Best Explanation Of Mary Sue Issue
Time

I love that he goes on about Aliens so much (a movie I love) but then misses how laboured and on the nose the motherhood themes are after Ripley was just a straight edge pro in the original that was written without gender. If you wanted to be really silly about this it would be just as easy to suggest that like Terminator 2 James Cameron can’t help making his leads into simple child bearing stereotypes who must overcome very basic fears to become mothers/heroes.

Ranking the Star Wars films
Time

I rewatched about half of the films since the last time I posted in this thread and I think I’ve arrived at my definitive ranking until IX comes out.

  1. Star Wars
  2. The Empire Strikes Back
  3. The Last Jedi
  4. The Force Awakens
  5. Return of the Jedi
  6. Solo
  7. Rogue One
  8. The Phantom Menace
  9. Attack of the Clones
  10. Revenge of the Sith

The PT is still kind of a toss-up, but the middle part of the list seems to have stabilized for me.

That looks about right. I may have shifted the top 5 around a little but only 3-5.

Important question…

In ROTJ does Grey Leader die then re-appear during the finale?

But are we talking OT or SE version?

Now now…

Okay so I’m pretty hung over and we watched ROTJ and 2am in a haze of booze. This is my life. But! What I mean is that he dies when like when a bunch of them are killed, and then after some more throne room antics they cut back to the pilots heading for the superstructure - I’m sure he’s alive again for a second. Then Wedge says “good shot Red 2” but it’s a Y-Wing?

your thoughts: Did Disney kill star wars because it sounds like they did with the last jedi solo and resistance.

Something doesn’t sit right with the idea that the Force is limited by the physical vessel through which it is channeled, at least where the light side is concerned. It is my understanding from the OT that the limiting factor in any feat of the non-Dark Side Force is the belief of the acolyte, with training as a way to allow for greater belief. Luminous beings are we, after all, not this crude matter.

The Dark Side, on the other hand, may very well have some physical cost, as both of the Dark Side users in the OT were either horribly mutilated or clearly insane.

This is one reason why Luke’s death is so inexplicable to me.

Yes luminous beings, aka the soul or the spirit. The crude matter is what died. I admit that it feels more “correct” that the bad guys feel ill effects more than the good guys, but there are no real rules beyond what is shown. In theory the “quicker, faster” dark path is damaging in comparison to the more disciplined method. But there’s nothing to say that using the greatest powers when the body is already old shouldn’t have side effects. It’s all vague enough to work for me (well OT and ST anyway).
