to the Boba Fett cartoon, to confirm what Ripplin says, it is a cell.  Ben Danger: I do think that is a good idea, though it would be time intensive.

I have the KCCP (?) version of the Holiday Special, which I believe is the best copy available; the youtube links aren't quite as good (there is still bleeding colors, but overall the image is pretty good.  I will try to post some screencaps if I can dig it up).

IF the cameo is to be done, maybe we could add suggestions as to where it could go:

If we were to be filmed, then naturally it would have to be a background character, such as one of the imperial pit officers, or one of the rebels somewhere in the control room, back somewhere in the hanger bay or even in the trench.  Not that it would be done, but if humor is a factor, the cameo could possibly be the person behind Admiral Ozzel who turns to look at the body, looks up to see Vader and quickly turns back to working at his post (I always found that a little humorous for some reason).

If a still image was to be used, then a face on an ID or even a brief face shot on one of the background snowspeeder pilots before or during getting shot down could be used.

Or better still, the cameo could be as a stormtrooper!  Of course, with the mask on it would be hard to see your face, but maybe a voice cameo could be worked with as well.

Well I for one think it would be nice to show some sort if damage, the snow speeders 1st fire on the AT-ATs command cockpit with no luck and then the neck and it explodes.. *woohoo!!"

We see that other pieces fall off as it thunders to the ground, so why not make some action in font as well? Show us how their useless lasers actually manage to penetrate that awesome armor of theirs. Would not be that much work anyways.

Lucky shot? or precession shooting?

One idea could be to make the lasers on the snowspeeders capable of firing ala the R-TYPE fighter from the video game; instead of just shooting out your typical laser bolts, maybe said pilot could hold onto the trigger (not that you would show that), building energy until he fired a more powerful blast.

In the scene in question, rather than just showing the snowspeeders fire into the back of the AT-AT neck, create an energy build-up sound effect and show a much brighter laser blast come out of the speeder and into the back of the AT-AT neck.   The explanation could be that the rest of the AT-AT armor is ray-shielded and deflects rather than absorbs laser fire, so even if a snowspeeder pilot tried the energy built-up blast on the rest of the AT-AT, most of the energy would deflect off.

It is a shame there won't be an army of AT-ATs; it would have been cool to see the ion cannon turned on a AT-AT battalion...
