STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Unlike the whole "red AT-AT windows and green AT-AT laser thing", the work on making the TIEs grey has already been done. It would be nice to at least have the option of a grey TIE version if it comes to it.

My biggest issue is mainly maintaining continuity with ANH. While I personally love the visual aspect better, I would rather have continuity continue than retcon ANH.

Even so, I've more than made my piece, so I will leave the "grey versus blue" debate and give the floor to someone else.

Ctlw83: that's the whole point of a debate. To simply say it's Ady's edit is just like saying it's Lucas' film.

Red AT-AT Window
AT-AT Laser Color
Vader Shuttle from Bespin
Wampa scenes
Tan-Tan ears

All of that stuff was pretty much settled a year or more ago. Other things (like the TIEs: blue or grey?) are still an issue and being talked about because Ady is still deciding on what he prefers and has changed it a few times:

From May, 2011:

Notice that the TIEs are not just blue but are the same exact color as the 2004 dvd ... thus the issue is still relevant.

Ady is doing a lot of the hard work (with help from they guys in California doing Hoth shots and others), but whether it is for selfish reasons or we just want this to be the best possible version... the best we can do is offer suggestions or make a case. It's up to Ady on whether or not he wants to implement them.

i would remove the name ENDOR altogether, and just have people refer to it as the "sanctuary moon", just as tatooine and hoth* are not refered to directly by name (*hoth system, not planet)

gas giant is a cool idea. I was wondering if the whole planet could be within some sort of nebulous cloud like NEW CAPRICA in BSG. absolutley hidden.

as pandora was mentioned, in ROTJ it could be good to have a flyover like the strip mining in Avatar, so the empire seems to be harvesting the planet for its materials.

Maybe not a fly-over, but something akin to the montage of the child slaves in TEMPLE OF DOOM (ie something you could see being done in a similar style as to the filmmaking in the 1980's).

This probably belongs in the JEDI IDEAS thread.

A couple of more ideas (one serious and one not-so-much):

(1) depending on what Ady (or whoever does another edit) does for JEDI:REVISITED, I know there was discussion that "Endor" is another planet similar to Yavin. Would that mean that we would/should see a gas giant behind the planet? Also, if "the forest moon of Endor (for lack of an actual name for the planetoid the action takes place on)" is the Empire's Area 51, would there be more construction going around both Death Stars (ie where they also build their super star destroyers or something along that line)?

(2) If Endor is a gas giant similar to Yavin, the forest moon would need a name. This would probably fit more towards the Worst Edit Ideas thread... but would you call it Pandora?

Please don't hit me.

Ady says the video is 100% complete, while the audio is still temp.

Wouldn't there still be a slight orange tint to the Falcon due to the ambient light reflected from the orange clouds?

Here is an example:

I remember ImpFighter... then he changed his mind again and said they would go back to grey.

Personally, I do not like the blue TIEs at all; the color makes them look more like models (imagine the air force or navy painting an F-15 that color). The TIE bombers and the newer ones in JEDI are one thing, but retconning ANH is something else. Forget about EU stuff... just visually I rather have continuity with ANH than go in reverse. Even if they are to remain blue or bluish, PLEASE don't change their color when you get around to ANH:720p.

One more thing about the AT-AT foot:

I understand that the ambient light from the surrounding snow may counter this, but would the foot cast a shadow over Luke (in his reaction shot) as well as directly over the snowspeeder before crushing it?

Regardless, keep up the fantastic work, Jaitea! Hopefully Ady will accept and include it into the edit. Even as your mock-up stands as it is, it works perfectly and I never noticed anything that would even indicate anything was manipulated.

In fact, when I first clicked on your link and watched it, I was wondering: "okay, so what was changed?" Then I went back to the forum and took a closer look at the original footfall shot and realized how much bigger the AT-AT foot was in your mock-up.

One last thing: I love your alternate sound effects as well. I can't say I hated the whining hydraulic sound FX, but it didn't seem right. In fact, shouldn't the AT-AT feet be making louder, bass-ier sounds similar or identical to the sounds they make when the rebels first see (and hear) the AT-ATs? In fact, do the AT-ATs make any noise after the rebel with the binoculars sees them for the first time?

Another quick suggestion:

I've noticed that there are quite a few shots where you can see clouds in the sky, yet in most if not all of these side shots of the snowspeeders there are no clouds in the sky.

Is there any possibility to add a sky background element to these shots?

And kudos to Jaitea. Great mock-up on the AT-AT foot! Is there any way to make it bigger, or is it one of those things where it becomes to big to manipulate? Also, would it be possible to have the foot sink a bit deeper into the snowspeeder (to indicate the weight of the AT-AT coming down on the ss)?

Understandable about the foot resizing. A couple of other suggestions: would it be possible to have the foot crush into the snowspeeder more? Also, during the shots of the snowspeeder flying around the AT-AT feet (where the camera tracks the snowspeeder), would it be possible to create a background behind the snowspeeder to reflect that the camera is spinning around the AT-AT (and we would see more than blank sky)?

But if someone was to prove that this thing can look 100% realistic with Cg then i'm willing to change my mind

I concur; this could be a good project for someone who is really good at CG manipulation.

I also like Angel's idea of adding snow impact FX around the AT-AT feet during movement.

If you're talking about the area to the right of Luke's head, I can't exactly tell. There is a white line, but I can't tell if that is supposed to be an opening.

Regardless, it still doesn't take into account the arc of Vader's swing hitting the vertical part of the guard rail, as well as the backswing hit on the wall.

But the cut Vader's sabre makes in the railing is the exact same size as the supposedly pre-cut railing right beside it... I suspect it just may be a continuity error on the FX guys (besides, why would the railing be cut and open like that? Are there any other shots to confirm that the railing has open spots along it?).

Here's something I noticed:

at the 0:38 to 0:40 mark of the XMAS CLIP, the glowing mark Vader leaves should be at a different angle. In the far off shot, Vader's blade is swinging to the left and slightly up (at a positive 5 to 10 degree arc). In the following close-up, the cut in the wall is going upwards to the left in a postive 45 degree angle:

Also, shouldn't the rail only have one cut in it, as opposed to two (since Vader only hits it once)?

arrow shows downward arc of Vader's sabre when he hits the rail once.

This is the actual impact with the Vane wall.

red area shows spot where Vader's sabre should have left a mark, and the arrow is pointing to a second cut in the rail when there should only be one. You know, maybe that entire T section on the rail (formed by the 2 small cut out areas) should be gone, with more of the orange heat glow, considering the angle of Vader's sabre hitting it, and that his sabre may have done more damage than make a slight cut in the rail.

Here is an example:

The cut in the railing is a bit bigger to account for the width of Vader's blade. The cut on the wall matches the angle of Vader's blade impact.

I also concur that the sabre seems a bit slow in retraction... maybe someone could make a Youtube clip with a montage of sabre retractions so we can determine the timing (or would that be too anal even for a STAR WARS fan... up to the challenge, ImpFighter?)?

Once again, you can right click to see them in their original, larger size.

BTW, nice addition of smoke on the cut railing...

A couple of questions:

(1) was Vader's sabre orange-red, or should it be more into the pure red spectrum? Vader's sabre seemed to have a bit more orange in the clip you provided.

(2) will there be any added lightsabre lighting after-effects, similar to Vader's sabre casting a slight red glow on Luke's eye in the carbonite chamber? There is a scene specifically when Vader says "You're beaten!" and points his sabre a few inches from Luke's face and there is no light cast-off despite the proximity.
