Spot the model differences,

It looks like the main difference is the size of the cockpit pod and main body tube - the rest of the 2nd Falcon model looks fairly consistent other than shrinking the cockpit and the main body tube connected to it.

Not to mention, the docking tube should be connected to the port directly to the upper right of the cockpit (roughly 25 degrees above right of the cockpit on the 1st image), as opposed to connecting into one of the Falcon's engine vents.

On a connecting note, taking into account the size of the Falcon's cockpit (specifically in the 1st image) and that 4 people can fit into the cockpit pod, and the window on the side of the medical frigate is where Luke, Leia and co. look out at the Falcon later, shouldn't the frigate side window either be smaller or Luke and co. be much smaller when looking out, as it seems the size of people is inconsistent between the Falcon cockpit and the frigate side window.

Here are some images:

click for larger size

Are the windows on the front boom signifying floor levels? If so, that gives an idea as to how big people should be, as each level should roughly be around 10 to 15 feet in height (with the average person being 5'10" to 6'). If that is the case, the medical window should be at least 2 levels high, or anywhere from 20 to 30 feet tall!

Also, I was wondering if Savmagoett could use this image to add a Falcon model to see how it matches up size-wise.

Also also (for a possible JEDI:R idea), could the weapon-looking pod above the forward sensor unit possibly be an ion cannon?

Darth Solo's movie i seen last night opinion, be it an old or new filum.
Time

Okay, I'll add my bit to the broth here:

(1) ONG BAK and ONG BAK 2

(2) friend got them on blu-ray on sale over at Best Buy; hadn't seen ONG BAK in a while and wanted to see it again (to see if it came out better than I remembered) and heard all sorts of crazy things about OB2.

(3) ONG BAK is pretty decent! Story is pretty typical for martial arts movie (main dude - Tony Jaa - lives in poor town, whose sankara.. er, buddha head is stolen. He must go into the Big City, find former friend and get him to help find said stolen Buddha head, which leads him to a crime kingpin who has been stealing and selling Thailand artifacts. Needless to say, ass-kicking ensues). The first time I saw it, it seemed that EVERY big scene with Tony Jaa doing some amazing stunt work did the POLICE STORY triple-take.. yet for some reason, I didn't mind it this time.

ONG BAK 2 though.. HOLY CRAP! The english dub is quite silly, as the Monty Python folks would say (yet somehow it still fits), but the movie is either crazy fantastic or crazy stupid, all depending on how you take your martial arts films. I would say this is the best film I've seen when it comes to really showing off various martial arts in action, where the fighting is deadly serious, fast and BRUTAL! Jesus Christ on a tap-dancing pogo stick is this movie brutal (and not in a SAW way)... you have to watch it just for the things Tony Jaa does. Plotwise it is again typically simplistic, but again, if you are a fan of martial arts movies you pretty much expect this.

PS: bit of trivia: apparently, Tony Jaa fired the director halfway through filming and took over the director chair himself... and then about 3 weeks later, Tony disappears! About 3 weeks after that, some of the crew found him in some remote Buddhist temple deep in the Thai jungle and had to be dragged back to finish the movie.

(4) overall, at least for me, I would give both about a good 7-8/10.

I just thought about a couple of things:

(1) maybe the arm stump could be modified further to show a metal "bone" coming out of the stump, ie. a mix of the Terminator endo-skeleton mixed with some other components (as opposed to just generic wiring at the end)

(2) I always had a problem with Vader taking a knee(l) when Luke is whacking at him - it always felt like Vader wasn't beaten down by Luke so much as David Prowse was told to just get down and let Mark/Luke whack away. Maybe some editing magic could be used to take that brief scene out (Vader fights back, cut to Luke whacking away/ cut to Vader already down with Luke pummeling him/ then cuts arm off)

I say let's leave this to Ady to make update posts and not turn this into a Facebook page anymore than it already has... there is an EMPIRE/JEDI WISHLIST page for random thoughts as well.

It just feels as if Ady doesn't post any progress, people feel that there HAS to be some new posts regardless just to keep the thread moving.

Regardless, keep up the good spirits Ady... while it would be nice to see this within the next 6 to 12 months, I think with the current state of events as well as the releases of blu-rays, movies and the like we'll be busy enough until you're ready to go.

There we go: Anakin with PT-style robes. I gotta say, it really does enhance the shot even further.

I have to agree with Vaderios and company: Anakin is not going to look like Hayden for the simple reason that Vader died as an old(er) man, not as a young Hayden. Look at Yoda and Ben; they are not their younger selves, but as they were when they died - you know, Ben looks as he did when Vader/Anakin kinda killed him.

So why isn't Ben giving Anakin a big punch in the face ("And now we can rest in peace... which reminds me.. POW! That's for what you did to me on the Death Star, you bastard)?

That would be GREAT (I'm guessing Luke would still say his line afterwards?)! Would a sex scene (where you can't see the faces too well) be included somewhere in the beginning, just to further drive in the point?

My only disappointment is that the ending implies we won't ever get to see The Striking Back of the Empire...but I say it has to be done. I'm sure a solution could be found - death doesn't mean anything in a soap opera. Let's see it, TMBTM!

That's easy! Just throw out the explanation that they pieced Vader back together again, and that's why he's all burned up and half-mechanical (that maybe he wasn't burned up and all in WAR OF THE STARS, just wearing the armor the same way the regular troops wore the Stormtrooper outfits).

That would further explain why he would want to torture Han for prolonged periods of time in EMPIRE too... you know, considering what Han did to him and all...

You know, IF this ever gets done (by TMBTM or someone else), I wonder if it would be conceivable to replace "the line" with the supposed one used by David Prowse ("Obi Wan killed your father").. or for that matter, make HAN Darth's son.

Any ideas as to what it could be called?

Size of Falcon and Han: I agree this should be fixed as it is the one and only scene we see Han on top of the Falcon in comparison to the cockpit and the bulk of the ship. This is one scene and a subtile change the Revisited Editions can be so proud of in general!

* * *

One error I just spotted in (ANH and) ANH:R: When Tarkin forces Leia to "name the system" the pov changes to Leia's face and we see on the left of the shot Tarkin's chin moving as he is still pronouncin "system". So we see him saying "system" two times but can hear it once only.

I still agree for the reasons you mention.. NOT to mention, when Lando goes up the (extremely long) secondary roof hatch on the Falcon to get Luke after he falls from the Bespin antenna, is the opening way too tall, considering Han's size on top of the Falcon during the Hoth repair scene?

I can take it either way though... again, I understand Ady is doing all the work, though that change would be cool, even if it was just for that one shot.

Ady: speaking of the "Lando going up the roof hatch" scene, is that going to be modified in any way (taking out one of the door opening scenes, which would shorten the tunnel; skies and lighting changed to orange tint to match other outside shots of Bespin at dusk/dawn - which I think it is, since we see the sun rising along Bespin's edge when the Falcon reaches space)?

And adding the sky, although a nice addition, is proving too difficult for the first interior shot of Leia looking out the window because there isn't any good tracking points to get the sky to look natural in motion, so i will be leaving the couple of shots we see the ceiling window the way they are .

While it would be nice to see a cloud or two, maybe just changing the the color of the blue to something along the lines of the second pic by Vaderios would help make it look less like a set. That way you wouldn't have to worry about tracking issues (if the blue sky above was clear, you would just have to change the tint of the blue).

Also, a quick question: I know you said you weren't going to release a blu-ray version, but will the AVCHD have a decent bit rate? If so, about how big will it be (8gb, 10gb, etc)?

Hehe, some very nice ideas. Although I don't have Adywan's magic (or patience!) to do all of them (the "MAD MAX eyes" shot, would have been GREAT. I wish I had the idea!)

I just want to point that the Death Star added scenes, even if poorly directed, I agree, are not "fan" films, but part of the Star Wars video board game. Meaning it IS David Prowse under the suit. Maybe there is still too much contrast on the picture to really fit the Puggo grande style, indeed...

Well... it may be from the video game, but it still looks like a fan film or something from video tape; same thing with the TROOPS footage. Overall, it just stands out way too much. I don't think I would go as far as what Bingo is suggesting (like with the iguanas), as I can understand that editing itself can be a major task, much less adding in brand new FX work.

Regardless, I enjoyed it tremendously, and whether you do a version 2 (now or later) or just move on to a brand new edit, I will say I will be looking forward to your next work.

TMBTM's "The War of the Stars"; a Star Wars "grindhouse" cut (Released)
Time

Just watched it last night... I have to say TMBTM, you are quite talented. Very entertaining with some really nice surprises.

Here is a short review (here there be spoilers):

THINGS I LOVED:
(1) The opening with the Tomita music and the editing around it was fantastic! It would be nice to replace at least a bit more JW music with something more Tomita-esque or italian, but even then there are no complaints. Very well done.

(2) how you edited the Owen and Beru death scene. The song fit fairly well (though it would be interesting to find a similarly themed sad italian song, say from goblin or the like to see how it fits)

(3) Darth Vader's altered character... he really seems to enjoy being evil in this one (nice comeuppance in the end too)

(4) the Benny Hill-ish italian music when they're on the run in the Death Star. What was interesting was how the beat of the music matched the rhythm of the movement of the actors.

(5) the overall editing changes: Han and Greedo's exchange (Han: "I don't think they would appreciate another body" Greedo: "I think they wouldn't mind".. BLAM! just barely finishes his sentence!); Luke's practice on the Falcon (didn't see that one coming); the Vader "force" effects... almost too much to list!

THINGS I WOULD CHANGE/ADD/ALTER:
(1) I think the only thing I would slightly change in the beginning would be to make the title more 70's/80's italian, with the words looking like the old STAR WARS logo (maybe have 2 blue laser beams - to contrast with the red - come from the middle right and left, hit together and form WAR OF THE STARS like below, pulse with brightness and disappear).

(2) maybe replace Obi Wan's wail with the Sasquatch scream.

(3) probably the biggest (and only real) problem with the edit: I wold at least edit out all of the TROOPS and the fan film Death Star stuff. While you did grain it up, it still stood out as fan-made.

(4) add the blurring FX when Obi Wan throws the noise to distract the troopers... maybe even see how it looks when he's doing the mind control on the trooper on tatooine.

(5) add a bit more blood:
(A) - when the first guy in the overlooking security station gets lasered, maybe instead of blood you show the laser go through him and hit the wall behind him.
(B) - definitely could use a bit during the detention block rescue attack
(C) - maybe add some guts coming out of the upper part of Obi wan's cloak when Vader chops him in half.

(6) speaking of which, the italian chase music should have ended and changed to something more dramatic and/or sad during and right after Obi Wan gets killed in front of Luke.

(7) don't know how it could be done, but maybe slip the SCANNERS head explode into one of the cockpits during the last battle (would have to add a helmet and one of the orange suits over his regular suit and tie) and/or add one of the quick bug eye edits from MAD MAX (right before Toe Cutter gets hit by the 18 wheeler at the end) when Porkins or one of the other pilots die.

(8) maybe change up the laser sound effects with sounds from FLASH GORDON or any number of italian STAR WARS rip-offs.

(9) maybe add a few more subtitled lines from R2. There were times where he would beep away with no subtitles and then out of the blue there is a line or two. I would probably change the font to something more general as well as make it yellow and smaller per a previous suggestion.

(10) maybe during the scene where Leia says "and you call yourselves humans" add a slower (not completely slow motion, but at say 60% to 70% speed) shot of the Alderaan explosion on the viewscreen (taken from the previous scene).

Even so, this was an excellent view and very fun to watch. All of the suggestions above I consider minor and would add to the fun, but aren't necessary other than number 3 (if there was only one change you would make, I would take out the TROOPS and the other DS scene - those were the only things that really took me out of the movie). Otherwise, keep up the good work!

PS: LOVED the extra bits, especially the videos, not to mention the extra "bonk" sound effect when the stormtrooper hits his head on the door. >:)

ALIEN: REVISITED movie edit (* unfinished project *)
Time

While I have it in my head as far as what I want to do with a DUNE:REVISITED, that will be a long way off; I have to wrap my head around After Effects, Vegas and plenty of other programs and it would probably be a good thing to just do at least one or two straight edits (without extra FX other than sound and editing) just to get the hang of it.

I have no issue with the look of the computer that Kyle is looking at, but things like the eyes would definitely get a change (not just simply put "blue" over them, but give the whites of the eye a slight blue tint to look more natural, with the iris' have a slight glow and the opening have a "replicant" back glow ala BLADE RUNNER - that would primarily be for mid-range and close-up shots, whereas the far off shots would probably have the eyes changed but more along the lines of blue pinpoints to signify the backs of their retinas glowing blue)...

You know, I guess I may as well open a new thread just to list the stuff I'd like to do. I have no idea when it would get done, but I guess it wouldn't hurt just to get it out there.

Also wondering if clouds could be added to a lot of the Hoth battle - not so much just plain clouds, but a horizontal layer or two (from foreground to background) that could help give these scenes some depth.

Hell, just making the sky stand out from the rest of the background, as with the above shot the blues kind of blend together.

Also, would it be more exciting to show the AT-AT MUCH closer (as opposed to being in the distance, have the side nearly take up the entire middle ground past the second snowspeeder, as if they are skimming right beside it)?

720p would have to be an AVCHD as the DVD format will only do 480i. From my understanding, you will have to download it twice to get all the menus and possible bonus features.

So you can't create a menu screen for a TS file or AVCHD file? I understand a straight DVD format is 480i, but I'm just wondering if a 720p video file can be created with a menu (regardless of extras) and uploaded as an ISO file which can be burned straight to DVD.

Here's the process I believe he goes through, or at least what he did / is planning for Empire:

 1. Release in 720p AVCHD.
 2. Release on dual layer DVD.

So, yes, a 1080p just color corrected 97 SE version and a 720p edited enhanced Revisited version are the HD releases.

Hmm.. is it possible to create a dual-layer DVD-9 with menus, etc. but with a 720p video image (and create an ISO file for file transfer)? I'm just wondering if this will have to be downloaded twice (one for the full dvd with menus and another for the 720p image only).

Spaceballs 2010: The Re-Revisited Special Edition ON HOLD
Time

If we're talking REVISITED here and all, is there the possibility of having a more epic finale (among other things)? Here are some humble suggestions:

(1) IF this is going to be done, I think I like the idea of the Schwartz ring colors being changed to red and blue may as well be done, though Helmet can have the blue and Lonestar the red (maybe he's a democrat?). Also, while the music is serviceable, play with adding overly dramatic music, whether it's "Duel of the Fates" or not.

(2) make Spaceball 1 even bigger (maybe not replace it, but in scenes like when they tractor beam the princess' space cadillac, her ship is a tiny dot - hell, if there was a way to add a scene where the tractor beam operator is having a hard time locking on because they are so big and she is so small, that could add some laughs)

(3) maybe do a FISTFUL OF YEN and replace the outside shots of Spaceball city with shots of:
- coruscant
- the distance shot of Mos Eisley
- the really bad stock footage shot of Hong Kong as New York from FISTFUL OF YEN
- or take the Death Star from SW, grain it up a lot and add multiple sized versions in said Hong Kong stock footage shot. That way you'd have your parody shot ... but with balls.

(4) I really liked the Druidia Albert Witlock matte - if anything, add birds in the far distance like everyone else does to make things look massive. You know, LOTS of birds (with maybe a plane flying through them, catching on fire and starting to crash, which we don't see (the final crash, that is) because the "cut to the next scene" happens)

(5) I can see the space platform being changed, as that one is a little wonky. Don't know what you could replace it with, but one idea (if someone with the FX know-how helps) is take one of the many platform shots from the SW Prequels, stick a bad matted diner on top of it, add some spaceships from various other films that shouldn't be there and show Eagle 1 flying in (possibly use a clip from somewhere else in SPACEBALLS)

- in fact, if you show the original Enterprise, the real (Space:1999) Eagle 1, etc, would there be a way to rotoscope scenes from STAR TREK TOS, SPACE:1999 and essentially have Commander Koenig and others in the background? Hell, would it be funny to figure out ways of having scenes from said shows (with the backgrounds replaced with the diner) with dialogue that would fit with "waiting for your meal for a long time" and the like?

(6) Yogurt's planet could use some work. I like the idea of seeing thousands of Spaceball troopers combing the desert. I'll have to think about this one..

(7) I could see some altered or added FX with the "they've gone plaid!" scene - such as add some of that video and audio "wormhole effect" to the Spaceball 1 cast when they hit plaid to emphasize their fastness. Maybe even replace the first inside the cockpit view of Spaceball 1 going overhead with an outside one, so we can see Eagle 1 in the lower center of the screen - this would show the plaid trail as something much bigger and more impressive. Also, adding sound FX, close-up of speedometer dials going bug-nuts (from THE ROAD WARRIOR), etc. couldn't hurt - maybe even do a quick rif on 2001, where the plaid trail is two planes, with the occasional still shot of grimaces from Helmet and Sanders (before the part where he says "We're moving too fast! We need to stop!")

- on a side note, all shots inside and outside of spaceship cockpits when going faster than light, don't just show the stars streaking past ala STAR TREK; show them spinning per the original Falcon getaway shot - so from cockpit sideviews, the stars would be streaking and moving backwards, but they would be travelling at a 45% angle upwards or downwards depending on which side of the cockpit we were looking at and the direction (clockwise/ counter-clockwise) of the spin.

- hell, would it be conceivable to make the plaid trail spin too (make the trail more conical as opposed to boxey) or would that be too much ( I would still love to see a mock-up)? If done, it could start out conical (for the initial blast and the outside shot showing SB1 going overhead Eagle 1), then add in the STARGATE "stars coming from the outer edge" shot, then go to the 2001 altered shot (with the 2 plaid planes on top and bottom) with still shots of Dark Helmet and Col. Sanders grimaces, DH says " stop it!" per the line (with added ST:TMP wormhole streakiness) and the rest follows per the movie, with maybe a slightly sped up DH flying into the bulkhead scene... and smoke coming out of his collar when they pick him up.

(8) have druidia/ naboo/ every fighter from every science fiction fighter combat movie scene go out to meet Spaceball 1, so before/ during/ after it transforms, there is actual explosions, fat fighter pilots having problems and getting blown up, etc. to heighten the tension.

(9) replace the PLANET OF THE APES sequence with an altered one with Charlton Heston instead of the 2 Ape-men on horseback (edit the Mega Maid head overtop the Statue of Liberty head, but have the rest of the shot from the original POTA, with Chuck doing his "YOU MANIACS! YOU BLEW IT UP! GODDAMN YOU! GODDAMN YOU TO HELL!)

- also, I would cut this scene out from where it is and place it after the credits.

(10) maybe work in the "Jews from Space" fighters into the climactic battle against Mega Maid.

(11) when Dark Helmet hits the gaffer, add some quick grotesqueness or make him explode, followed with a comment from Moranis (taken from another movie and audio altered to sound like Helmet) saying something like "Jesus Christ! .... Please don't sue me!" It would also help to show what would happen if the Schwartz actually made contact (make it more threatening... you know, other than having the power to crush balls)

(11) I don't know... figure out a way to stick in a Daphne Zuniga nude scene (like when Lonestar looks into the window on the cell, cut to the scene in the FLY 2 where she's having sex with Eric Stolz)?

(12) the mirror under the hoverjeep that Dark Helmet is in? I would DEFINITELY keep it.. hell, if it can be done, I would figure out a way where the mirror falls down and you see that the jeep is being carried on top of the shoulders of a bunch of spaceball soldiers. Again, probably impossible to do, but could make for a great gag.

That or add the reflection of the camera crew's feet... remember, this is SPACE BALLS... the more gags the better.

(13) again, don't know how it could be done (other than some good editing and some blending FX), but when Lone Star and Barf arrive on Space Ball City and first go in (also, more beating up sound FX could be used when they get their soldier uniforms), you could add a shot of Lone Star essentially looking down the corridors:

- it starts off with a left-to-right pan of one of the familiar Space Ball corridors, then blends into the left-to-right pan of the Nostromo hallway, then blends into a left-to-right pan of one of the Death Star hallways.. this could go on as long as you wanted.. though keep in mind the FAMILY GUY rule of not to tell a joke: it's all in the timing; make a joke go on TOO long and it becomes annoying (until someone comments on it, then it becomes funny again).

That's all I can think of.. FOR NOW!

Nice mock-up Jaitea. I've tried adding some atmospherics to the outside of the entrance but everything looked fake. I'm trying to find some suitable footage to use but if that fails then i will just leave it as it is

You're probably already doing this, but rather than create any CGI I would try to find a clip from one of the various HD documentaries out there: find some suitable snowstorm footage, darken it to match the dark grey we see with Luke later and see how that comes out.

I still think the inside of the rebel hangar (specifically the area between the cave entrance and the actual hanger door) need to be darkened ...

I been thinking about the "I love you", "I know" reprise in ROTJ.

As much as it's great to be reminded of the classic scene in the other better film it currently kills tension and drama.

Leia is shot and for a few seconds it looks serious but then she throws a goof ball and comes out guns a blazing.

It would make more sense if the Imperials surrounded the bunker, Han and Leia have their ESB lines reversed and Leia goes ape with her gun only to get shot and injured.

An AT-ST turns up and it looks like curtains for our heroes and then the hatch opens and we see it's Chewie, giving Han a plan.

That way the tension builds up to a climax instead of wobbling back and forth as it currently does.

agreed. Kershner would have made Leia's injury a serious matter.

You know, I was thinking about this particular scene the other day, and it could have worked out SO much better with a little tweaking:

I would have had Han shot in the back, being that the Stormtroopers came from behind him (would also fit with previous line about not seeing the Falcon again - doesn't mean the Falcon blows up BTW). The troopers don't just mow them down because one of them recognizes the Princess, who has had a really nice reward on her head since ANH. Trooper points out the Princess, says something like "I've been looking forward for this for a long time"; Leia says, "Yes, I bet you have" and pulls Hans gun out of his holster (or just cocks the gun backwards and shoots it out of the holster while still in it), shoots both troopers ala FISTFULL OF DOLLARS (with the gun in the foreground frame and both troopers in the back), with Han, stunned, doing a BRIDE OF CHUCKIE style "I love you" (the waterbed scene) and Leia just smiles (doesn't have to say "I know" because her facial expression says it).

It would not just be a nice way to bring it full circle to the first cool scene we saw Han in, but it would show that her personality is tuned in with (and has changed because of) Han in that she's now thinking like him.
