Things that you would like to see in Star Wars that have not happened
Time

Yeah I’m not sure, you probably just need some sense of a crappy feudal system and a bunch of weird creatures to have that classic Tatooine atmosphere. Peasants, outlaws, warriors, bandits. However there’s also the WW2-in-Space idea that comes into play in the second half. You could build from either point to make a new story.

Star Wars is either A) the heroes journey or B) a space opera or C) a fantasy posing as sci-fi. Maybe these ideas have to be combined, maybe not. You can probably push outwards and make a Western or a crime saga without taking too much away. I don’t think AT-AT walkers, lightsabers or Imperial Stormtroopers are what makes it “feel” like Star Wars. These are just set dressing and hollow fan service.

What's Actually in the Movies? (for a GURPS RPG)
Time
  • Block blaster bolts? (Vader in V)

Maybe.

Deflected into the wall.

Did a stormtrooper die by a blast in the OT?

Leia alone kills a few per movie.

It doesn’t have a name in the movies though. The closest is Luke’s “A city in the clouds”.

Han says it. But is that the planet or the city?

When did Vader and Luke fly in the movies? They made great jumps but no flying.

Vader does his little floating jump down the stairs in the ESB dual I guess. It’s more like flying when they started using it as a Super Nintendo animation.

  1. Does the ‘A-Wing’ aka A-Fighter in Return of the Jedi ever jump to/from hyperspace on screen?

In the shot where the fleet jumps to hyperspace, five A-Wings are seen jumping. They are very blurry though.

If you think about it, it’s pretty weird that all the fighters go to lightspeed separately and not inside the capital ships.

It wouldn’t look as exciting or lend it the feel of a last desperate assault with everything they’ve got.

The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **

Perhaps among fans alone… whoever they are. Judging something through aggregators, ratings sites, video reviews all that stuff is inevitably a flawed idea. Because even in the modern digital age they’re used by a niche part of the audience to begin with. Time will tell when people are less emotional I guess, just things slowed down after TFA. Like everything else. I’m actually anxious after so much debate to see it on Blu-ray. Then again I just watched Justice League and it was a truly bad film, it’s probably all going to be fine.

Okay rather than making another quote pyramid I will just say that yes I believe TLJ fans to be the majority. Or at least those whole liked it plus the viewers who thought it was average at best. The RT score has clearly been meddled with. However even if you don’t consider this the case their own score system is broken. Look at the average user review score = 3/5. Which equates to 60% which equates to fresh by their own rules. Hmmmm.

Meanwhile a site like IMDB which has no media value or current fashionable brand recognition has a pretty reasonable score above 70% after all the fuss died down. And this is even with the 1/10 member reviews that are at the bottom of the page being upvoted. Meanwhile home video sales on the likes of Amazon are selling out quickly. Maybe it’s supply and demand you say. But maybe this “polarizing” movie is no such thing and there’s just a vocal minority. You decide.

Why did Obi-Wan lie about not knowing R2? I know that it’s because the prequels were written after the OT and it was a mistake, but what’s the canon justification? I’m just curious.

He actually never says he doesn’t know R2.

He also never gives any indication of knowing him, or C-3PO. I would be bothered by that if I took the prequels seriously.

I mean I don’t deny that, it’s just weird to frame the question as why does “Obi-wan lie about not knowing R2?” when it really should be “why doesn’t Obi-wan seemingly make any recognition of R2?”

The only way to make sense of it all, is to just assume that Obi-Wan doesn’t give sh!t about droids. or is senile.

Someone involved in the PT was senile.
