General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

I dunno, I just always remember reading somewhere that they have no life support, no shields and no landing gear, no long distance power supply or hyperdrive engine; to make them totally dependant on the capital ships (and therefore the Empire itself) which was a creepy extra detail. The windows on the top hatch didn’t have any glass, just two exposed holes.

Snoke’s origin could have been included as one throwaway line. Which begs the question why does anyone want it, because he was just generic evil guy no.27. He killed someone or did something, who cares. The end of ROTJ was eroded over 3 decades so of course things have changed. I’m sure the EU immediately ruined the “happy ending” too with a hundred despotic Empire guys and Dark Jedi weirdos.

If you need to C*mplain about the CGI Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One... this is the place
Time

All of Serkis’s work Gollum, Kong, Caesar - is never 100% perfect (maybe the last Apes movie) but it’s perfectly believable in terms of characterisation. That’s why Gollum holds up over 10 years later, the CGI isn’t that good today, it’s aged. But the personality, and performance makes it work.

Rogue One on the other hand is poor, and it’s made poorer because the surrounding story doesn’t support the inclusion of these creepy death masks. I wanted to see Krennick and Galen, that relationship. Or Jyn and Saw, that relationship. These are things that matter inside the plot, but we don’t get them. Instead, all that money wasted on pointless visuals.

To me this set is fantastic. It wonderfully straddles that fine line of being ‘Star Warsy’ yet also giving us something we haven’t seen before. Great visuals.

A good chunk of Star Wars appeal to me is the sets and costumes. You don’t have to concentrate on what the main characters are doing or the plot, there is always some piece of set design or prop in the frame that will interest the eye.

Bit of Kagemusha, a bit of Flash Gordon. In the middle is Star Wars, so yes perfect.

Hopefully they can push it further in EpIX and have some Throne of Blood moments.

Yes, to those kids he’s Santa Clause. I’ll agree with you on that. I wish I could still believe in Santa Clause…

Yeah it’s a real shame that when kids grow up they no longer believe in kindness, charity, and good will to all. They burn their false idols and never teach their own children about mythology to instil a sense of right on them.

Oh wait they don’t, and that was point of the movie.

its fine that people don’t like this movie, but you cannot deny that a large section think they are on a crusade against anything that isn’t white powerful and male. It’s gotten a lot worse since a certain person was elected as now they think their beliefs are accepted. It just makes me sick what the fandom has become.

Yeah it’s kinda sad. If Rey was Ray there would be no discussion. The same people ignore the OT Alliance leadership to cry about it in TLJ. It’s the same with those lunatics who said TFA was eroding the values of same race marriage or something. Ew.

Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

There’s a difference between piloting a speeder and an aircraft. A speeder is more like a car, while an aircraft is like an aircraft. I don’t think it’s hard to imagine that Finn knew how to operate speeders (in fact he does so in one of the TFA deleted scenes).

Right, his training included hovercrafts and melee combat but not ships and turrets.
