No I think it was supposed to be that Snoke wanted them to be brought together, and his plan was to have Kylo kill her so that his resolve would be stronger - and the threat he previously thought was Luke would also be gone of course.

The two characters being connected was still fascinating. The Ying/Yang idea was the most interesting part of the film, no more bloodlines only mystical cosmic energy. The idea of balance made sense for once.

Random thoughts while writing about the movie - I really love the bit where Rey is outside the Falcon putting her hand in the rain. No explanation needed. Also that Luke’s green saber is never seen after the flashback.

The Knights of Ren are sort of weird back story (like certain elements of SW before we had prequels) and or mystery box nonsense so who cares. Maybe they died, maybe they will be in IX. Whatever. The best part was they threw out so much “wooo what an enigma” stuff JJ is so fond of, and it makes TFA stronger because of it.

Yeah I don’t get it. SW is my favourite, and it’s full of humour. We don’t live in the 70s anymore so comedy asides today are executed differently, but they are a part of this series.

The real question for IX is what kind of bling will Supreme Leader Kylo be wearing

Yoda looked really weird in the medium shots but close up it was much better. Also he had some nice lines. But mixed bag I guess. Leia in space kinda worked for me to be honest, it was like y’know the Force.

It didn’t suck and it was better than The Force Awakens. Structural problems, certain comedy/fan servicey aspects, and pacing are an issue … but I appreciated that it’s a movie that does a few things that are unexpected, while actually making the force feel magical again and also including enough good character moments for everyone. Rose was kinda meh, score was kinda meh. But stuff with Luke and Leia was great. It was overall… good. Maybe not great, but above the average so I approve.

Call me crazy but I just don’t see a lot of wiggle room for interpretation any more, and it was only ever a tiny amount to begin with.

Quite right. 1977 could have just been The Phantom Menace under another name, and it would have just been known today as a weird over budgeted experiment.
