ROTS has one and only one good sequence: the one where everyone shuts up and all you hear is the music as Anakin and Padme get all weepy. That’s it. That’s all. The rest of ROTS takes the franchise out back, puts a bullet in its head, and leaves it for dead.
Even this part is a dud because they’re thinking back to the romance they had in AOTC…
Look, if you enjoy the prequels on some level, fine, but putting them on the same level as the OT (and calling ROTS a masterpiece, for heaven’s sake) is just flat-out crazy.
I didn’t mean that it’s an objectively phenomenal film, just that it is to me.
In what way though? It’s just as bad, if not worse than the other two in several places.
I had ROTJ for Gameboy too. It was tough if I recall, but I have a feeling I finished it back in the day, if not a distinct memory of what the ending was…
Oh sure. Die Another Day is a pretty apt comparison - lazy producers, complacent film makers, reliance on brand awareness instead of creativity. It’s embarrassing and boring but whatever. But as the thread title suggests - is it that bad? Yeah, it’s that bad.
It could go either way. Avatar fans are all gonna be 10 years older and have probably moved on, 3D hype is long dead… but at the same time it will feel like something new to some audiences by the time all the other blockbuster franchises outstay their welcome.
But on topic the “it’s definitely going to be 2020” feels like wishful thinking at this stage.

Ewoks are not a problem in themselves. Pacing and storytelling are the issue.
Unless they rewrite the entire script and then dub every actor to match it I don’t see how a few cuts here and there would really help. The fundamentals are broken, so just leaving a few more scenes on the cutting room floor isn’t exactly going to make them work.

I beat Super Star Wars today. The last part is a Mode 7 nightmare. The other two though, way too unforgiving.
Interestingly it’s appeared in various other places, like videogames from the acceptable Rogue Squardon titles (I forget if the third included it outside co-op) to the almost unplayable Rebel Assault. On film I think the nonsensical ending to ROTJ SE is the only example. They still producd a whole bunch of toys anyway of course.
Some of the bootlegs out there are amazing. I recommend the episodes of Ashens which feature them.
